Re: Approve and unmoderate senders not working

I had the same problem initially, not to mention the part time mods in my three groups who also got confused...

The problem is semantics me thinks.? The button is named "Approve & Unmoderate Member" and therein lies the problem because it must be interpreted differently by GIO than what I initially thought it meant.

To me and plenty of others I'm sure, "unmoderating" a member means setting them to always not-moderated regardless, they can post freely all they want, I vetted them and I'm done with moderating them, and I don't want the group's moderation setting to get in the way, hence I will set them to "P - Override: not-moderated", which does have an uncanny resemblance to "unmoderated".? So the first few times I used that button I was under the impression it did just that, auto-set them up as "P".? But that's not what the code does, it sets them up with the default group mod setting, which, if it is Unmoderated, then they in effect end up being the same (more or less) as the "P" setting.? But if the group is setup as moderated, then it doesn't work, and you still get the pending messages from them until you go to their settings and manually set it to "P".? In one case it's a single-step process, on the other a two-step process.

The same thing happens with the NuM setting, it also gets changed to the group default, I'm sure it's the same code block that does it..

So obviously the simplest fix could be to change the button caption to something else instead of "Unmoderate", to indicate to the mod that they are setting the default group? setting, not "P".

But, there is a value in having the group default as moderated (to ensure nothing falls through the cracks, especially when dealing with part-time mods who sometimes are not very computer-savvy) and after vetting folks, setting them to "P" and letting them loose, so a "Approve and set to "P" or whatever button would be nice.

Or maybe modify the code to be group-setting aware, and either set to default if group is unmoderated or "P" if moderated, then the current button caption would be less confusing/misleading, and it would work the same under both group moderated settings.

Cheers,
Christos

Re: Weird things hapening with GIO emails

The whole rr.com domain is the culprit from what I see. If you watch your
emails from the group, you will see the received and posted times differ
quite a bit. I've had mail show up over a day and a half behind. Other
sources seldom have more that minutes between the sent and received times.

If one is using Gmail from the Gmail page on line, there's a little ... symbol at the bottom. Click it adds the rest of the chain to which you're responding so that everyone can figure out what it's about!

Your Email Delivery History in this group shows three 500-level message rejections over the past three days, and multiple others over the past two years. And that's just this group. It only takes one "hard" (500-level) bounce to throw you into Bouncing status. See /static/help#bouncing

I hope we're not already seeing GIO deteriorate into what Yahoo
became.
That seems unlikely, but if you're unhappy, other options are available.

Before doing anything rash, I do suggest you try dumping roadrunner, and subscribe using another provider. You'll be a lot happier in the long run.

Finding help for you and your members #howtoguide

Many of you know this but I hope you will indulge me if I give everyone a reminder.

On GMF, there is a help wiki that is readable by all, including those without Groups.io accounts.?
There is information for members (how to join, how to login, how to change passwords, spam, etc.)
and help for group owners and moderators (setting up your group, dealing with bouncing, inviting members, screening new members, and more).

There is a table of contents as well as a very useful search box at the top of the screen on each page.?

Unless I have misunderstood you, the "breadcrumbs" were a good clue.

If you locate a photograph by means of a search then the album containing it will be revealed just above the display of the photo itself.

By way of example:

The above Photo was found by searching "my" group using L557; now look at the pale blue bar above it. At the right hand end is the photo "name" (L557_01.jpg). To the immediate left of that is the Album Name (Larkspur 3 (Indexed)) which is a link, even if it isn't in the above screen shot. Clicking that link will take you to the album containing that photo.

Does that help a bit?

A message within a topic of more than one message will have something like this below it:

Click the front/back arrows to page through each message in turn, or on the text itself to see all messages in that topic.

Messages display in order of arrival (or if moderated, order of approval). To the best of my knowledge, groups.io does not attempt to build a binary tree or linked list of messages within a topic, based on message in-reply-to header information. Thus it is necessary for each reply to provide some quoted text to provide this context.

I'm not convinced that Y!G ever did this, either. In any event, it sure doesn't now.

Can an option to print the group calendar by month or year or week?be added?
Not by asking here. Feature requests must be posted?.

2. The group calendar list view only shows one month. Can the list view options be added to show the whole year or the next 30 events or calendar entries?
The blue "Month" menu at upper right provides the only available calendar views.

Right now my group only has a few events per month and list view only shows one month at a time. Also, can a calendar list view print options be added??Thank you.
Subscribing your calendar to Outlook or Google calendar or some such will allow you to take advantage of the more versatile view/print options found on those platforms.

Terri, you can select the part you want which copies and pastes.?

On the group site, you can also use the little lasso beside Formats in the toolbar. It selects all. Edit after, if you wish.

Re: Searching for Photo Albums

Perhaps my need is not clear. I need to get to the album cover that displays the selected cover photo, finding it among the 660 or so albums in my Group. I can get to the contents of the album by searching on album title or an individual picture but not to the album cover to check its cover photo. If there is a way to do this, I have not yet found it.
