Frances says it is disabled. It evidently is not disabled. Do you know Frances? Hey Frances - where do you get this evidence??? Are you attempting to delete someone else's message? If so you are missing the point and causing unhelpful expectations. I have just spent 3 hours hunting down your assertions. Duh. Stan,
But I see a variety, including the initial welcome message toThat's intriguing. I understand what Bruce is saying about the Bounce history being absent activity from other groups, but I'm not sure that applies to the Most Recent Successful Delivery box. And if it does, then those intervening messages in other groups should make the content go blank, not refer to an older post in this group. The Message Selection option (Membership tab, Advanced Preferences) comes to mind, but my understanding is that Special Notices are supposed to bypass that. Also, I suspect very few members have even noticed that, much less used it. Could they have been on No Email part of the time? Gerald,
Maybe I am missing something, but I don't understand why there aren'tFor Y!Group refugees that's par for the course. On the other hand, Y!G does put fields in the message header to reveal approval and edit. I suggested in beta that Groups.io do likewise but the idea wasn't liked by owners who were afraid it would cause members to single out particular mods for their ire. It wasn't acted on. On the other hand, I very much appreciate the moderator's notes onI got into that habit long ago, at the example of a more senior mod. And I generally approve of transparency. So, "you're welcome". Re: Stuck at waiting for first email
Nancy,
Getting nervous as I have a subgroup to come over as well.If neither the subgroup nor the Yahoo Group it is to come from are involved in other transfers at the moment then it should be safe to run this transfer concurrently with the one you're running now, even if that's to the primary group of the subgroup. Thanks Shal! Yes, definitely weird at first having the sub-group interface look so much like the main group interface. It has finally clicked in my brain.

Re: Calendar query for recurring events
Rob,
My group has a foodbank collection last saturday in each month. IsAlas, no. If you go to a last Saturday of a month that has five and create the event there you can select: Repeats: Monthly Repeats Every: 1 months Repeat by day of the week Then the Repeat summary says "Monthly on the Fifth Saturday", and it means exactly that. You could also set up a repeating event for the Fourth Saturday, but in months that have a fifth you'd have to manually delete the instance on the fourth. Hah, that did help, thank you! I conceptually already understood the relationships between the main group and subgroups, and how membership in the main group is required first, but the interface was really confusing to me... It has now clicked in my mind. For example, in a subgroup, even though it's called "Direct Add" it's quite unlike the "Direct Add" in the main group... it instead shows a picklist of people in the main group who I can choose from to add to the subgroup. And where it says "Directly add members of the parent group to this subgroup" I can interpret that to mean "Here are the people in your main group to pick from to add to this sub-group, 'cause they have to be in your main group first -- if you want to add someone else, add them to the main group first and they'll pop up here, or go to admin/subgroups and manage their sub-group memberships there, and everyone will be happy!" not "The system will automatically add members of the parent group to this subgroup". Granted, my version is way too wordy. :)

These are people who are in your main group and the system might be saying, hey, want to add these? I am not sure if there is an option to clear the direct add box since I have never managed a Premium group. Edith,
2. Is there a way to clear all these emails out of the "Direct Add" soNo. From the subgroup's point of view those are the only people eligible to be added. and I can directly add people myself?Yes. But you do it on the Direct Add page of the Primary group (because they must also be members of the primary group). On that page there are checkboxes for which subgroup(s) you want them to also be added to. It seems a bid weird at first, but it is easy once you realize what's going on. If it doesn't automatically add people in the parent group to the subgroup, why does it say "Directly add members of the parent group to this subgroup" at the top?Because that's all you CAN do. Let me see if I can walk you through it. -- You did a transfer from a Yahoo group into subgroup A. During that transfer, every individual added to subgroup A was also added to the parent group. -- Then you did a transfer from another Yahoo group into subgroup B. The same thing happened to the parent group as above. -- So now the parent group contains all members that were in EITHER of the two originating groups. Follow me so far? As for the pick-list, there is nothing mysterious about it. When you open up Direct Add in a subgroup, you are presented with a list of people in the parent group that you can add. This will be a long list, for reasons already stated. To add someone to the subgroup, you tick the checkbox next to his name and click the "Add Members" button. You cannot add anyone to the subgroup who isn't on this list. If you want to do that, you have to add them to the parent group first. At that point they will appear on the list and you can add them to the subgroup, too. If your parent group and its subgroups do not follow this kind of natural relationship, jumping through these hoops can be very burdensome. That's why we recommend people carefully read the "why use a subgroup" wiki entry I linked previously before they do their transfers, lest they end up having problems with member management. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Bruce, I think you are misunderstanding my issue, sorry if I wasn't clear -- I super appreciate your taking the time to answer, so I hope you'll take another look. To try to clarify: I'm in the subgroup (let's call it subgroup A). The people listed in subgroup A in the "Direct Add" section are already in the Main group (I spot-checked) and in subgroup B (also spot-checked) -- and I don't want to add them to subgroup A -- they mysteriously appeared in the "Direct Add" section of subgroup A during the transfer.
If it doesn't automatically add people in the parent group to the subgroup, why does it say "Directly add members of the parent group to this subgroup" at the top? |
