How to remove reply to sender from footer
We need to find a way to prevent members from replying to the owners¡¯ private email addresses. I see that if a member posts a message, and I click reply, a box pops up that says, on the bottom, Reply to Group (green Button on left), and Private, a silver button on the right. We want to get rid of the private option. It¡¯s very important to us that our personal inboxes don¡¯t become clogged with list messages. We have always told members not to send private messages to us because that deprives over members of learning answers to questions they also may have. We do encourage them to use the list-owner address instead.
We also don¡¯t want members privately emailing each other. Some snarky business has happened in the past when they do this. So it is one of our rules that they not do this. In this case, we want the member to report it to the list-owner address. Thank you. Susan B |
Re: Maximum number of groups?
An update. On 11 Nov 2019, I was able to add an additional 19 groups.
I suspect that it should've been 20, because the 1st group I created, after being capped at 20 on 9 Nov 2019, was a test group, which I subsequently deleted when I realised I could now add more. So I'm guessing that deleted group counted towards my additional quota of 20. Perhaps it's a limit of 20 created groups per 48 hour period??? I have just 6 more to go then I'm done, so hopefully by 13 Nov 2019 I'll be able to add these last 6. |
Re: Security and Privacy
opnagroup,
1. Many members didn't like being "auto-added" to groups.io withoutYou mean, as opposed to the opt-out they get in the "You've been added" notice? As I recall that was discussed (in beta) during the development of the Easy Yahoo Group Transfer. The concern was that requiring an opt-in would result in a very low success rate for transfers, because getting people to receive, read, and respond can be a high hurdle. And especially in a situation like now, when there's been precious little time to inform and prepare the Yahoo Group membership in advance. Are there privacy issues? No more so than with a Yahoo Group, in my opinion. In some respects perhaps fewer concerns, in that Groups.io has conformed its privacy policy to Europe's GDPR requirements, and Yahoo Groups may not have. (Although the existence of the Yahoo getmydata facility suggests that they were paying at least some attention). /static/privacy 2. Are the content and messages stored securely (encrypted database orThe external connections are secure (HTTPS protocol), but I doubt if the database(s) of message and other content is itself encrypted. I could be wrong though, if it has come up before I don't recall what was said. If you really need to know I think you'd have to ask [email protected], or maybe in beta when things settle down. Passwords are another matter, I'm certain that Groups.io stores them as secure hashes per current best practices, not plain text. 3. Longevity of groups.io. How can we tell if this is a viableThe short answer is that you can't. In terms of financial viability Groups.io runs on a Freemium business model: the groups that upgrade to Premium or Enterprise plans are subsidizing those that operate on the Basic plan. That's it, no ads, no advertisers, no tracking and selling of your personal data. The founder of Groups.io feels that Freemium will prove to be a more stable model in the long run, than trying to chase money from advertisers. That relates to the message Duane cited in the "prophesy" topic: More recently he has suggested that an upgrade to Premium, even for a month, is the best way you can help ensure Groups.io's financial viability. Thanks Bruce, thanks Duane.
I gave it another shot, and on 11 Nov 2019 I could create additional groups. Whether Group.io changed it as a result of an email I sent to?[email protected]?on 10 Nov 2019 I don't know. |

I was seemingly capped at 20 groups on 9 Nov 2019. But by 11 Nov 2019, I was able to create additional groups.

Re: Managing Direct Add Membership Query
John,
Does this mean that the Moderation status becomes the group default,I wrote: What I've done in the past is temporarily change the Default SubOops. Frances called me out on that. I wasn't remembering clearly. The member's Posting Privilege (moderation status) isn't included in the Default Sub Settings. Though I've wished it were. Instead: The Posting Privileges of a Direct Add'd member (or any new member except one transferred from a Yahoo Group) is initially set to either o "Use Group Moderation Setting", or o "Override: new user moderated"; depending on whether the group has the "New Users Moderated" box checked in the Spam Control section of Settings. In the former case the member's messages are controlled by the "Moderated" box in that Spam Control section. In the latter case the member's messages are moderated until "Unmoderate After" number of that member's messages have been approved. That latter control appears in the Spam Control section if the New Users Moderated" box is checked. So, in addition to the group's Default Sub Settings page, set the group's "New Users Moderated" checkbox the way you want it (temporarily) for those added members before initiating the Direct Add. Re: changing all moderated members to not moderated in newly transferred group
Keith,
I have a large group that just transferred group. I would like toWhat Frances said. Or do you mean they had been moderated in the Yahoo Group? Have a look in the Members list (at Groups.io) and see if they are flying any of the badges related to moderation (P, M, NuM, or NP). /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Status-Badges-in-the-Members-List If not then they are set to use the default group setting. Which is probably how you want them. In other words they are under the control of the Moderated checkbox in the Spam Control section of your group's Settings page. Uncheck that box to unmoderate them all at a stroke (to do this you will need to have at least one other box in that section checked). Can this be done, or do I have change all 1,600 or so individually? If you need to change them you can change them in batches using the Actions menu at the bottom of the Members list. Check the box to the left of the Display Name column header to checkmark a page at a time. It is unfortunate that there's no facility to sort or search the list by those badges, that would be really handy for operations like this. I believe the default list length is 20, but you can change it in the Preferences page of your Account info. I don't know if Infinite Scroll works for this purpose, if you're adventurous give it a try and tell us what happened. Re: #bouncedemails
#bouncedemails
Ann,
If I correct the email address of a bouncing member, ...Be aware that correcting the member's email address corrects it in their account - affecting all of their group subscriptions, not just your group. But then the bouncing affects all of their subscriptions too, so that's probably not a bad thing in this case. will the new email address go through and no longer have the memberI'm not sure on this. I don't recall if the member is sent a notice of your action to the old and/or new address. If they are sent one to the new address it is probably delivery tracked and a successful delivery would reset the bounce status. If it appears not to have cleared within a few minutes, you can try sending a Bounce Probe via their member page, but for that I think the member must respond to the probe to reactivate the address. Re: Yahoogroups main member list includes bouncers
Samuel,
So I wrote a quick little AutoIt script that compares the main list ofI've done much the same thing, pulling both lists into separate sheets in an Excel file, then appending a column to the members sheet that uses the =MATCH() function to find out if this row's address appears in the bouncing sheet. Sorting by that column separates the bouncers from the non-bouncers in the members list. On the other hand, the .csv file exported by Sam Hobbs' chrome add-in includes a multitude of metadata columns, including a memberStatus column that indicates BOUNCED or CONFIRMED for each member. Re: Photo Download Bug
Bruce, Bill,
This also happens with Firefox as well.? It was first noticed for me on a new list where a subscriber was getting duplicate images after a search in Photos.? Neither one would allow saving or copying an image. This subscriber came from a list where all photos were attachments, not stored in the Photo albums.? He didn't have a problem searching the Emailed Photos and I won't tell him. AS a follow-on, when you search the photos albums you not only lose the ability to download the image, but later when instead you go to photo albums, select an album, view the images and select one, the download feature is still non-functional until you close the browser/reboot.? Instead of getting save or copy functions when trying to download, the only option is to open another window, if you try that, download functions are still only open another window... -- ken clark www.shastasprings.com |
