What are the capabilities of a Facebook integration?

I run two (formerly Yahoo) groups which happen to have counterparts on Facebook. I am a member of those Facebook groups but, unlike the Yahoo and now Groups.io groups, the Facebook groups were not created by me nor am I a moderator in them. I do know the people who created and run those Facebook groups, some are members of my groups, and we're not at all competitive - the groups are alumni groups and we're all about reaching as many of our classmates as possible to organize formal reunions, mini get-togethers, and other events. And of course to share stories and photos and whatnot.

So one question is, what would an integration to the respective Facebook group do for each of the Groups,io groups? And for the Facebook groups? My understanding is that the primary function of an integration is to bring in postings from the other service and post them as messages in the Group. Is there any more to it than that? How about message posting in the other direction?

A complication is that one of the Facebook groups is "Public" and the other is "Secret"; something I checked after reading a recent - apparently an integration with the secret Facebook group will not be possible at this time (or for the foreseeable future) due to authentication requirements. I found this description of the which does a good job of explaining the privacy differences between the Facebook group types. One thing that puzzles me about the beta@ conversation is the use of the word "page" as if synonymous with "group". I thought that in Facebook "pages" and "groups" were very different things. But maybe they aren't so different any more? Or maybe that discussion is really about "pages" and integration isn't possible with FB "groups"?

Anyway, I'd be grateful for some education before I make any suggestions or ill-informed comments in beta@. ;-)
