Re: mbox upload - dates are missing #mbox #ioimportpl

I had ~600 topics. I used an auto-mouse click program to delete them all :-).

Per your suggestion, I created a subgroup, but it had only the owner shared from the main group. I would have to re-add all 2500 members, and they would be notified of the subscription, unless there's a way around this or I'm misunderstanding something.

ioimport.pl now shows my four mbox files contain a total 10324 messages (deleted messages excluded)

1515 email addresses need to be changed, see needchange.txt
Of those, 735 are NotMember, 735 are NewUserModerated, 39 are Bouncing, 3 Bounced, and 3 Pending
Please tell me I don't need to resolve all of these to have a successful import!

Thanks,

Mike

As far as font size and style, Duane is right. It is dependent on your device. As you see from my test this evening, you can take out crazy fonts and colours with "normalize" in settings. ?However that may not be your question! I set my browser preferences for larger fonts.

Ken, I just tested it. There is a difference, both online in the group and in my email on my computer (MacBook) and on my iPhone.

With normalize turned on in settings, it looks fine, conventional. Without it turned on, it has the coloured and weird fonts that I selected for the test.
Same on my iPhone - without normalize, ?it has the red font in the groups page, and in my email.

It's been my observation that messages are normalized on the web UI, but the original text (size, style, etc) is sent out to members via the email bounce.? Is your experience different?

Re: Including images in the body of a message, and not just as an attachment. #images

The method (an image is either attached or inserted) seems to me to be dependant on the email application.? Outlook always attaches files (unless you? go thru permutations,) while iOS always inserts them.? ?How they are received also seems to be unique.? iOS always leaves them inline,? ?Whiile Outlook seems to consistently leave them attached -- or duplicates w/ an attachment if one is inline.

They can send an email to?Subscribe: main+subscribe@[GROUPNAME].groups.io
(Substitute your group name.)

I guess you know about direct add, invites, etc.

Links to options in the wiki.
See especially -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Quick-Start-for-Group-Formation

Is your group restricted? If it isn't, they can just click on Join This Group on your group homepage.?

If you were wondering about using the group-owner e-mail address, perhaps your group is restricted and you want to vet your applicants.
If yes, see?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Screening-New-Members-Using-the-Pending-Subscription-Notice

:-), the groups.io API has functions for managing list membership, removing

members (may need a premium group) [3].

Actually, all the items are on one long list.? It's what the member has set for Items Per Page that determines how many show up at once.? You'll need to find a way to explain to them how to change their setting.? It's part of their Account, so you can't do it for them.? (Infinite Scroll isn't a good choice for something like this because you'd have to scroll all the way to the bottom before you could search.)

First, check the footers of an email from your group to double-check your email address.
Second, do you have other owners or moderators with the ability to set moderator privileges and remove members.
See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Promotion%2C-Status-or-Permissions-Change-to-Moderator-or-Owner

Since you got the email saying that a message needs moderating, I assume that there isn't a problem with your status.
Of course, in the short term, if the message is okay, you can just reply to the message and it approves it.?

So you say that members sent email notices. Did they send an empty email from their "proper" email address to?
[email protected]

I suggest Full Digest rather than plain text because I think they will have trouble participating in discussion from the plain text digest.
You can see all email commands here -?/static/help#what-are-the-available-email-commands

Nothing required in the subject line or in the body of the email.?This should do it.
Just an empty email.

You can also double-check the Activity in Admin to see what has happened. You can also check the members' email delivery history from Admin, Members.

Just an FYI - this won't help your current subscribers, but you can create a default subscription setting for new members of your group. They can change it if they prefer.

Re: Duplication of photos in "Emailed Photos" folder

Bruce,

I figured it out that I could edit out the photos by going through the message edit option.? What deleted the entire message was was trying to directly delete the photo from the photo album.

If you click on the "Message" button under a photo in the Emailed Photos folder, it will bring up the underlying post. If you select Edit Message from the More menu, it will switch to edit mode. Tick the Delete checkboxes under any images you don't want, and save. Note that this will automatically send a notification to the OP that his post has been edited.

Or alternatively, just delete any undesirable images directly from the Emailed Photos folder. This approach will NOT send a notification.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Deleting%20attachments,%20files%20and%20photos

I don't normally reply from the website and I looked at the reply options there and I didn't see an easy way to stop the quoted text from being included unless it is by the show/hide quoted text.
By default, using the web interface, nothing is carried forward into your reply. You have to proactively click the "quote whole post" button (far left icon on the menu bar) to get it to do that.?"Show/hide quoted text" is for viewing purposes only and has no bearing on what ultimately appears in a reply.

If the default is to hide and you need to affirmatively click "show" to make this problem happen, my users must be doing this and getting them to stop should be the solution.?
More likely, many of your user's email clients "quote whole post" as a default. And yes, getting them to stop is more than a little problematical. My iPhone users tell me that it is simply not possible to avoid it, using Apple Mail. I am skeptical of that, but as long as they believe it, what can you do?

Bug in AOL app on iOS devices prevents email replies to Groups.io #ios

Becky Lavash

Today I learned of a bug in the AOL mail app for iOS devices. Perhaps others know of this but I didn't see it in the Wiki.

HTML doesn't render correctly in the address line so that all replies to the group fail. This applies to all types of replies; group, or private. We found we could, with some effort, delete the addressee and manually re-enter it and successfully send the message. We only knew the address for a group reply and weren't sure for a Private reply so we didn't test that.

I didn't see a means to report this bug to AOL but I suspect that they would know this.

When the app is installed on an iOS device, Safari automatically launches the app when the user tries to use the website version of AOL mail.?

Thanks, Duane. I see that I can do it for myself personally.

?

But as a moderator for a 900+ member group, I¡¯d like to set the number of items per page for the group as a whole. We have 80+ docs in our folder called Referrals, which are referral lists for various vendors that people in our neighborhood recommend (e.g., electricians, plumbers, gardeners, etc.) ¨C members can certainly scroll through the two pages of lists, but if they are all on one page people can find what they need a lot quicker by doing a ¡°control-f¡± search.

Best,

Terry
