My apologies for being dense...
?
I got the inspection to open readily but attempting to look at a variety of https:// links all got me gobbledygook.
?
By chance can you give me any part of a string that I might search for on the presumption that the beginning of the correct string would be the same for everyone?
?
Thanks.

Hi Linda,

?

I have done that the last days.

-Use Firefox

-Move over the Photo with the mouse pointer

-Press the right button

-Select inspect element or something like that

-Then go to the window that has opened

-In this window some lines above the cursor is a line that contains the URL of the photo

-Mark this line

-Press the right mouse button

-select ->copy -> outer HTML?? or something like that

-open a new tab

-insert that copied text

-Strip everything that is not the URL of the picture away

-Open the URL

-You should now see the picture

-Press the right butten and save the photo to your harddisk

-Done :-)

?

If you can't get this done email me the groupname and I will post the photo back to you.

I have transferred or recreated a number of groups from YG onto GIO. I have backed up messages/files/photos on the groups that were not full "easy transfers", via PG Offline. My question is whether there is a way to download existing cover photos from YG, which I had initially created and uploaded years ago but failed to keep the originals files accessible. It would be nice to be able to reuse some of these banner photos on the new groups rather than starting from scratch. I do not see any obvious way to download them from the YGs, nor can I see where they would be stored on the group site/settings. Any suggestions? Linda N

John -- There is no longer a dropdown box at this location. It is now just a list of links, one for each transfer you have underway. As best I can tell, this was changed yesterday morning. Apparently, too many people were struggling to realize that they had to actually click in the box and select a group name.

If you have no list of links here...and it appears that you do not...then you don't have any transfers started. Please also consider that you could be logged in with the wrong email address.

Transfering the group

Re: Accepting new member requests before transfer is complete?

From what I've read, a brand new member should be OK to join.? If an old member joins at Groups.io before the official transfer,? the old member settings and join date will be ignored.? These are relatively minor issues.

New posts at Groups.io before the official mirgration, from what I've seen in some groups, can cause minor issues with the message numbers.? The new posts will be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, .., N.? The migrated posts will be numbered N+1, N+2, etc.? So if the posts are sorted by date, the numbers will be jumbled up.? So if you go to message #1 expecting the see the first Yahoo post, instead you will see the first post at Groups.io.? Also, if you scroll through the messages one by one using the < and > buttons, there will be an error message that there are no posts before the #1 message, and therefore you cannot reach the old messages from Yahoo Groups by scrolling through.? But it only affects scrolling, and you can still access the old messages in other ways (e.g. sorting by date).

You can prevent the members from posting by placing them on moderation.? There is a group setting where the first N posts from new members are moderated.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Larry,

I was experimenting a little earlier today with a little test group I've had on Y! since, well, forever it seems like. I was able to send an invite to join the group to a non-Yahoo email account, so I think Duane's comment about the Yahoo functionality is correct. Unless they're deliberately blocking groups.io, of course...

Sally -- Not that I'm aware of.

It's a little harsh-sounding: "Your message was not approved", especially if the message was a note to the moderators.
Sounds better than "Your message was rejected."?

Suggestions for system enhancements should be posted to -- the official "suggestion box" for groups.io. Be sure to word it as a proposal. Saying you don't like something without providing an alternative is not a proposal.?

Able to edit reject message heading?

Our group is finally up and running yay! Still marvelling at the instantaneous message delivery :) Also the ability to message members from the pending post page is great.
One question - is there a way to change the subject which appears when a message is rejected? It's a little harsh-sounding: "Your message was not approved", especially if the message was a note to the moderators. If not, has this been suggested before?
Thanks, Sally

Well, clearly he already has an account, as Duane suggested earlier. He's probably already logged in, too.?

I suggest telling him to quit fiddling around with his account stuff and instead just go to your group home page and click the "Join This Group" button. You might want to give him the URL, too. I did my level best to find your "LA Producers" group myself and was unable to do so.

Re: Transferring Yahoo group after October 28

Thanks for the response, Bruce. I am the sole owner of the Yahoo group and have full permissions. It appears that after October 28, Yahoo is not allowing new invitations.

Re: Joining and Login Issues #addmembers #membershiprequest

Thanks, Duane,

I've asked for a screen shot of the "Big Cheap" page.? After I asked this question, I realized that there are indeed groups that can remain private.? So for all I know "Big Cheap" exists.

Gmail can be weird.? It somehow recognizes that you're the one that sent the message, so won't put it in your inbox.? If you send it from another email address, it will.? This has been discussed in previous topics, so you might find additional guidance there.

Frances, I did receive both your emails.? ?After that, about one hour ago, I sent another email to +owners, and it is still not appearing in my Gmail account.? (I've checked spam and did a search on groups.io) Weird.

Any other thoughts as to what is causing this problem.? ?

Re: Making members' email addresses invisible

There is a setting to hide your members' email addresses in the archives.

Admin -> Settings -> in the Privacy area -> Hide Email Addresses In Archives

You can change it to "Mask all email addresses in the web archives"

We'll need more information to make an educated guess on the 2nd issue.

This is surely not a good nor a safe policy for a group, ?because:
1. email addresses can be harvested by those with malign intentions (that is already a pretty risky thing to allow in view of GDPR regulations)
2. group discussions and contacts can be sidetracked into offline or private channels, while the whole idea of the group is 'public' / open discussion and contact.
Therefore, how can I ?suppress or make members' email addresses invisible by default to all except Moderators and above?
Grateful for any help.

Even YG did this, it's the nature of email lists (forums are a different animal.)? Groups.io has had lawyers investigate GDPR and they believe that it's in full compliance.

You can minimize the harvesting by vetting members before allowing them in the group.

The only way to prevent members from seeing the email address of others is to not allow posting.? If you have the Directory enabled, they can always use that though.? And make sure you don't have the Members list viewable by subscribers.
