Re: re footer in emails
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI agree... Thunderbird is REALLY playing up now... none of my message filters are working, many emails won't open (especially the groups.io ones), the box which comes up lower right to tell me how many and what emails just arrived won't disappear.I'll see if I can find anything via a Google search. Legality of compiling a contact list from data that was collected for another purpose probably depends on privacy legislation in your country or state. Ethics - I reckon opt out systems that proliferate on the internet are the utimate in obnoxious rudeness. But inviting people to opt in who have previously expressed an interest in whatever it is, is a respectful practice. If anyone objects to you bothering them, don't argue. Apologise and let is pass.

Hello everyone
Do you know of a page or message thread that discusses the legal or ethical issues surrounding inviting all old members from a Yahoogroups group to a Groups.io group, without the specific consent of the Yahoogroups group owners? I'm an ordinary member of a number of Yahoogroups groups that are all related to various related products of a certain software company. The groups are not "owned" by the software company.??The "owners" of these groups don't really care about their groups anymore (they'd rather the group just die a slow death and hope that people will start using Facebook Groups).? However, some people do want to "migrate" to Groups.io.? We have archives of the old messages which we would very much like to make available to members (though that is perhaps a separate issue), and I'm sure we'd be able to lay our hands on a sizeable number of old members' e-mail addresses by combing through old messages.? Who knows, perhaps some of the groups' owners will come around in the end and supply us with the official lists of e-mail addresses. The traffic has gone down a bit over the years -- the past two years saw an average of only 50 messages per month, although they tend to come in bursts. (I actually started this process a year ago (and so the relevant Groups.io group already exists, but is largely empty), but the new announcement from Yahoogroups seems to have kicked a few more people into action.) Thanks Samuel |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks for your reply... I already have that selected in the Settings. The Reply to Sender is my particular problem. I have the same Thunderbird version number as mentioned in the Beta group query. I use the Thunderbird "Reply" function to reply to the group, but unless I know the email address of the sender or have it in my address book, I have to go to my group's membership list to get the address to be able to reply to the Sender. I'm glad it isn't just me... lol.. I'll have to put up with it till TB gets their act together... Thanks again. Win On 30/10/2020 4:33 pm, Rick Mann wrote:

Yes - couple of members in my group have experienced the same.? One said Hotmail didn't display the footers.? I've just tried 'force HTML for all emails' in the amdnin settings.? Maybe this will help fix the issue?

From:?"WBennett" <del13piero@...> To:[email protected] Subject:?[GMF] re footer in emails I read all my messages in Thunderbird and for some reason suddenly Reply to Sender and Reply to Group are not working... all I get is a plain blank white screen which just sits there. This happens with all messages in the folder where the mail is streamed, no matter how old the message. This is also the case in any of the groups.io groups that I am a member of.
If I read the emails on the webpage, I can reply from there, just not from my mail program. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks Win |

Re: Deleting Messages
Is the entire message archive now private? In other words, if you click on the link in the Google search results, is the page not found?

If so, you can request that Google remove specific search results, including the snippet that they show, using this tool (only one by one, unfortunately): If you don't have too many hits on the old messages, this should work. Bill On 29-Oct-20 7:34 PM, Beth Minahan via groups.io wrote:

It appears you cannot bulk delete messages.?Even though it's a small group, it's been around for years (it started on Yahoo), so there are thousands of messages. I'd be at my desk deleting for a week.
?
Sooo... I'm guessing my only choice is to delete the group?? And that will delete all the messages?
?
I'm looking for a work-around, SO, here's my main question:
If I...
1) create a new group, with the strictest privacy, and
2) migrate the members and messages from my current group to the new group, and
3) THEN delete the old group...
Will all those messages (now in the new group) be protected because the privacy settings were strict before they were uploaded?? So far, that's the only solution that comes to mind.?
