Images stored as attachments do not count against the 1GB limit for Free lists - Please confirm.
When I moved my first list over from YG back in January 2018, I understood that the 1GB limit on image storage included images stored as attachments.
When you go to photos, scroll to the bottom you see image storage: ? ?for example:
Using 5.3 GB for attachments storage
Using 298 MB for photos storage
-- The list owner told me that "The photos attached to emails/posts are not counted towards out "free" limit of 1 GB."? which explains how he can have 5.3 GB of images stored as attachments. I transferred over 17 lists from YG and was careful to keep image storage under 1GB, however it seems for a few list owners I was misleading them as they have also been told to post images as attachments to stay under the 1 GB.? I also was told to go to the 'Forum' for a complete explanation of why images in Attachments do not count against the 1GB limit.? So I need confirmation that I was wrong?and that the image totals posted at the bottom of the Photos section do not all count against the 1GB limit. ? Why even list Images in Attachments as a total at the bottom of the Photos section? FWIW I belong to several Basic (Free) lists that are over I GB if Attachment images are part of the total.? I seem to have been reducing image storage unnecessarily because of the attachment images total. ken clark www.shastasprings.com |
Re: Did all messages migrate from Yahoo?

I found a similar discrepancy: our Y! message count is 650 messages higher than the number of messages that transferred over to GIO (27,500+). Comparing the Y! and GIO message history tables, I saw discrepancies in the monthly message counts all across our group's 13-year history. I worried that hundreds of messages had simply not transferred.?
So I got a direct download from Y! (which I received a mere 24 hours after requesting it). Here's what I found: there are approximately 500 fewer messages in the Y! download than Yahoo's own online message count suggests should be there. Seeing this, I'm now more inclined to believe the discrepancies are due to errors and/or losses on Yahoo's end, rather than a GIO transfer failure.? Incidentally, before requesting the download, I'd tried migrating the messages to PG Offline but was unable to because of repeated Y! login failures -- a problem that apparently many PGO users are experiencing now. Re: Group Policy Announcement For New Members
You could make it a Guidelines member notice in Admin, Member Notices.
From the system help about the Guidelines notice: A special case: Group Guidelines
?
The Group Guidelines notice is a unique type that provides a convenient and versatile way to communicate and maintain the group¡¯s posting and conduct guidelines, if any. It has the following features and options:
?
- can be sent automatically on the first of each month as a message to the group, with an option to include members subscribed via Special Notices Only
- can be sent automatically to all new group members
- can be sent manually by a moderator to a group member at any time, in case the member needs a review of the guidelines
- appears under its own "Guidelines" tab at left on the group¡¯s pages, with an option to be visible either by group members only or by the public
Unlike the other notice types, a group can create at most one Group Guidelines notice. If created, a Guidelines tab will automatically appear on the group home page. The rest of the features are optional and are specified as follows when creating or editing the notice. See more -?/static/help#membernotices And details of special options for guidelines.?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Member-Notices Some groups, including GMF, send it out automatically on a monthly basis. Well, I need to correct myself on this last one.You can export all attachments using the "Export Group Data" button at the top of the Settings page. Groups.io provides no other bulk download function. Attachments are indeed downloaded in a group export, but they are embedded in the mbox file, and are not made available as individual files. Only after I visited a couple of my own group exports did that light in my brain flicker back on. So it appears the only way to get attachments is to visit each message containing one and download them individually. Sorry for the misinformation. Bruce |

I have a data download from Yahoo in October. I thought it included only my messages, but on further inspection it does look like the entire group¡¯s messages are saved (in mboxrd).

Hashtags
I have read the Hashtag FAQ: But I have a question: The hashtags we are creating are the name of a person, they are all one word, all standard ASCII characters, have no special characters, no numbers, no accents etc, and are not profane or curse words. Moving Attachments To Files
I have read the Attachments, Files and Photos FAQs: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Deleting%20attachments,%20files%20and%20photos /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Attachments%2C-Files-and-Photos%3A-Part-2 But have a number of questions about Attachments: 1. Is it possible for Attachments to be stripped from message and automatically placed in a directory in Files? 2. Is my understanding of these two attachment options correct: 2.1 Bounce = Bounce the whole message including attachments, if so what is the response to the sender? 2.2 Strip = Post the message but strip the attachments, if so what is the response to the sender? 3. Is there a way to bulk download multiple files sent as attachments? TIA |
Group Policy Announcement For New Members
Hello Fellow Owners/Moderators,
I just transferred my group from Yahoo! to groups.io and was wondering if any of you have a suggestion regarding the best way of informing new members of your group purpose/policies.? Previously, I included the link to a PDF in the welcome email to the new member and that file outlined the purpose of the group, what subjects were and were not acceptable for posting, general etiquette, etc.? It's a two-page file and am happy to share it with other owners/moderators, but given the many features of groups.io, I welcome any suggestions for a better way to handle this. Thanks Much, Rich? |
