Paul -- My experience suggests the opposite:? People reading the archives are enticed to join when they realize that they cannot post, cannot access the file or photo that someone is talking about, etc. If they cannot read messages at all, then they don't know what they're missing.

Note that once you make your message archives private, there is no way to make it public again if you change your mind. So be very sure this is what you want to do before you flip the switch.

Question ref value of who may view the archives based on group settings . . . .

Recently our group's subcription option was changed so it no longer requires moderator approval of new subscribers:

~ Subscriptions to this group do not require approval from the moderators.
~ Archives are visible to anyone.

Now that anyone can may subscribe easily I am wondering whether changing who may view the Archives from 'anyone' to 'only subscribers may view' will provide any incentive for more new members to subscribe so they may see our Archives?

So . . . . I'm hoping that some other GMF Member-moderators will have had experiences in a similar vein with their own groups. Experiences which may corroborate my expectation that altering these two group settngs could tend to encourage new members to subscribe.

Cheers!

No. That invitation will not be processed, and all email addresses with such an error will be displayed in the resulting Invite Summary.
I should probably clarify this...

A repeat invitation WILL go out again to any person who is not currently a subscriber. It could be that (s)he accepted your invitation and subsequently left the group. The Accepted status found on this page does not reflect current subscription status, only that -- on some given date -- you sent that email address an invitation and it was accepted.

Repeatedly inviting someone who has voluntarily left your group could be considered annoying behavior. That's why I recommend you clean out the Accepted invitations periodically and not blindly rely on the system to manage it all for you.

Okay, hope this helps...

You can click on the "Status" link at the top of the column to sort the Sent entries to the top. Also consider cleaning things up by deleting any invitations that have already been Accepted. This can be done from the Actions menu ("Cancel/Remove Invite").

I did note that when you do a resend, it doesn't note the date of the resend anywhere (which would be helpful)

You say people are joining, and I guess that's okay, but for people in your Yahoo group it's really best to let the transfer agent do it. It's also not uncommon to have a few items left behind in the Yahoo group, due to problems with their servers.

Did you get an email from the transfer agent telling you it was done? Can you fill us in regarding at what step of the transfer process you are? We will struggle to tell you what you're doing wrong until you tell us what you're doing.

I have remembered that in the last few years since Yahoo was ''bought'' by verizon you do need a yahoo address to access the web-site and things like the files and photos area. Otherwise you just get email access.

I looked at the group and there's nothing to see, no access to
anything as a non-member. I clicked join and added a note that's
required. I doubt there is anyone there who can approve the
membership. If they do, then you should be able to join also. I'll
leave the group if they approve it after looking around.

Re: Cannot get Yahoo group content

Darius, I think there is one way of trying to contact the current owner an email
<groupname>-owner@... This is obviously for a UK Yahoo Group
It obviously may not work if the owner is no longer active or has changed his address.

This is bad news, but here's how it looks to Yahoo and why you won't
get their help.

If you aren't a member and if it's a closed group, you would have to
have your membership approved before having access to the files and
photos. You said it was your group at one point.

Let's assume it's not your group for a moment, as it might as well not
be if you can't remember your username and password or if they don't
work.

If it's open to the public (you said it's not), and if the public has
access to those areas, then you could download them one at a time then
upload them to your new GIO group, also one at a time.

But you're not a member (from Yahoo's standpoint). So you don't have
"rights" to access the group. Yahoo won't help since it's up to the
group owner (who can't log in) to approve your membership. That's how
Yahoo looks at it.

That means you're stuck if you don't have your login information or
the same contact email address to get your credentials recovered.
Yahoo, if there was any customer support, would think you're trying to
take over the group from the legitimate owner. They won't help you do
that. They used to let someone just run a group as a supermoderator if
the owner couldn't be contacted, to continue the group. But they don't
do that anymore, and you would still have had to be a member back when
they did that. We won't even go into how you do that since you're not
viewed as a member to the system. And it's pretty much a system of
computers that you're dealing with now that they pretty much got rid
of customer service.

You could just start a new group and realize that it will take a while
to build membership. If you have old emails from your group, you could
try inviting those members to the new group.

There's no magic way to recover your access to the group if you don't
have your login credentials, or if someone hacked the group somehow
and took it over, then removed you from the group.

I'm not sure exactly what happened as you didn't give a full history
of what happened, but in any case, it looks like you don't have a way
to get to those files or photos.

Changing Sub Group Email broke invitation links

Hi All,

I changed a subgroups email and then invited folks.? The welcome email text still referred to the old subgroup email,
all links and email addresses had the old email.? Also, the [groupname] still says the old email address.

Is this a known?issue?

Thanks,

Re: Cross posting to other lists

re: case for adding Show and Reply To 'All Recipients' options

Re-raising thread a year later to see if the above might be in the Groups.io near-term roadmap.

Our community has re-emphasized the need to not remove folks who are on Cc when Replying to message.

Our current list setting is "Reply to Sender"... although even if I updated to "Reply to Group" I don't believe this would solve the issue of not dropping folks added to Cc?

Cannot get Yahoo group content

Hi, my name is Darius.
I've been struggling for he past 8 months on figuring out how I can get photos, attachments from an old Yahoo group of mine, after the whole Yahoo hack, I couldn't get back on there, and the other mods had the same issue, long story short the yahoo group has been inactive since 2011. Its still up, and I searched for it out of curiosity and found it! I was ecstatic but I couldn't get in since its restricted and requires approval to which on one has access. I've been wanting to try and at least get the photos in he group. Ive been looking everywhere for help, I asked Yahoo support via twitter and they were 0 help, I asked reddit but they laughed at me. You guys are my last hope, please help me out.

Thanks so much!!

The link in the "log in" email is not a "password reset" link, as she may be accustomed to. If you click on that link, it logs you in without a password.

If she clicked on the link and it didn't take her to her account page, it may be that she was already logged in. She needs to check the menu at top right of the page (on the blue menu bar). If it doesn't say "Login" up there, but instead displays her Display Name or email address, then she doesn't need to log in...she already is.?

Once logged in, a password can be set by entering one at?/account?and clicking on the Change Password button. This is all explained in great detail at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Logging-in-and-How-to-Set-a-Personal-Password
