That would be a definite Maybe.? Mark has said that quoting in digests is a headache.? The whole idea of digests is to minimize the size of the message sent.? The easiest way to avoid the problem is to change your delivery to Individual Messages.? At least that way you'd get the entire message.

Re: text in post not showing on digest

I just noticed this type of thing today. We're having a discussion about something, and another poster responds to me partially by quoting my message, but showing his suggested edits within the quoted part - and the quoted part is completely missing from the digest. So, a digest person would have to logon to the site to see the full message. This is really really bad! A discussion back and forth should not be truncated.

I remember seeing something here about placing text under the quoted text so all would be included (well, I seem to remember that), but enforcing that is dicey. One of the features of a good GUI is not to expect the user to remember how to do things, it should just flow from the options on screen, etc. OK, enough preaching ;-) So, does "at least for now" mean there might be some consideration to making sure quoted text stays put in digests?

Yes you do; according to your 2nd photo the Members tab clearly shows 3 pending. OTOH your Pending tab shows no messages awaiting action, as per the 1st photo. As has already been pointed out Pending refers to messages; Members refers to, er members, either awaiting entry or "substantive".

Please provide a screenshot of what you get when you click on the Members tab.

On mobile, you have to click open the More hamburger menu to get to Admin functions, and from your second screenshot it appears you have already done so at least once.

I don¡¯t show any pending subscribers (Although their are 3).
Did you click open the Members tab (again, in the second screenshot)? Anyone actually in pending status should show up there.

They are instead listed as members even though they weren¡¯t approved, and their not listed as a member.
I'm struggling to make sense of the above sentence. Are you trying to get people approved, or is the displayed number the only problem?

Thanks for informing me, Ken. Not to start a war, but that makes me (Android persuasion) uncomfortable.

Please, make no responses to this post.

PGO can get everything as a non-mod, non-owner except for the un-munged email addresses of members.

Users can choose not to share their real email addresses and even as an owner, you won¡¯t get them.

Early YG users (those grandfathered in from GeoCities (?))? didn't join with an email address and all you'll see is a big random number.

If you were the last Owner, you should not be able to do that. Go back to the group and double-check that you're actually unsubscribed.

How can I regain my owner status in this group?
Resubscribe to the group, then have one of your co-owners promote you back to Owner. This is done by pulling down the Role menu in your member record and making the appropriate selection.

As far as groups.io is concerned, those two email addresses are two different people. If you had changed the email address before he subscribed to the "test" group using the other one, you probably wouldn't have gotten the error message.

? How to I as Owner or Moderator change a members e-mail address in the migrated group?
If the email address the subscriber is changing to is not already in use, you can update it as you attempted to do. If it's already registered, you cannot.?

Going forward, how do members edit their own information?
That depends on what "information" they need to edit. Account information can be found at?/account. Subscription information can be found at?/g/GROUPNAME/editsub.

In this case, you will probably want to have the subscriber himself merge the two accounts. Instructions can be found as the last entry of this wiki page:?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Profile-and-Email-Address-and-Merging-Accounts

Also, as I understand it, this is a community help site, how do I request help from Groups.io employees working support?
You can send an email to [email protected]. However, GMF should continue to be your first stop for help. It makes no sense to bother support with an issue that can be readily answered by an experienced peer.

Bruce

Hello Again,

My group migrated from Yahoo fine. I have a member whose e-mail address has changed. I can go to the Admin, Members section of the group. New UI instructions?

Hi All.......
Is there anywhere, an already prepared set of instructions as to how a new user can navigate the Groups.io User Interface? ?This would be helpful for Owners to send out to members transferring over from Yahoo.

Tks,

How to Import Links to database

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

OK, I have had a bit of success,? by luck.

Briefly
  • I made a Links database and filled some rows manually,
  • Imported a .csv which gave me empty rows. ??
  • Then I edited the table properties and deleted the unused columns. (vague memory of having done that before)
  • Imported the .csv which gave me some Rows with data. But the fields contents are incorrect.

I'll try to give a full account when it is wright/Write/rite/right

ok,

Re: Inhibit users from using "Delete message" #messages #issue #howto

Hi,

In addition to the EU Law (GDPR), with its famous "right to be forgotten", as well as the right to privacy, California is introducing a new privacy law (CCPA) as of 1 January 2020. It seems clear that CCPA does not apply to non-profits, which is probably the majority of the forums on Groups.io :-

The EU law has a wider application in terms of type of business, but only to personal information. I know that Groups.io was made GDPR compliant, according to statements made by the owner of Groups.io (after consulting lawyers) and you can read the relevant policy here :- /static/compliance

The good news is that businesses that are already GDPR compliant will have no issues with the new California Law (CCPA), according to this article :-

Given all of this legal activity in both the EU and the US, I would recommend that groups follow the spirit of the law (allow members to delete their own content, as well as their account), rather than invite disputes that can only be resolved by the courts, even if you think that you would win in court.

By the way, I am not a lawyer. Please consult a lawyer if you are not sure of your need to comply with any of these new laws - GDPR since May 2018 and CCPA in January 2020.

Regards

John Russell

[Mod Note: We will allow limited discussion of legal issues as they directly relate to groups.io features. If this escalates the topic will be locked.]

How to Import Links to database

Subject changed

How do I Import a list of links from y!g to a Database ?

Done it before!
I have previously built/imported data for Links databases on three groups transfered from y!g to
Gio. OK. [ normally I will build a spreadsheet, Save As a .csv and Import ]

I can import a .csv into columns more or less successfully, but links are not clickable . ok .
I can build a database of clickable URLs manually, row by row. ok

I cannot now figure out how to Import data to fill a Links database.
Has something changed?
or have I lost the plot?

Tony

An idea: just above the green "+Add Row" button there are blue buttons

I'm not sure how much of the GDPR angle is speculation, but either way: you're right in that GDPR may not require that users have the right to remove content personally. They do, however, have the right to request that Groups.io stop distributing it, and when they request it, the request must be met, unless there is a legally valid reason to deny the request.? So... if users can always request this, and if their requests always have to be met, then I think it's just common sense (from an administrative perspective) to give users that ability directly.? It reduces paperwork.
