Re: #BouncingEmails #bouncingemails

Sharon,

I can't find a way to sort them in order by how long they have been
bouncing ...
Alas, no.

I think it would be a good suggestion for beta that the "Joined" column be replaced by a column showing when the address was most recently put on bouncing status (or maybe have both columns). It may have already been suggested, I don't recall at the moment.

or send a reactivate test message.
Put a check mark next to one or more members in the list and scroll to the bottom. In the Actions menu select "Send Bounce Probe".

You can also do that from a button at the bottom of an individual member's page.

#BouncingEmails #bouncingemails

I have over 500 bouncing emails. On Yahoo, I deleted these regularly so they didn't build up. My co-moderators have not been doing this.

I can't find a way to sort them in order by how long they have been bouncing or send a reactivate test message. Some are long-time subscribers that I don't think would want to be missing messages.

Am I missing something?

Re: Interpreting email delivery response

Larry,

Then I checked my own email to see what the normal code looked like
and it had the gsmtp code at the end and I received the email ok.

Response
2.0.0 OK [...] - gsmtp
Correct, that's a successful delivery.

But as Michael said that doesn't tell you what Gmail did with the message once they accepted the delivery. The sender is never told whether the message is delivered to the Inbox, to Spam, or whatever.

Re: Enterprise Group site unavailable after small change? #bug

Ahh, that's not our site (separate issue)?

We have our groups pointing to a sub domain as a part of the enterprise group. I guess it's possible that I somehow broke that connection. Who can help diagnose if that is working correctly??

Re: Wiki page

Susan,

I have a member ... that is trying to add information to a new wiki
page. He is unable to add anything and I have changed settings
to allow members to view and edit.
Each wiki page has a control that can prevent members from editing that particular page. See the "Only moderators can edit this page" checkbox, just above the Save Page button when you edit the page.

Re: Custom Invite Question

Cindy in DE

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thanks, yes that might help for them to see that notice about changing their delivery options.

And yes I do know that they can go in and change their signature but it is in hope that if it is taken out to begin with most will realize they weren't supposed to have it and wont go put it back in.? But that may not be a deterrence to who knows how many members.? Hoping policing it after becoming a member by taking it out to begin with will be less.? Whenever it is caught or reported afterward, it will be taken out again and then an email sent to the member to not put it back in.? And they will be put on a monitored list we create.

Thanks again?

I don't know if it would help, but when someone unsubscribes, they're offered the option to change delivery to Special Notices Only or Daily Summary.

The other is the signature part because everything is FREE and people arent allowed solicit their business in their signature.? Those younger members who are still working and may have their own businesses. They tend to put in their business information in the signature even though the are giving away free items.? So we want to head that off from the beginning.
And the display name is from an issue in YG that we just want filled out now here on IO.
Keep on mind that anyone can change their signature or Display Name for the group at any time.

Re: Custom Invite Question

Cindy in DE

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I'm sorry if I implied that I was asking for a change in the IO program or platform the way it is working at this point in time. I was merely asking if there was a way that we could change this link in an existing setting somewhere.? This is where everyone is asking help questions including me and I have been pointed to where to go to do things I've asked about before so I thought there may be an existing way i could do this now.? I can put in a change request but this is basically a 1 time thing for us at this point to get people (10,000) over from YG in 1 invite notice to everyone at one time.? And we need to do it now.? So I'm truely sorry for ruffling feathers with my question.

But adding to the discussion since it's out there, Id like to explain more about why we would want this.

?I'd in addition not like them to automatically show up as a member because of one of their default settings.? We use default settings like everyone else.? One we use is set to individual emails.? The majority of our members use this but others get upset about this filling up their inbox and either dont know how to change it and arent computer literate enough to even follow directions (giving them directions through direct email however long it takes so they know they can change other things), I know we can change it for them upon request.? But some dont know it can be changed to digest, summary or special notices? and other things like signature and username (we dont allow no email because we want them to get admin messages)? so some people get mad, putting it politely, or are just confused and just unsubscribe because of it.? If they arent automatically put in as a member they can see these choices and pick what they want to begin with.? We dont want people getting mad and just unsubscribing.? Without the automatic add then they can change our defaults where allowed.

We are a local freecycle group which people give away free things to other people in the community (we are not part of the freecycle.org organization).? A lot of our members are seniors clearing out usable things in their homes keeping things our of the landfill.? ( one of our goals) Those seniors are not computer literate so stepping them through the "application" process is helpful for them to understand a little.? All they basically know after that is offering and replying via email and all of that works perfectly well.? A little knowledge ahead of time and changing defaults if desired is given here helping out our many seniors.

The other is the signature part because everything is FREE and people arent allowed solicit their business in their signature.? Those younger members who are still working and may have their own businesses. They tend to put in their business information in the signature even though the are giving away free items.? So we want to head that off from the beginning.

And the display name is from an issue in YG that we just want filled out now here on IO.? It'spreference group preferance.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents in because people are now discussing reasons back and forth.

And now I know my answer is no.? So thank you I appreciate your response.

First of all, no one from GIO management is on this group.? If you want to make suggestions for changes or improvements, you need to post on the .

An invitation assumes that you've already checked people out and want them on your group, so acceptance allows them in.? If you need to do more pre-checking, you'll need to do it before sending an invitation.? You could send an email (from a personal/club/business address) with a link to join the group, then use the to ask specific questions when they apply.

To "fix" the From problem, you can temporarily change your Display Name to something like Owner, send the invitations, then change it back.? I know of several people that have done this.? It's inconvenient, but shouldn't be needed too often.

gsmtp is the technical name of part of Google's email service. All "gsmtp" alone tells you is that the email is hosted by Google, even if it doesn't end with @gmail.com.

You'll need to look at the rest of the details to see whether the message was accepted or not and continue diagnosing from there (e.g. misplaced, ended up in spam, deleted, not interested and ignoring).

Email 'going into their spam' is received, however the 'receiver' isn't actually finding it.

Everyone should think of Email as a package delivery. Usually, as expected, it goes to their front door (Inbox), however sometimes their 'mailman' leaves it at their side door (SPAM or Junk folder) or their rear door (Trash folder). If they don't check all of their doors, the package may or may not be taken by someone else, e.g. their email provider/client's default practice of automatically emptying their SPAM, Junk, and/or Trash folders.

If it is never received, then the questions are:
-was it misdirected (to the wrong address)
-was it refused (by their email provider/client)
-was it returned (marked SPAM and reported to the sending service, sometimes by email provider/client without showing it to the customer)
-did the email provider/client or delivery vehicle or service break down and/or lose it
These are usually 'bounces'.

Best email practices are:
-users should check their SPAM, Junk, and Trash folders every time they check their Inbox - at least once a day.
-never mark a Groups.io email as SPAM or Junk - instead report offending messages to their Group <[email protected]>
-always unmark and move any Groups.io email marked as SPAM or Junk to their Inbox - then read and/or delete it

Re: Can Mods hide a post? #howto

Paul M.,

NOTE: I checked on Beta just now and saw that the topic had been
discussed a while back but that no concrete decision was made and the
idea of hiding a post or topic was set to the side for the time being.
I remember that:

Wondering now, is it maybe time to reconsider this idea of being able
to hide/display a post/topic?
I still support the idea. I don't know where it fits in Groups.io's list of suggestions, but I see no reason not to reply to it now, especially if you can articulate a compelling use case for the feature.

Re: navigating page numbers

Win,

I¡¯m about to go to bed and will be closing down the computer. Is there
any way to jump to this same page when I start again tomorrow?
In a completely different vein than Bruce's, I've selected the option in my browsers (Firefox and Edge) to have them restore the tabs (windows) from my previous session when I start up again.

Of course neither of these address the underlying issue: that Groups.io lacks a "go to" capability for these paginated lists.

WRB,

Perhaps. But my purpose in this topic was to help you and other readers to understand and use Groups.io as it is. The (belated) screen shots were only a means to that end.

If you want to discuss possible improvements to site navigation perhaps you should start a new topic for that to make it clear to readers that it contains suggested site improvements rather than "how to" information. BTW, although suggestions discussed in GMF won't be seen by Groups.io, I've no problem with discussing them here to "hone" them before posting them in beta. As long as the topic is clearly identified as such.
