Re: invite.ics file format errors
#calendar
Toby,
I created an event and am unable to import it into Google Calendar. The validator found no errors on GMF's (admittedly sparse) calendar, nor on that of my test group: So that's broke...Or you and I aren't doing the same thing. I took the URL provided by the Subscribe to Calendar button on each group's calendar and pasted that into the URL field in the validator. Then clicked the Validate button. If you and I are talking about and doing the same thing with the calendar subscription URLs of our respective calendars then perhaps you've found a bug or glitch that should be reported to support. Re: groups.io funky tonight?
We are having problems with the files section. I created a folder
called test to see what might be the problem. I can't get past the first page in the files section so I can't test the test folder. I did create one called AAA-test and also added a file to it. I can access the file. Our other owner tried creating a new folder and uploaded a file but she gets an error when trying to see inside that folder. Why it won't let you go past page one in the files section I have no idea. I'm hoping it resolves itself but sent a note to support and Mark. Re: groups.io funky tonight?
J,
Funky is too mild a word for it. For the past couple of hours, when I click on "Followed Topics"Links to open messages in Pending are also not working, plus the links to open Albums in Photos all seem to open the same Album. I've cc'd my reply in that beta@ thread to support. Hopefully there's not too much damage being done to the underlying data structures and content data. Shal, if you're reading, you sent me some refresh instructions offlistThey're pretty generic, except the hot keys used to invoke the browser refresh items. The same functions ought to be available through menus as well. But I don't think browsers are part of the problem tonight. Shal |

groups.io funky tonight?
J_Catlady
For the past couple of hours, when I click on "Followed Topics" nothing happens, even though I have one followed topic. It just sits in All Topics. Other links have also failed to work tonight. This is happening in both safari and firefox, so it doesn't seem to be my browser (like it was a few days ago when I couldn't get into my groups at all).?Last week, when this happened, I refreshed safari and was able to get in (I was not having the problem in firefox). I am loathe to do that again. Shal, if you're reading, you sent me some refresh instructions offlist last time, but they seem to be for a PC rather than a Mac. Do you have any suggestions for a Mac? Is anyone else having problems with the system tonight??
Thanks. -- J |
Groups.io site updates
#changelog
Hi all,
Last two week's change log: Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change. * We now remove footers from replies before they are marked as pending messages. I hadn't noticed they were still there in pending, but just as well to have them pre-trimmed. * Tracking login link email deliveries/deferrals/bounces. I haven't thought of a circumstance where this will make a difference in diagnosing a member's problem contacting the group, but even so I'm generally in favor of all mail traffic to a member being tracked for delivery versus bounces. Comments about these others are also welcome: INTERNAL: Wrote a tool to manage the various shards and replicas in the search cluster. CHANGE: Visited links in the wiki are now displayed as a different color. UPDATE: Public Facebook Page integrations are now working again. INTERNAL: Continued work on the new streaming pipeline from the database into the search cluster. Mostly completed; some parts are running in production now. Hopefully (finally!) complete and working next week. NEW: New API endpoint /bulkremove. Also API calls can take a group_name parameter instead of a group_id parameter. SYSADMIN: Migrated main web server to new hardware. Please call out any you find significant. Shal |

Re: Splitting topic
#split
Here's what I reported to support on June 9 (request 3360):
"I've noticed a glitch when trying to split a message to a new thread. I normally sort with newest first and it won't allow me to split the top (last) post. It looks like it would allow me to split the last on a page (Split is in the More menu), but that would be the first in the topic which wouldn't make any sense. I suspect that the first item on the page can't be split instead of the first item in the topic. It was probably set up that way before reverse sort was available." I haven't received a reply on it yet, so it's down the priority list someplace. Duane |
Re: Splitting topic
#split
J_Catlady
Shal,
I just tested it. The whole thread gets a new title, no system crash. :) Definitely a bug, since (a) in this sort order it doesn't let you split off the last message (as Jim noted), and (b) this "feature" (renaming via "splitting" the first message) is not available in the other sort order.? -- J |
Re: Splitting topic
#split
Jim,
It seems like you shoul dbe able to split the latest message fromDing! Ding! Ding! I think you've identified a bug! You can't split the first message of a topic (which is what your second screen shot looks like). Make sure you're using the More menu under the second or later message - the message you want to become the first in the new topic. Here's the bug: Make sure you have _the date sort ascending_. You should see "Previous Topic" and "Next Topic" buttons below that last message. If you've got the date sort reversed in your current view the Split menu item isn't where it should be (and is where it shouldn't). I'm a little afraid to learn what happens if, in that circumstance, you _do_ split the first message of the topic. Maybe the whole thread gets a new topic, maybe the server crashes for following a null pointer. This one I cc to support. Shal |
Re: Splitting topic
#split
Jim,
But I can't even find the Split Topic feature anymore, just Moderate,Perhaps the Wiki will help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Split-Threads /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-To-Merge-Threads I realize that this will only change the archives, and email usersTrue. And when members reply to that message (any message that had already been sent with the old subject but is now in the new topic) their reply may not thread to the new topic. That's something that's been discussed in beta@ but I don't know if Mark has done any work lately to address this problem. So if the new topic is active you may have to lather, rinse, repeat a few times until people are only replying to messages sent in the new topic. Shal |

Splitting topic

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIs splitting a topic still a G.io feature?
I remember a huge discussion about it, but now someone has created a
totally differnet thread by replying to an unrelated thread becauset hey did
not know how to start a new topic.? I want to change the subject to better
reflect what's being discussed.
I realize that this will only change the archives, and email users will still
have the wrong subject.? But I can't even find the Split Topic feature
anymore, just Moderate, Lock, Merge, or Edit Subject.

What are the capabilities of a Facebook integration?
I run two (formerly Yahoo) groups which happen to have counterparts on Facebook. I am a member of those Facebook groups but, unlike the Yahoo and now Groups.io groups, the Facebook groups were not created by me nor am I a moderator in them. I do know the people who created and run those Facebook groups, some are members of my groups, and we're not at all competitive - the groups are alumni groups and we're all about reaching as many of our classmates as possible to organize formal reunions, mini get-togethers, and other events. And of course to share stories and photos and whatnot. |
