Is it possible that my setting -- to require approval of new members -- is gumming up the works?

They're probably applying from an email address other than the one that got transferred since those automatically became members.? Those people can also sign into their account and change their email address.

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

You didn't quote the part you MIGHT want:
So, you are looking for more information about the sender of the posts?
If you are the owner or the moderator with permissions, you can go to Admin, Members and see their display name, if set, their email address and subscription option they have chosen, and application date.

If you click in the checkbox beside the name, you can activate the dropdown menu.

In that same list, clicking anywhere on the name, email address, etc. opens a useful menu. Their subscription info, etc. but also several buttons - email delivery, notes, etc.
Activity button has more searches, etc.
If you aren't the group owner or a moderator with the permission to see Members in Admin, you can't do this.

I can see all of your messages, starting from your subscription to GMF at 8:26pm this evening.

At that point, the only dropdown menu I see is "Actions", which has in it the options
?? Remove
?? Ban
?? Send Message
?? Change Email Delivery
?? Change Moderation

None of which is the command I need: "Find his Messages."

Re: deleting messages

You might want to ensure you picked the right option for you about?
Go to Admin, Settings. Scroll down to Message Policies. Out of Space gives you some options.?
Delete old attachments is the option I choose, rather than bounce email.

Also from the Plans and Prices page:

?
We send you a warning when you've reached 80% of your storage limit. You can configure your group to either bounce messages when you've reached your storage limit, or to automatically delete old attachments to keep you under the storage limit. Photos and files are never automatically deleted.

Yes. In Admin>Settings, click the "Export Group Data" button at the top of the page.

Re: deleting messages

Win, good news! Messages don't count as part of your allowance.

What Is Counted Towards The Storage Limits For My Group?
?
The following are counted towards the storage limits for your group:
?
Files
Photos
Images in databases
Images in wiki pages
Message attachments
Messages themselves are not counted towards the storage limits, only any attachments.

Source:
/static/pricing#what-is-counted-towards-the-storage-limits-for-my-group

Removing content is tedious. If you view messages as topics, it is faster. But only remove old ones with attachments. If you migrated from YahooGroups, attachments weren't migrated.

See 5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?
?
Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.

deleting messages

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

My group was at 94% of our 1 gig allowance.

I have been deleting attachments as per instructions (very tedious), but via group discussion we decided to delete a large number of messages from the early days, thereby getting rid of the message and attachment at the same time. (Will this happen, or will the attachments stay in storage even though the corresponding message is no longer there?)

I can¡¯t find any way to jump to the oldest message other than change the date order ¡ is that correct?

Can I bulk delete messages, or do I have to open each one, click on More, then click on Delete Message? I want to delete about 2000 messages !!

Keeping my fingers crossed, but I¡¯m not optimistic¡

Win

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

Thank you, Larry, your explanation of why is probably true, but it doesn't answer my question of how to find the messages.? The group in question is busy enough that the messages have scrolled off what the home page shows.

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

Your original question this evening was:
And then what?
I just received 8 copies of what appear to be the same message. ?I've found the poster in the list of members, but there isn't any "More" menu or other useful controls.

In June 2018, Shal wrote:

To look for messages from a specific person find a message from that person and used "All Posts By This Member" in the More menu. Or, find the person in the group's Directory (if available).

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

I posted this under a question asking how to search for messages by author, because that is what I need to do to find out whether the multiple messages really exist in the database (and if so, I want to delete them) or it was just a hiccup by groups.io's sending system.

That earlier question is here: /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/21944638?p=,,,100,0,0,0::relevance,,%23search,100,2,0,21944638,ct=1&ct=1

The answer given there does not work.? Thus my, "And then what?"

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

If the problem repeats, somehow your email address is in the group list multiple times.

If it doesn't repeat, it's likely that a mail server went down (multiple times) and re-sent the same cache each time it was restarted. Twenty years ago this wasn't uncommon at all.

Larry

Re: Multiple copies of the same message

Open one of the messages in your group homepage.?
There is a "hamburger" menu that allows you edit, view source, lock topic, etc.

If this isn't your problem, please ask again.
Since you are brand new here, you might find the wiki useful.

Re: Identifying Missing Messages after YahooGroups Transfer?

In YahooGroups (web interface), the URL of each message ends with the number of that message, and that number is incremental starting with "1" back at the beginning of the group and its first post.
In Groups.io, the upper right corner of the web interface says "1 - 20 of 13074"
That is where I am getting my numbers from.

Over the 20 years my group has been in existence, it's possible some messages have been deleted.? But 133 seems high.? I am the only one allowed to post, and I am the only owner/moderator.? If any had been deleted, I'd guess less than a dozen, not over 100!

Is there a way to export Groups.io messages in mbox format so I could 'diff' it against the YahooGroups mbox export and identify the oddities that way?

Ron -- Create a hashtag with the "no email" flag set, and add that hashtag to each such message. That will do what you want.

Kinda awkward, I admit; but seems better than temporarily changing everyone's message delivery setting and then trying to change them all back. It will also help you find all the affected messages later, if for some reason things don't go as expected.

Bruce

Re: Move messages AFTER group transfer?

Not directly.? You'd have to forward or copy each one as an email from you, so much of the 'envelope' would be lost.
Duane
I would like to do this.? I've got an announcement-only group. I am the only one allowed to post, and therefore have all of the original messages in my Sent mail folder on my computer that I can just forward in to Groups.io.

My question is, can I temporarily turn off the mailing out of messages from my Groups.io group, so subscribers don't see the same messages again?? And then once the missing messages are in, turn it back on, and proceed like normal?

Thanks.

You cannot count on the message number of the highest message to be the same as the total messages present. I suspect these 133 messages were deleted from your Yahoo group before the export ever occurred.?

Identifying Missing Messages after YahooGroups Transfer?

My YahooGroups -> Groups.io transfer completed today (woooo!)? See below for the progress I experienced.

Is there any way to identify what messages got missed, and why?

Thanks.
