In the last six months or more I have been using groups.io I would say its very smooth

I receive all posts with no problems

Have you checked your spam folder online? its been posted a few times that people have not received posts and the answer is usually their ISP blocking groups.io or groups.io posts being misdirected to spam

I posted the message and images from the website. No email involved.? I used the Add picture tool and the Add attachment tool. A member had originally sent the image to the group as images pasted onto a word doc and attached to his email. They opened properly in the pending message preview but not when they were actually posted. I offered to help. I copied the images and saved them as a single png, went to the website, replied to his message and added the images as pictures and attachments. Again, they displayed just fine in preview. It's a group where everyone is moderated including me. When I opened the pending message the image and attachment displayed properly. I approved the message and once it posted it no longer displayed. I got the tiny icon and the same XML error message. I tried it again, saving the image as a jpeg. Previewed fine. Sent to the group and displayed properly in pending. Once approved the image no longer displayed and again I got the error message. The attachment also opens and displays properly in review or as a pending message. Once posted it no longer will open. Instead, I get the XML error message.

In this morning's daily digest the images displayed normally but not the attachments. They return the XML error message: "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it." Why does the software call it an XML file? It's a jpeg. What does not having any "style information" mean?

What really has me baffled is, why the image displays properly in preview and pending but not when it is actually posted. What is happening in between? The group is one that began on Yahoo almost twenty years ago, we have had thousands of images posted. I myself must have posted hundreds. Not once has this ever happened before. Size doesn't seem to be the problem. The image is about 300 kb.

This is a history group and images are very important. I would really like to have some idea what might have gone wrong in order to be able to correct it if this happens again in the future.

Are you pasting it, originally or 2nd try, into the body or attaching the image?
Using what email application?
Try messaging it via the gio web interface? Insert (using the insert pic tool) or attaching the file.?

I'm assuming you mean that you do not see them in your Email inbox.

For what it is worth, not seeing one's own posts returned by email is a fairly common complaint, having nothing to do with being a group owner or mod.

I only see the reply. If no one replies, I will not know if my
messages was sent.
Have you checked the group's Messages section to see if the ones you don't see are posted there?

I have searched help and can't find an answer.
Try looking at the Email Delivery History tab of your Subscription page.

Normally that should show the most recent group posting in the Most Recent Successful Delivery panel. If you check there immediately after posting a message you may see your own message there (unless another member posts too soon after, and theirs is shown ).

If the Recent Bounces panel on that page lists one or more of your own posts then make note of the text in the Reason column. This means your email service has rejected delivery of those messages. This is where Tommy's prediction comes true: "I think the answer you're going to get is it is an issue with your email."

Let us know what you find out, maybe that will spark more ideas of how to resolve this.

You know how you can achieve this from Shal and Bruce.

However, you can have a different name for yourself in each group. Same email address, but your display name could be different.

Check out Display Name.

You can also SEND from a different email address - an email alias. This email account won't show to anyone, won't receive email but you can send from it. Handy if you are sending something from a work account, for example.

If he uses Gmail there's a setting that needs toggled on to receive
copies of your own messages, which are not displayed by default if
they're the same as what was sent.

Photos and attachments

 

I'm going to take the liberty of inserting and attaching an image of a 1917 newspaper page listing various railroad passenger train services at San Antonio Texas. They were originally sent to a message board I own as three images pasted to a word doc and though they were viewable in the email, they were not viewable when the message was posted. I then converted the images to a jpeg -- by making two screen caps and pasting them together -- but they still don't come through. Well, the attachment came through but too small to be readable.

Here's the image-



Which I am also attaching. Anyone know why they didn't come through?

Maureen -- This practice does seem very likely to soon overrun your GIO storage allocation.

Our group has created a YouTube channel for this purpose. We then upload the MP4 file to YouTube and send a link to the group.?



In your case ("a series of instructional classes"), you might consider creating a wiki page as an index, from which each class can be briefly described and accessed. A database table containing syllabi and links would also work.

I am the group owner, but do not see messages I post.? I only see the reply.? If no one replies, I will not know if my messages was sent.? I have searched help and can't find an answer.? Please advise.

My art group is planning a series of Zoom instructional classes that will be recorded and saved as mp4 files.? The Zoom facilitator plans to compress the files, but I am still doubtful that there is enough space to store them as files on our free Groups.io site.? Any recommendations??

They aren't. They're called "Pending members". A pending member is exactly that: a user who will become a member once approved by the moderators.

If you're asking why the list of them is found as a selection of the Members page (and I'm not sure you were) I think that's pretty sensible because of their status as nascent members.

The NC badge strongly indicates that the person in question isn?t a
member yet.
Addresses with NC, Pending, and Bouncing status are in a are quasi-membership state: group messages are not emailed to those addresses, but the address has a group subscription page where the user can set their email delivery and other options. And those statuses are not mutually exclusive.

An address may have NC status either before or after approval. I have seen NC addresses in my Members list: I've never approved a Pending Member with that status but in unrestricted groups they go straight to the Members list. Also, in a Basic group approving an NC applicant does not confirm the address - so in that case I think they would carry their NC badge into the Members list proper.

I think the same is true of Bouncing status, though I don't recall ever seeing a bouncing address in one of my group's Pending Membership lists.

And hopefully all this will be corrected one day....
I believe the "Joined" column head in the Pending Member list (that Marina referred to) has been changed to "Applied". But I'm not confident that any other corrections you may have in mind ("all this") will be corrected.

There's a lingering distinction between Applied and Joined as the column head in the Members list proper. That one is trickier because some members may have joined when the group was not restricted, and so may not have an "Applied" date at all. This would be true of the group's founder, and possibly other early members who joined before the group was changed to Restricted membership.

As Bruce said, you can: with a separate Groups.io account for each address.

There is no way to manage subscriptions under different email addresses within one Groups.io account, if that's what you were looking for. Each subscribed address is treated as a separate person.

Jan -- Yes, it is possible. Each email address has its own account.

I cannot find how to do this.
From the system help:??/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/joining-groups

If joining via email, just be sure to send the +subscribe message from the correct email address.

If joining via the web, be sure you are?logged in with?the email address that you want to be subscribed to that group before clicking the button on the group's home page. If you're already logged in with the "wrong" address (pull down the menu at upper right to see), you will have to log out first.
