Re: Calendar features questions

Sorry - got busy doing other stuff.

I tried putting a link to a PDF, and it works fine as a link, but it does not display inline.

Interesting (and annoying) about the changing links to photos in albums. Good to know, though.

Thanks for all the answers!

The "invalid address" error seems uniquely associated with inviting the transfer agent from the wrong provider (groups.io instead of Y!G). See screenshot below, and more to follow.

We can only hope he finds a few more windows of opportunity to help people get moved over here.? It's a good place to read for updates and the latest information on yahoo's meltdown.
is indeed a good place to check for updates of this nature.

As for whether Y!G ever gets running again to the point that transfers again become possible, I'm not sure the good folks at Yahoo care to put any resources into that. Wondering on my end if PGOffline even works anymore.

A few site FAQs:

Re: Photos in Files Section

John,

Bruce's comment still applies. The distinction between a 'photo' and 'file' is very slight (actually non-existent as far as the server's concerned). The file extension is used simply to decide if this is an image - in which case use the 'album' style of presentation - or not. Simplistically, there are relatively few image formats (JPG, PNG etc) in use and people often like to browse the picture, not the filename.? Whereas there are just too many 'other' file formats out there to even try to display and it probably doesn't make much sense to either. It's really no more sophisticated than that. So a file format like PDF or DOCX etc. which can contain images is still just a file.?

Allowing image files (JPG, PNG etc.) in the Files section is just a way of saying you don't want the thumbnail images shown, just the filename. Clicking on the filename then downloads the image, just as a regular file would.

Regards

Derek

No, the restriction is for image file extensions - jpg, bmp, gif, etc.

It will show the time for previous days by hovering over the date.? That will let you nail down when it got to the group.

Re: Photos in Files Section

One Yahoo Group successfully transferred to groups.io has many
images in albums in the Photos section but also has some jpg
image files stored in the Files section; these are *only* jpg images
with no text.
Many groups have these, and it's a legacy from Yahoo at a time when they limited the size of images in Photos. The way around that limitation was to upload them to Files instead.

As I recall it was requested that a way be developed to move these images into Photos rather than download and reupload so as to not lose ownership. The alternative is to do all that manually and then reassign them to the correct owner if they are still with the group.

Re: Photos in Files Section

Good query.

I have the samre concern, but it's wider than just .jpg images. Some of my groups have commercial or military instruction manuals which include line drawings and schematics.
In fact, the very purpose of some groups is the sharing of very rare, old technical documents. Some, but not all, are .pdfs

Does the image restriction also apply to images in .pdfs ?

If the (blank) image is clicked, the file downloads to my Downloads folder. Thus, allowing jpg images in Files seems inappropriate if the image won't display anyway; in most cases you don't know what the image is.

I believe jpg images should be restricted to the Photos section and that the option to Allow Photos in Files should be disabled. But, I wonder if textual files with embedded photos would also be inhibited by disabling this Allow Photos in Files option. In that case, I wonder if the image would be displayed or if even the text file would be displayed. What file formats would display in the Files section?

Does anyone know? Comments, please.

It only shows the day, not the time, so it won't show a 2 hour delay.
It was not moderated. Like I said, moderation is definitely NOT the issue. Definitely, absolutely not. Like I said, I bumped up the message to groups.io support.
Consider this thread closed. I won't monitor this anymore.?

(Although I haven't tested out all display tweaks) It appears that the (well-disguised coded)?crumbs update when I close the site tab (Chrome) or if I change the GUI view (e.g., date newest to oldest, or to feed, or..., etc.) and still remain open. The view appears to be universal (same across all groups.)
It doesn't seem to update when first entering the site.

Maybe Micro has some cookie controls set for this or all visited sites?

Thanks Bruce and Frances. Yes, I checked all settings and admin activities - nothing relevant there. I am ABSOLUTELY certain, this has nothing to do with moderation settings. It happened in several groups, for two different emails (I'm webmaster of one association the group.io group is for, administrator of the other), none of them are moderated, no flags are set, no hashtags were applied.

I sent a message to support and we'll see what they say.

Re: yG Privacy Dashboard download #yahooprivacydashboard #ioimportpl

ISIS,

To help with the download speed, DO NOT use WiFi.? WiFi cuts the speed by almost half.? Instead run the correct cable from the WiFi router to your computer.? Now you can download at much higher speeds.

Re: #Delayed messages - again #delayed

And I assume that you have looked at Activity in Admin in Groups.io?

Larry -- As you have already mentioned, that can be done via a group setting.

But, I wonder if textual files with embedded photos would also be inhibited by disabling this Allow Photos in Files option.
No.

Inhibition is based entirely on the file extension. If you rename a *.JPG file to *.DOC you can still upload it to Files no matter what the setting is.

What file formats would display in the Files section?
None. All you get is a link to the file.

Derek, that's why I posted here first, from the header analysis I wasn't sure where the problem was, and thus, which support to contact -- I'll contact groups.io support and see what they say.

Thanks,

Re: #Delayed messages - again #delayed

This looks like moderation. Simple as that. Carola, are you a moderator or owner on that group?
