Missing Photos Folder
I recently transferred the WSLCphoto from Yahoogroups to group.io.? I received an ?email from [email protected] indicating that the transfer was complete.? The stats of the transfer indicated that 667 photos were successfully transferred.? I and other list subscribers viewed the photos on the new groups.io list.? Several weeks later the entire Photos Section is missing from the list.? ? Can these be recovered from a backup? ? The purpose of the WSLCphoto list was for excess photos back many years when Yahoo was limiting storage space.? I paid the $220 for Premium and another $200 to expedite, but at the end I did not receive anything of value. ? Can you offer any suggestions regarding a course of action? ? Thanks, Kenton Larson ? Re: Unable to transfer old Yahoo group
Just a thought, since at least one person misunderstood the
requirement to have a prepaid annual premium group fee (they signed up for a monthly payment arrangement, which wont' work). That person thought paying for it monthly meant the group could be transferred. That isn't the case. You have to pay one year in advance for a premium group before your invitation will work. If you've already done that, then follow the advice from others given here. Donald On Fri, 29 Nov 2019 12:41:29 -0800, "Metasonix" <synth@...> wrote:

The result is that attachments image storage is several times greater than the E-mail photos albums. Video files can easily consume the "FREE" 1GBYou bet. If you want to keep people from doing that you will either have to strip/bounce attachments entirely, or moderate messages containing attachments so you can manually remove offending ones before they post. See Admin>Settings>Message Formatting>Attachments for options. Removing attachments is cumbersome as you have to delete the message first and then log back into View Attachments.Within View Attachments, click on the Size column header to find the biggest offenders. Each Subject name tabled here is an active link to the corresponding message. Having clicked that, select Edit Message from the More menu, and you can delete the attachment while still keeping the underlying message (i.e.: click its "Delete" checkbox before saving). When done, click the "Back" button on your browser a couple of times and you'll be back in View Attachments again. So yeah, that can be a struggle. It might be nice to just be able to just tick a few checkboxes and delete a selection of attachments from the original table display. But with power comes responsibility, and having such a feature would also make it easy to delete something that you really wanted to keep. The current way forces you to examine each attachment in its original context, and has some merit on that basis...at least from where I'm standing. Are their any plans to make management of attachments easier or manage upload of video files separate from photo images?I don't see anything to that effect on , unless it's covered under "Attachment Improvements." It might be more straightforward to filter attachments by size rather than by file type. Regards, Bruce |

Thanks for this
I ran into two more issues. The blocker was that groups.io blocked message import from the script after 40 messages and told me to try again later. About an hour later I still couldn't import any more messages from that email address (I reconfigured to use a different email address for import and processed another 40 messages before that too got blocked). The other issue was that your script said my mbox archive had "9022 messages (deleted messages excluded)" But Thunderbird finds the expected 15,000 messages in the mbox which matches the number in seen in PG Offline and in Yahoo itself. Also, imported messages show the date and time of import, not of the original message So yesterday, in the window while groups.io was open to accept new transfer requests, we booked a transfer. But in case they don't manage to get it done I've also requested a fresh mbox download from Yahoo! Thanks for your sharing your work. ? |

Re: Photos in Emails and photo quality
No, just for clarification, it is not necessarily about the effects of a low resolution shot being pushed to the max. It is about a good quality shot, our limit is 1024 x 1024, being push to the limit and looking fairly blurred out. Hitting download sharpens it markedly.? Sorry Bruce, I forgot this is a user-to-user group. I now know that I am interpreting everything?correctly. Thanks for your help! The Yahoo Groups invitation process has been finicky for years, and many people have experienced this problem, only to eventually overcome it. First, check your status as outlined in?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948. What does it say in the pink box at the top of the resulting page? If it says "Be sure to invite [email protected]"?or something to that effect, that would confirm that your invitation never left Yahoo. Some folks have had better luck after refreshing their Yahoo Group's invite page (Ctrl-F5), deleting browser cookies, logging out and back in, or trying another browser. Keep trying until the status changes to "We have received your invite and will accept it soon." Yes, I see the "outage" message at /yahootransfer. What the hell does that mean?It means exactly what it says...Yahoo Groups is acting up again and inhibiting the ability to get at group data. The same problems that everyone's having over there and causing people to leave is also causing difficulties for the groups.io transfer agent to do the exports.? Until Yahoo gets their act together there isn't much anyone here can do about it; unless you know of a good way to steal data from a server that has crashed. The best you can do is try to get past this invitation problem so you're ready to give the go-ahead when/if things come back online again. It is possible to download Yahoo group messages as a series of text files. How are they uploaded to groups.io as part of the message database?Although we can speculate, no one here knows this for certain. We are a peer-to-peer user group...no groups.io employees here. I already managed to download the FILES section of the Yahoo group and tried to upload it to groups.io -- it appears to start the process, but NEVER FINISHES. It just hangs.Groups.io is not designed for cloud storage, and large uploads have a tendency to time out. You might have better luck doing this folder by folder. Please respond to my email @Metasonix if possible. Thank you for your attention.GMF is a forum, and public responses are preferred, so that others may benefit.? Hope this helps, Bruce |

On my own groups I specify lock times to avoid this. This kind of thing can happen, but in theory, if a given subject line has 30 consecutive days of inactivity, a new topic should be opened regardless of the message's origin, and that message will not end up being rejected by the previously-existing lock. Answer: YES. (So Bruce was correct.) This behavior makes sense for events that repeat say weekly or monthly, but for a 4-day event, it really doesn't. Re: Calendar features questions
I hope that request does get implemented!
Reporting back on another part of my original questions. 2. If I set a reminder for the event, will it be sent before each day? (I ended up having to create an event that repeats for the 4 days. Re: Another YG outage
Thanks, Frances.? I tried off and on all morning to open messages on various groups with no luck, it is a good outage.? I got to everything, I just couldn't open anything.? I hope they haven't deleted archives.? and I hope they get it fixed.? Someone on yahoo gmf said he thought they were trying to institute the 10/28 changes and couldn't figure out how to do it, so they had it all messed up.
