You can look into paying for web hosting and set up a bulletin board type of website using their free software usually offered with web hosting. Some web hosting sites have a free plan. Most aren't expensive if your needs are simple. There is a learning curve on learning how to build a bulletin board, or even a Wordpress site, but I was able to put up a bulletin board after some experimentation over a few day's worth of testing. I'm sure there are other alternatives, but I don't feel this is the place to discuss all of the alternatives since this group is about running a group here on groups.io. I did actually check the Help Manual before posting! ;-)
I am an Owner. Not seeing where/how to check current usage, I read the following: Viewing your group¡¯s storage limit and current space usage
The resulting Billing page shows your plan, its storage limit, and the amount of storage space your group is currently using. (For a subgroup, the Usage page shows the subgroup¡¯s storage limit and current usage.)
Note:?You can also view your group¡¯s current space usage by entering this URL in your web browser (substituting your group¡¯s name for?groupname):
/g/groupname/usage
I have NO Menu item "Billing." Is this a #Bug or "What am I missing in the above instructions"? (P.S.: The URL to groupname/usage does work, but the amt of storage is not the issue right now.) Thx Ken |

How to Send Messages to more than one individual but not the whole group.
Hello! As an owner, I have the ability to message multiple individual members in one message under Admin/Members. As far as I can tell, a Member can only message their whole group or a single individual under Directory. I cannot find the answer in the owner or member manuals. Is there a way for a Member to send to multiple addressees in a single message through Groups.io? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!

Free group limitations
Somewhere in the pre-creation documentation should be a clear list of the limitations of the free groups. It should also be clearly listed in the group owner docs, and possibly elsewhere. I created a group that had the potential for 5000 members. I searched the group owner manual for 'limit' in order to find out if there was any limit to the number of members in a group. The only reference to limits that I found were pertaining to 'storage limits'. This was not an issue for the group that I had in mind. This caused considerable confusion, embarrassment and irritation. If we had known of this limitation, we would not have attempted to create the group on groups.io. As a not-for-profit group with no treasury, a subscription that could cost up to $200 per month is not an option. I recommend that this information be made clearly and plainly available to anyone considering the creation of a group. |

Re: Simple query
#BulkDelete
First, I wanted to remind you that the message archive does not count against your storage capacity in Groups.io.
It is difficult to bulk delete messages from the message archive. The Help tells you a bit about deleting topics and individual messages. /helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/managing-group-topics-and-messages/deleting-topics?single=true I have moved messages into topics and put a timed delete hashtag on them. But I haven't tried it for years of messages. Frances -- Help available from Groups.io help and GMF wiki. ? |
Simple query
#BulkDelete
I have looked in today¡¯s PDF version of Groups.io_Owners_Manual and cannot find the answer to my simple question.
I would like to delete all messages (and their attachments) for a multi-month period. For instance, my small group (~60 members) has just over 800 messages from 2021. Here¡¯s that selection choice: And the results from that ¡°Go" presents: Now that I¡¯ve ¡°Filtered¡± all messages between 2020-12-31 and 2022-01-01 (in this case, 805 messages), I¡¯d like to click ¡°Clear¡± or ¡°Delete¡± or ¡°Discard" Yet this doesn¡¯t seem to work. Can someone please point me to where in the Owners Manual I can find the instructions to accomplish this? Randy ¡ª d randall spydell | 39.1074¡ã N 108.5527¡ã W |
Re: Subgroup members that aren't main group members
> one of the subgroups wants to have new members that won't be joining the main The?subgroup needs to be their own group, in that case.? The older members who are in the main group can belong to both if that makes sense for them.? The new members would join only the new group. |
Re: Subgroup members that aren't main group members
You can¡¯t have subgroup members who are not part of the main group. If they are not a member already, they are automatically made a member of the main group when added to the subgroup.
If you have a small main group, you can make them the subgroup (and go no mail or special notices only for mail from the main group if they wish) and then add the new members to the main group. I don¡¯t know of any other way you can keep things confidential Frances -- Help available from Groups.io help ( /helpcenter ) and GMF wiki ( /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki ). |

I am trying to import messages from a Mailman2.1 list archive, but when I set things up with the fromto.txt file and run ioimport.pl, I get:
sharky4.deepsoft.com% perl ioimport.pl Content-Type: text/plain first address in fromto.txt must be unmoderated The e-mail address in question is set to "Override: not moderated".? What is going on? |
