Re: Google not permitting messages from our Group

What do you mean by "authenticate?" In my experience, dragging the msg from spam to inbox suffices, for my own personal Gmail account, not limited to .

Is that what you mean by "authentication"?

Sort of.? If you turn on the sponsorship setting, Settings > General - Allow Sponsorships, then they could click the green Sponsor This Group button on the home page.? There they'd enter the amount needed to cover the time period wanted.? (If you'd rather not have others contribute, you can turn sponsorship off afterward).? As the group comes up for renewal each year, the amount needed will be deducted from the balance.? Keep in mind that money in the sponsor account can only be used to pay for the group and there's no way to get it back if not used.

If you want to be able to access the money, you'd have to use Donations.? That has to be sent to someone as it comes in and they keep all the records.

One thing that can get you labeled a spammer is when the mail server sending the message doesn't match a DNS lookup of the domain in its From: address. I've found that digests are substantially more likely to get delivered than individual emails, and I suspect that's why.?I'm not suggesting this will completely eliminate the occasional delivery problem but it's highly unlikely that a 500-level error will be thrown.

Honestly, to this point we've done nothing to refute Google's assertion that these messages "look like spam!"?To provide more helpful advice it would be nice to know exactly what was in the messages that GMail didn't deliver.?

I think if the hopeful recipient puts the group address into Contacts, that should solve the problem.

I've received that result 6 times over the years, most recently ~18 months ago.? For obvious reasons, Google isn't too specific on the exact cause of the bounce.? Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to narrow it down much.? It could be that the member has been marking messages from Groups.io as spam or there may be something within the message that it doesn't like.? Groups.io tends to pay fairly close attention to this, especially after a site change, in case the change results in problems.? I'd try contacting the person off-group to see if they can offer any additional clues.

Google not permitting messages from our Group

Hello,
We've recently sent two messages to one of our members whose emails are delivered via his Google account and on each occasion we received this:
gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com: 550 5.7.1 [66.175.222.12 12] Our system has detected that this message is likely unsolicited mail. To reduce the amount of spam sent to Gmail, this message has been blocked. We're at a loss as to what to do so, any advice will be gratefully received.

Re: Needing help (member list on website)

Thank you to everyone that helped!!!!?

It was still changed in my preferences from the first time, but the group that I wanted it changed in, didn't change. What I realized is that I had to be on that group's page, and then go to my account and do it again. Then, it changed in that group, too!!!

Subgroup members must be members of the main group. However they can set their main group to No-Mail or to Special Notices only so they don't get the email.

You can also make subgroups more private?
- don't list them in the side menu in the main group
- don't let main group members read subgroup messages
both in Visibility, in Admin, Settings.

You can disallow or allow main group members from posting in the subgroup.

The Help says:
Once someone is a member of the parent group, they can subscribe directly to the subgroup (if permitted), they can be added directly to the subgroup, or they can ask to join the subgroup (if it is restricted).
Use Group Type And Moderation to adjust.

Do you mean prevent subgroup members from reading the main group messages?? No.? Since everyone must be a member of the main group to join a subgroup, they'll always have access to the main group information.? You'd have to "reverse" the groups so that main group members could be prevented from accessing the subgroup.

This is a setting within your Account. Click on your name at the top right hand corner of the web UI and then click on Account.?

Items per page is a setting within Display Preferences.

Don't forget to click on Update Preferences at the bottom of the page when you have made a new choice.

Chris?

In your Account > Preferences scroll down to "Items per page", select Infonite scroll and remember to then scroll down and save that setting.

Re: Some subscribers have issue with certain emails

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Jim,

I have some subscribers to [email protected] that are getting certain emails from the group that are not displaying correctly. Below my signature block is what they are getting and that is how it shows up on their screen.
They all have Optimum.com for an ISP.
My inclination is to doubt it because other members of the group are not having this issue, although Optimum claims it depends on the devices of the other members or their ISP providers."

If the common thread between the troubled members is they use Optimum then it has to be that ISP, no matter who the email sending server is, especially since other members who use a different ISP get theirs fine.? Maybe something in the way Optimum reads-in and deciphers those particular messages -which happen to be routed through Outlook.com servers- causes them to not display those properly, that would make sense to me.

To test if it was something on my computers or my system I sent directly to one of these subscribers that same email from each of my two computers. They emailed me back saying both came thru looking correctly on their screen.

To really test that you should send them the same message you posted to the group, not directly from your computer but online from groups.io, i.e. send them a private message from your group so this way the message will be sent to them through groups.io as if it was a "regular" group message.? After posting a normal message to the group, go to the member list and find one of those problem members and select Send Message, and paste in there the same exact message you just posted to the group.? Theoretically, if they have trouble viewing correctly the group message, they should also have the same problem with the direct group message, so let's see what happens.

I have my own domain name (hosted by GoDaddy) and my email is hosted by Outlook.com, so I could temporarily join your group and see if I also get the same problem, if not then it has to be Optimum.? Let me know and I'll send-in a subscribe request, or you can send me an invite or DirectAdd me if your group has that option.

Cheers,
Christos
