Yes they are also not listed on my Groups.io account. I'm not sure what the names were -- only that they began with an 'N.' They were groups I hadn't visited in a long time. I don't remember the names. Just that there were a couple of groups listed between the two Northeastern groups -- one of which begins with 'NE' and the other 'No' -- and they're not there now.? But if there is no notification when an owner deletes a group that would explain it.

I haven't joined any groups since I migrated to Groups.io from YG! -- other than Beta and GMF -- so the missing groups go back to the Yahoo era. In fact, there's several others that gradually died but I still belong to. Once in a great while I click on their message list but there's usually almost nothing to see.

For the future, I have taken a screen cap so I have a record of my groups.

I guess I would be considered one of those deadbeats.? I have "notifications only" configured for all the groups I belong to, and I do all my reading, replying, and composing replies on the groups.io website.? I basically treat groups.io like an online forum.? Looks like you can't easily track activity of members like me.? You might be able to just search the message archives for my name to find how active I was in the group.

I have not seen this mentioned yet, but if you log into your groups.io account, it should put you in /groups
That page shows a listing of all the groups you belong to. Is that page also missing the groups which are missing in the pull-down menu (with silhouettes of 3 busts )you mentioned?

If the groups are missing from both places then like others have mentioned, search the groups.io for the names of those groups and see what shows up.

Bruce the more I think about it, I have a hunch someone deleted something. Scrolling down between the two NE history groups -- is the Boston thread in the top one, the New Jersey thread in the lower one? -- was a regular part of my routine. Finding them listed on top of one another was a jolt. :(

I don't know of any way to see what it might have looked like at another time.? I don't think there's a message sent when a group is deleted by the owner.

A remote possibility is that Mark may have disabled some groups.? I'm not sure what would happen if you happened to be a member of one when that happened.? I do know that all members are removed in that situation.

Tommy -- There is no backup or "subscription history" from which to restore an account to its previous state. Those records reside within the group(s).

Although you might logically think the Member Notice of type "goodbye" would be sent, to my knowledge there is no such notification.

Have you tried to find the groups using the group search engine at?/search?? For what it's worth, a search for "northeastern history" turned up 51 hits...but I have insufficient information to focus it any further.

If these groups were public (and thus previously appeared in the engine) but now do not, then it could very well be that they've been deleted by the owner (especially if the same person owns both groups).

I only have one email address I use.

I have Groups.io bookmarked and the landing page is set to the message list for one of the groups I own. When I read the messages -- or do whatever I have to do -- I pull down the Your Groups menu and click on other groups. There are two groups that have gotten very busy the past month or two. They have similar names and similar subjects (Northeastern US history) and they're both very interesting groups. I have to try and remember which topic is in which group, check to make sure I'm clicking on the right one. My groups are listed alphabetically and these two groups have always been three or four rows apart. Until this morning.

It's muscle memory. I usually start with the busier of the two, the one on top. Then I click on Your Groups and have to scroll down a few rows to get to the other one. Until this morning. Something has changed. Is there any archive of Your Groups listing? If an owner decides to delete his group, are members notified by Groups.io?

In addition to what Duane said, you could change the Privacy settings in your subgroup so that it does not appear in the subgroups list:



If members become eligible to join your subgroup, you could just Direct Add or Invite them.

Each subgroup is treated separately and has most of the capabilities of a main group.? You could set each of the subgroups to Restricted Membership on the Spam Control panel.? Folks from the main group could still see them, but would have to be approved to join (or be invited).

To these people this group should seem like the only group in our system.?

While they can see (and are a member) of our top level group it's locked down - no messages from any members, etc.?

All my groups (in Your Groups) are listed correctly. Some appear to be sorted incorrectly such as Groups.io Updates is under U not Groups.io. But if you click through, you see that the posting email address is updates@

However you seem to be saying that you don't see some "all-but-dead groups" that you belong to. Possible that you unsubscribed or you are logged in with the wrong email address? Or removed because you or your email provider marked something as spam and you didn't reply to the email notification to resubscribe? Or the groups have been deleted by the owners??

I can't see in Help what happens to my messages in Gio if I leave a group or am unsubscribed. I can see my very old messages in Your Groups, Manage Subscriptions (bottom) then Topics , All. Reverse sort order, but these are all from groups that I am actually a member of.

You might see it in your email. I can search my Apple Mail to find Gio stuff just by using [ as my search term.

Anyone with more info or suggestions?

There were a couple of all-but-dead groups listed in between but I can't remember the names. Is it possible to get a previous listing, so I can see what's missing?

I should also mention that the group Title and Description do appear as Open Graph meta tags when rendered by the site. This affects what appears when you share the group's URL on social media but does not impact your SEO. Concentrate on actual content and you should be fine.

The situation above is completely overstated.

In fact, most engines do not even use meta tags anymore. Why? Because too many people abuse it. They would include things that had nothing to do with what the site was about, just to boost their score. Your proposal to stuff the header with keywords is a prime example of this.

As long as your group is public, search engines will be able to crawl it. Type "Group Managers Forum" into a Google search and this group comes up just fine. In fact, it's the first hit.

So the query is –has anybody been able to change or add tags to the HTML Source codes to the Head Page

Enterprise groups ($200/month) have a fully-customizable home page on its own domain. I would assume that includes the ability to add meta tags.

You would have to split those people into subgroups and post the events to the respective subgroup calendars. There is no other way to do it using existing tools.
