Hello,
I upgraded my group to Premium Yearly plan?and paid. I invited "[email protected]" to join my Yahoo group. Thanks Bruce.? I'm quite sure that I did this You have to type in your Yahoo Group in the top box and?also?select your destination group from the pull-down menu immediately below it. At that point you should be able to click on the green "Start Group Transfer Process" button without getting an error message of some kind.? I typed the YGroup name?evonline2002_webheads in the top box I'm sure I entered the destination group in the bottom menu. I believe it would have been listed there and I selected it, is that correct? I'm pretty sure I clicked to start the transfer process. What should I do now? try again? Please advise, and thanks ? My thanks to Groups.io for the impressive import of our Yahoo Group.? Not everything came through.? However, that was due to Yahoo-related corruptions. #transfer Waiting since Oct 31 for iGroups.io to accept invitation to join Yahoo Group evonline2002_webheads
#transfer
Dear helpful team,
Sorry about adding to the pile of similar mails but I upgraded my Yahoo Group?evonline2002_webheads to premium over a week ago, on Oct 31. I entered that group name into the step 2 field and as instructed "Click the big green "Start Group Transfer Process" button at the bottom of the page" I then began step 3 and all is NOT well, as there is no indication that a transfer has begin, and as it says in 3.2?If it?doesn't?say that, the invitation did not go through.?Go back to Step 3.1 above and try again.?? I did that many times in the first couple of days in Nov and then was instructed in a reply to my post at the time to NOT do that. So I tried step 4.2BE EVEN MORE PATIENT. and now 9 days have passed and this is what I see at the bottom of my?/yahootransfer View Existing Transfer Status: (followed by nothing - no transfers are listed)
The obvious problem with the process is that despite the noble and tireless efforts of the many volunteers to try to deal with the masses of requests for attention to each user's individual problem, there is no way for the individual to find out if anything at all was started at groups.io One possible solution would be for groups.io to send people who have paid and been waiting for over a week as patiently as possible a REQUEST to join their group. Our group is a group of around 1000 educators who have been operating as a community of practice without funding since 2002 and I have paid $220 to preserve its thousands of messages. I would appreciate knowing if there is an upper limit on patience required as it appears there is nothing more I can do through this FAQ system, unless I've gone off somewhere through my fault, though I've read a good number of posts here, and can't see where I have done that.. Vance Stevens Holder of the crown in this group since Nov 24, 2001 3.1 Go to your YAHOO GROUP (not your groups.io group) and log in. Send a membership invitation to "[email protected]". Select the group you are transferring from the Existing Transfers at bottom right (click on its link). A new page will come up, with?a status box at the top. Go back to Step 3.1 above and try again.?? (You have now completed Step 3 of the instructions) 4.1 BE PATIENT. Accepting the invitation is often?the longest step in the process, and requires human intervention (solving a CAPTCHA).? 4.2 BE EVEN MORE PATIENT.?Do?not?send additional invitations in an attempt to hurry things up. 4.3 You will eventually?receive an email from groups.io stating?that the Yahoo group invitation has been accepted, and providing you with further instructions.?Continue waiting until you receive this email. message thread question
I've noticed that the message thread (with or without
attachment) isn't included with a reply when single messages are
delivered.
From a member's comment below, it appears that's also the case when a Daily Summary is delivered. So is the only way to see the entire thread is to click on view/reply online and scroll through all messages in the thread? Member's message: "I can't see the original message with the attachment.? I have set it up to receive the daily summary but the original message is not on the daily summary. I am not sure what I am doing wrong."? |

Managing Direct Add Membership Query
In a premium group, it is possible to direct add members by cutting and pasting their email address.
However, there seems to be no provision for adding a screen name or Moderation status, etc to the invitation. Does this mean that the Moderation status becomes the group default, or can it be imported? Thanks, -John ===================== |
Re: Transferring a yahoo group in stages?
#transfer
Hi, I am wondering if and how your staged transfer process worked? ?I am considering similar issues (want to transfer YahooGroup archive of messages before it's too late..., but do not want to invite my YahooGroup members to Groups.io until later, since I just precipitously moved the membership to GoogleGroups). ?So was there a successful way to move the archive and the list of members, but not to welcome the members, not to activate the io group until a later time, perhaps in a month or two? ?And at that later time, would I be able to send the welcome easily?
I hope that all makes sense, and welcome any suggestions. Thanks in advance, ? Lisa |
Re: Best way to follow a topic?
but is there a way for me to get an email of any replies to topics I would like to follow? ?(I don't see a 'follow' button..)Well, not quite. But there is a "follow" but doesn't work for group when your subscription is to receive all emails. Follow This Topic: This is a link to a page which will Follow this topic so that you receive further messages (by email) in this topic. This will only be seen if you have selected Following Only and First Message Also in the Advanced Preferences section of your group Subscription. See the Help page for more information on Muting and Following hashtags.
?
Unfollow This Topic: ?This is a link to a page which will unfollow this topic so that you do not receive further messages (by email) in this topic. This will only be seen if you have selected Following Only in the Advanced Preferences section of your group Subscription. See the Help page for more information on Muting and Following hashtags.
-- /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Footers If you do opt for Subscription Advanced Preferences, you can see online what you are following, etc. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Managing-Muted-and-Followed-Topics I used to follow this group with Advanced Preferences until I was drafted in as moderator recently. I found it useful. In the "all messages" subscription, you can mute topics - see your email footer for this, for example. Re: Help with transfer - HELP!!!!!!!!
Francis, You seem to have misunderstood my problem. I did all the steps Including sending an invitation from the group we own FlaxSeedOil2 to [email protected]?I did that, but I have not received an email saying to promote the transfer agent so my files, members, etc are transferred. Also, I cannot check on where my group is in the queue on the page you linked in your last message to me. My flaxseedoil2 is already set up on Groups.io but nothing has been transferred. I paid the yearly fee of $220 on Oct 29 and got an email saying my group was approved. I invited the transferred agent to join Flaxseedoil2. I am the owner of that group. The problem is that I have received no email saying??the transfer agent has joined my group, flaxseedoil2, and I should promote him to a moderator. ? I also cannot check on the progress of my transfer on the page that is supposed to have a button for checking that.?
You wrote: "So you started the transfer but you are stymied by having to invite the email address?[email protected]?to your Yahoo Group. NO, I'm not "stymied by having to send an invite, I've already done that. The problem is that I have not received any email response from groups.io. ?Why is that? ?Sandra Olson? |
auto-subscribe member to subgroup

#subgroups
I think?the answer to this is "no", but in case I missed something...
Our group is one of the ones being made homeless by Yahoo, and we're in the transfer queue right now. Making the most of the opportunity we've been looking to see if there are things we can make use of in GIO that simply weren't there in Y! which should be a benefit to members (of course there are!). The one that jumped out immediately is the subgroup. The membership is essentially a peer group, so we wouldn't use subgroups to segregate members as such, but rather to coarsely categorise content. Although having now established that you can't move topics between groups - a shame - it would only be a bare handful of subgroups, we'd probably use hashtags for the finer categorisation. All members would be entitled/encouraged to be in all subgroups with the possible exception of a moderators subgroup. So, the point of the question: Can I have a new member automatically subscribed to a sub group (or groups) without me or another moderator having to direct add, or inviting the member? Not a deal breaker especially, but it would be nice to take one more manual step out of the admin process or the user's process. The subgroups of course would be set unrestricted so minimum hurdles to jump, but even so... Thanks in advance! Derek |
