If you put it in as a cc, likely the person is replying all.
Why not try BCC'ing your owner address?
Then the person couldn't reply to your BCC Groups.io address.

?I sent a message via my private email in reply to to a pending member and cc'd the owner address.?
Perhaps you are asking for more clarification before you approve them??

My guess now is that if I am sending a message via my private email to someone who is a pending member, then groups.io puts the offending address in the From line.? How they do it, I don't know since I am NOT sending the email through groups.io.
If you put your Groups.io address in your CC line, you are involving Groups.io.
Also if you are copying the person's email address, possibly you are picking up other content / coding. Edit it down so that just a normal email address is in the To field.
I am going to leave this thread alone for now before I wear everyone out.? But before I do, I wanted to clarify some things. Perhaps you can respond, as needed.

1)? When I tried in the past to bcc the owner address, I did not receive the message.? I will test that again.

2) Yes, I do need personal information from pending members because our listserv has a limited criterion for membership, and I need to determine if a pending member fits that and more.? That is why I send personal messages from my email client. I know I can do it through groups,io, but that is not my preference.? I keep boilerplate messages for all occasions.

3)? I no longer copy the address from the Pending Member list, though I do copy and paste it from the notice that I get for member approval from groups.io.? Perhaps that triggers the unwanted address? I don't know.

Thanks in advance to all for your replies.

Completely edit default messages for invites, direct add, etc

Hi again,
Trying to completely change the default message for new members: invite message, direct add message, welcome message. I see that I can customize and insert when I am sending, but that goes away. There also seems to be something in the admin; settings; member notices. But does this change the default? I think the welcome message for the GMF was different from the usual; how did you do that?

You can disable "no mail" but you can't disable others. However you can set a default subscription setting. Members can change it, but likely, many won't bother.

You can also send in your Welcome message just the email commands for the subscriptions you prefer for the group. If it is easy to do, that might nudge users in to the right direction.

I am surprised that you would delete both digests, though.

No, it's just that the CC: went through GIO where a direct email wouldn't.? If she had used CC:to her own address, it wouldn't have happened.? Anything that gets sent to GIO by any means may have that rewritten From: if you get a copy of it back.? It all depends on which email service you have.? The other members getting a message from GIO may not see the same thing unless it's something they sent.

Duane, thanks. What you've said is that the condition occurs when you try to send a direct message and post with a single email by including both addressees in the To: or cc: lines. Is that right?

Sometimes users can be just a little too clever. :-)

Did you by any chance click on a footer in a message that was forwarded to you or included in a reply?? I've seen that happen a couple of times over the years when I was playing.? I just log out, then back in with my own account.

Perhaps someone else has signed in on your computer? (Or maybe you are using someone else's computer?)

In any case, logout Mylokitty and log back in with your own email address.
