Re: Reply to links in email sent from Announcement-Only Group

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks, BruceI am yet to bulk invite members to this new group and I'm just testing it on myself and two other group members. Yes, I am aware of the manual Search but searching on "footer" gives a way to insert a .jpg but not customise the automatic content. The footer in GMF is very different to what I get as default (?) in my test message. As it was erased in my last message I've attached it here. I would just like to know where I can configure it, please. For example, we only want messages posted by email, although the view/reply online is a possible option. Your further advice would be appreciated. Bruce Fairhall On 13-Nov-20 2:28 am, Bruce Bowman

Reply to links in email sent from Announcement-Only Group
Why would there be Reply To Group, Reply To Sender, and New Topic links in the footer of messages from an announcement-only group? As expected, if I reply, a failure message is returned:
500: This is an announcement group and you do not have permission to post to it.
I couldn't find discussion of this in Beta or this forum and wonder if it would be worth a beta suggestion to remove these links for announcement-only groups. |
Have a new group with topics in place. Replies are all posting as completely new topics. How do I fix this?
SWVMA
I have never had an issue with this before but now all of a sudden one of my forums (that has set topics for members to reply to) is posting every single reply as a new topic. This won't work. I can't find any setting that says replies will stay under the topic they are replying to. Help...

== == Hello Marina (& All), Our group is also restricted and we require an Intro Bio of a few sentences for why any new member applicant is interested in our group. That goes a long way towards winnowing out the bogus applications. We have been toying with making our group private but are unsure if that is the best thing to do since it is not revokable. Likewise though, we have been receiving applications from the Netherlands (NL) and they do not reply to any request for an Intro Bio so we would delete them after a nudge email for the Intro. We noticed that when we deleted one NL applicant another application request is soon sent us in the next few days with a different name and email address but which also IDs from NL. They just sit there unapproved with these pending memberships each set to receive 'single emails'. We are guessing that they are attempting to harvest email addresses from our members and trying to do so in 'low-key' fashion, so if they're from NL we just delete them right away now. BTW, none of these NL applicants has ever sent us the requested Intro Bio. OK ¡ª HTH Paul M. CostaRicaLiving https: //groups.io/g/CostaRicaLiving == |

Re: Google groups versus groups.io?

I had a Yahoo Group for 8 years and started having problems with it. I then tried Google Groups but it lacked some of the things I needed. I then tried goup.io Free version and really liked it. After a year I switched from free to a pay plan and love it. It allows me to add new members quickly and easily. It really is about what you need in the way of services. But I suggest trying the Free version of groups.io and see how it goes. They make it easy to transfer your group information and data.

Now another question which I cannot find answered in the Manual, but the problem is knowing exactly what to search for!!Bruce -- If you display the manual as a full page (e.g.: /helpcenter/ownersmanual?single=true), you can use the search function of your browser to scan for content. For most browsers, control-F will bring up the search box. At the bottom of a Test message posted to our group before we add members, there is a small print Links footnote:If you pasted the footer here, it didn't come through. Groups.io strips any old, quoted footer before a message posts, replacing it with a new footer (and new links).? Is it labeled "Groups.io links"? If so, that is the standard footer for individual emails. However I would prefer to use something like the GMF has (below).?Again, whatever you provided did not come through.
