It looks like your email client is tiling the background because the screen width is too wide.

Re: Personalgroupware (PG Offline)

Just confirming a similar experience to Laurence for me; decided to buy the license yesterday (Nov 4) after letting the (30-day) trial period run down. Specifically, I sent the original request at 12:21 (UK time) to the info@ address, got a response with the paypal link at 13:10, paid immediately and got the license at 13:52. All of the email responses were from the info@ address.

Not sure which part of the US Wilson's in, but maybe he's more of a morning person?

Re: Member Switchover Timing

What is her membership status? i.e. did she retain her join date of the yahoo date or is it the current join date? Not that most people will care, just curious.

Voila! She was able to do so. Ownership was retained!

Also, her edit was sent for re-moderation and approval to post.

Hopefully, our little test will allay one worry about moving members and getting going here while awaiting import.

Re: Q about finding a particular member

Sandi D.

When searching for a particular member you need to search with a peice of known information that they have entered in your IO Group. Enter that in the search box. You don't say if your group is new or was transferred from YG. I am guessing transferred given you have 3000 members.?

The email address may or may not get you there. It should, if the member is still using the same email address they used in the YG. But if they signed up for IO under a different email address they could have changed their email address in the IO group if that was allowed.?

I moderate a new (not transferred) group. I have found searching?by name will not work unless the person entered part of their name as his/her display name. Those who have not logged into IO have a blank display name. Our group is set up to allow me to edit their Display Name. Any blanks, and fill it in with their real name. IDK, but am guessing that YG transfers may put their Yahoo user name in the IO display field. If so, that won't help you to search under their real name.?

They will not be listed in the directory by name unless you require them to use their name in the display field.
If your group is new and requires approval, you might search your approval emails for those containing the name you are looking for.?

My last suggestion is to download the CSV file (spreadsheet) of your members and use your computer software to search for portions of their previously known YG ID or YG email address. The CSV file contains their email, display and user name, among other things.?

In our group, we require every member to use their first name and last name initial (or last name) as their display name. We require everyone to use their Full Name in their signature. We require them to provide us (owner/moderator) their full name in the approval emails.?

IO balances personal privacy along with the IO Group Owners parameters for data sharing of personal information within the group. The only way you can ensure finding what you are searching for (in this case a name) is to maintain a personal spreadsheet of your members with everyone's data and add a name field to it. That way, if someone later switched their display name, you can refer to your spreadsheet that links real names to display names and email addresses.

Thanks Bruce for requesting the test... I think this will help many during this stressful transfer period.

Re: How to open files from Files section in browser

I think groups.io sends the data from the files section using a non-browser mime type with some intention. They want to avoid that the files-section is abused as a webserver (assumingly mostly due to legal considerations).

Re: How to get out of the download photo in groups.io

I must be missing something. When I go to a photo in an album and I
click on Edit and go down to the bottom and click on download, up
comes the photo (which is great). After I right click and do the
Save as, I'm at a loss as to how to get out of the photo itself.
There is no "X" to click on . No "back". No column on the left side
to click on Photos again. The only way I've found to get out of that
state is to click my back arrow at the top of my server company
(AOL).
I'm not sure where "Edit" comes in, I don't see that, but I have
duplicated your experience after clicking "Download".

It happens this way because of the way your browser responds to the
GroupsIO page code - it displays the picture instead of offering it as a
download. The only way out of it, as you've found, is to use the
browser's "back" button (you might find the backspace key on the
keyboard also works).

To get round this, use the right-click "Save as" option on the download
button itself.

Re: Change destination for one of my group transfers

Dale -- Your situation is unfortunate, although probably self-inflicted.

I can only imagine how you must feel about having this kind of mess after having ponied up that much money.

Sit tight. You have almost a month to get this straightened out. Meanwhile, your Yahoo Groups are still there to fall back on, or at least I would hope so.?

Good luck,

Yes, if you use the Easy Group Transfer process.

Nothing that I can think of.

Re: Syncing new messages from Yahoo to Groups.io after group transfer #yahoo

We set all members of the old YahooGroup to moderated. ?Then when a message comes in we reject it with a message to the sender reminding them that the YahooGroup is closed due to changes at Yahoo and they should use the Groups.io, along with a sign up link.

Re: Change destination for one of my group transfers

Kathleen,? this is what happened to me, somehow my YG Group was Mis-Mapped to Transfer to the wrong Destination IO group.? I sent emails for a week to Support at IO and never got a human reply.? There was no way to change/fix the destination.? I thought that maybe if I paid the $200 expedite fee they would see my emails asking to fixt the mapping.? ?The worst ting happned, they put the wrong Members, files and messages into the wrong group.

so they put a 1300 member YG DGUSA group, all the date into the wrong IO SOCalScouts group.
and they put
a 490 member YG SoCalSCouts mebers list with files and messages into my 3100 member IO LAProducer group.

it created and absolute mess and these are my critical career contacts getting co-mingled.? The worse part is I tried to prevent it but Groups.IO support is not reading the Tech Support emails, the are focused on ringing the register all day long instead of getting it right.? I am so disappointed.? I also very forgiving and hopign someone at Groups.IO eventually reads the desparate emails I have been sending to fix it.? ?I fixed the Membership lists in Buld Edit Members. But there is no Bulk Edit Messages.? ? I hope you understand and we need to Pray for the staff at Groups.io doing all this work, I think they are getting tired or something.? ?the support is not there right now and I am out $930. so far for my 3 groups.? ?-Peace.

How to open files from Files section in browser

Hello

I've noticed that although I can add .html and .txt files to the Files section of my group, and although I can search through such files, when I left-click a result, my browser prompts me with a "what to do" notice (e.g. download, open, etc.). A browser should be able to open HTML and TXT files without being prompted, so I guess there is something about the Files page that tells the browser "this is a downloadable file".

I'd like users to be able to left-click a TXT or HTML file in the Files section and let it open in their web browser pretty much without prompting. Can that be done somehow?

Thanks
Samuel

Well, for the moment, just make sure you have copies of your mails. You can always investigate other options later about how to make these mails available to people. There must be many ways to store stuff online and give people access to it.

You cannot change it after you've given the go-ahead and are already in the transfer queue.?

That's what "giving the go-ahead" means...that you're satisfied with how you have it set up and are ready for the transfer agent to take over.
