Hello everyone

Do you know of a page or message thread that discusses the legal or ethical issues surrounding inviting all old members from a Yahoogroups group to a Groups.io group, without the specific consent of the Yahoogroups group owners?

I'm an ordinary member of a number of Yahoogroups groups that are all related to various related products of a certain software company. The groups are not "owned" by the software company.??The "owners" of these groups don't really care about their groups anymore (they'd rather the group just die a slow death and hope that people will start using Facebook Groups).? However, some people do want to "migrate" to Groups.io.? We have archives of the old messages which we would very much like to make available to members (though that is perhaps a separate issue), and I'm sure we'd be able to lay our hands on a sizeable number of old members' e-mail addresses by combing through old messages.? Who knows, perhaps some of the groups' owners will come around in the end and supply us with the official lists of e-mail addresses.

The traffic has gone down a bit over the years -- the past two years saw an average of only 50 messages per month, although they tend to come in bursts.

(I actually started this process a year ago (and so the relevant Groups.io group already exists, but is largely empty), but the new announcement from Yahoogroups seems to have kicked a few more people into action.)

Thanks
Samuel
