Re: #howto #reply-to-group
#reply-to-group
#howto
@Shal I have started testing your thoughtful suggestions. Some findings:
I think I have the #noemail hashtag working properly using the page But as pointed out in /static/help
Possible solution: Special address in reply to moderators group or special sender email address where members can see all the reply messages. I looked into setting up a [email protected] type subgroup for replies but could not get that going. Anyway, I'm learning about groups.io slowly but surely and will keep plugging away. Theo |
Facebook integrations not working
#bug
#integration
I own 2 groups, one which has 5 Facebook integrations and the other has 2. I have received no integration Facebook posts since 28th August on either group. I usually receive around 6 a day, and I know that there have been some posts on at least one of the Facebook pages.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known reason or solution, or do I need to report it as a bug? In case it is of any relevance,? I am in the UK. |
Re: How do I UNmoderate members
#moderation
Kathryn,
By the way Shal, this group was originally a move from Yahoo groups ifNo, other than having copied each member's Posting Privileges during the transfer. Otherwise as new members in Groups.io they would have started with Use Group Moderation Setting (no badge); or Override: New User Moderated (NuM, followed by a number) if your group's New Users Moderated box is checked. and there never was an M or NuM badge, I only have the PM could have been copied in, if any of your Yahoo Group members had that. But alas Yahoo Groups has no equivalent to the NuM badge. Having (nearly) everyone set to P is a common misunderstanding among Yahoo Group owners/mods. Even there it isn't the best way to have a New User Moderated group, using the group setting is. But because Y!G has no NuM privilege, it sets new members to M, and owners/mods commonly "unmoderate" the member by choosing "Override - posts are not moderated" rather than "Default Group Policy". and a couple of B(ouce) badges. Those would be members whose email address had likely gone bad before the transfer, but Y!G's bounce tracker long ago went flaky or broken, so that fact wasn't noted in their membership there. Hi Theo,
Not sure what you are trying to do. For starters, see this thread from today. Frances -- /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help More help: use the search button at the top of the Messages list. |
Re: Trying to get "No Email " hashtag to work
#hashtags
Theo,
I have tried add the following hashtags to message subjects but theIt isn't the name that makes a hashtag suppress email distribution. It is a property of the hashtag. Go to the Hashtag page in your group, pick the hashtag you want to use for this purpose and click its Edit button. Or use the Create Hashtag button at the bottom. By the way, Edit and Create are available only to group mods/owners. On the Edit Hashtag page you'll find a wealth of properties to control topics with that hashtag in the Subject line. One of these is the No Email checkbox. Check that, then scroll to the bottom and click the Update Hashtag button. Re: How do I UNmoderate members
#moderation
Kathryn,
That's the problem! The only thing checked under Spam Control isThere are many features which may force a message into the Pending list. I've started a page to describe it, but it is still a bit "under construction". /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Message-Moderation Still missing from that page is a description for Topic and Hashtag controls that send messages to the Pending list. Those have found to be the cause of "mystery" moderation in the past. If the pending messages have any hashtags I've even gone through all 131 members and the P for Can Post isI generally recommend against that practice, preferring to leave members set to "Use Group Moderation Setting". That way the group's Moderated checkbox can be turned on as needed to quell a flame war or other disturbance in the group. That said, maybe "Overide: not moderated" only overrides the group's Moderated checkbox, and not these other features. I'll have to check that to make sure my wiki page describes it correctly. Trying to get "No Email " hashtag to work
#hashtags
I have tried add the following hashtags to message subjects but the new topic messages keep getting emailed out to all members I have tried created messages by email and in the groups.io message editor. #noemail What could I be doing wrong? |
Re: How do I UNmoderate members

By the way Shal, this group was originally a move from Yahoo groups if that makes a difference, and there never was an M or NuM badge, I only have the P and a couple of B(ouce) badges.

Re: How do I UNmoderate members
#moderation
That's the problem! The only thing checked under Spam Control is Restricted Membership. There is no checkmark in either Moderated or New Users Moderate, so I shouldn't be getting the emails to allow the post. I've even gone through all 131 members and the P for Can Post is beside everyone's email address. So there is still a problem looking for answers.

Re: How Do We Change The Settings For Group Emails
Charlotte,
If you want all emails to go to the sender only, go to Admin, Settings, scroll down to Message Policies. "Reply to" has a dropdown menu. Be sure to click on Update Group at the foot of the page. If you only want occasional emails tot go to the sender only, you can use the email footer in an email to Reply to Sender. Or from the group homepage, click to reply and then click Private (bottom right side). Re: How Do We Change The Settings For Group Emails
Charlotte,
How do we change the settings to only reply to the sender of the emailOn the Settings page (in the Admin group of links in the left column) scroll down to the Message Policies section. The control you want is "Reply To". From the drop-list select Sender. Don't forget to go to the very bottom of the page and click the Update Group button. In the group's web interface this will change the default behavior of the Reply link so that it shows Reply to Sender instead of Reply to Group. In email messages from the group it will change the Reply-To header field which tells the member's email interface where to send replies. Settings - Member Sync tab
#settings
For some reason (error?), the?Member Sync tab does?not?appear?in Settings, just in the other?tabs (default sub, cover photo, notices, ?and export group data.
There are also two names - Member Sync (the tab label) and when you click on it, it says Service Sync. Any reason that it doesn't appear on the main Settings page or should I send it to beta group that Mark monitors?

Cindy,
I wrote:but the auto generated email says the person is invited by my email Set your display name. I believe that will be used together with your email address.Correction. Your Display Name will be used instead of your email address. You can set your display name on a group-by-group basis from your group profile, which you can reach through a tab on the Subscription page in any group, or through the Identity page in your Account. Ken,
*does EVERYONE have access to the diffs*? I thought only Mods????Everyone does. Take a look at any group's Wiki pages. Same is true of messages, in groups which allow messages to be edited after posting. Re: Adding new FB Integrations - "That name does not appear to be the name of a Facebook Page"
Thanks, Bruce, for your response.
I currently use the integration for a few of our local choirs' FB pages (moderated) so that I can let *our* choir (mail list hosted on groups.io) know of things of interest posted on FB by our, and other choirs. I am not on FB myself, but otherwise run all internal/external communication for our choir. So getting a moderation notice when our own Facebook people post something is helpful to *me* (because it's a pain to look at a FB public page when you're not logged in, half obscured by "join now!" pop ups etc.) and then if it's of interest to the choir as a whole, I approve it to go out to our mailing list. I also have set up a separate, completely private personal group just for myself where I have local city/community FB pages integrated so I can monitor local events. I'm the only member of that group, and the only thing I do is use it to see if something local is going on. So, it's not exactly "posting" to anyone but me. For better or worse, I'm not concerned about the legality of cross-posting since it's really only for my own eyes, to get a ping to see if there's a reason to check out a Facebook page. I have integrated so far about 8 or 9 pages between these two groups, and never had the error message until I tried to add my local city's page feed. (I already have a handful of choirs, our downtown city organization, our local birding association, a local business... and they were all set up months ago.)? But, trying to add *any* new page gives me that same error message. And, I'm being quite random in my selection for testing purposes: global, *big* companies, tourism organizations (that you'd think would life a country restriction since they want foreign eyes), big tech-oriented global news sites (who would know to lift restrictions).? I really have sampled a WIDE cross section of sites, and NOTHING is apparently the name of a Facebook page. That's why I'm thinking it's something about the API or the initial request for integration. My current integrations work just fine, so it really is at the "try to set up the integration" stage. And, I've tried adding new integrations (for testing purposes) to BOTH my choir group and this private personal one I created. Same thing is happening.? It's not a huge deal for me right now, since I don't have an urgent need to integrate this one page. But there is definitely something going on somewhere, if I can't add any integrations to any groups. I'm not using a VPN and I'm on a Chromebook browsing in Chrome, which is how I initially added integrations. If it's possible for the problem to be me, since I'm doing this all from the same account (an owner of both groups) I'm all ears! But, I've exhausted every possibility I can think of on my end. Assuming that the error message is descriptive of what's actually happening, I'm left thinking that groups.io can't see those (any?) Facebook pages when I input the URL for some reason (and I've tried using the full URL, with and without trailing slash, just the name slug etc.) Now I'm just really curious as to why this is happening, and why no one else seems to be having this problem.? :) |

It seems you have already encountered (and read) the wiki entry on this topic that I wrote some months ago. The fact that it's almost 2 AM here may have been a factor. :-) Facebook, by default, leaves age and country restrictions turned on for every page. They have to be manually turned off, and few people seem to know how to do that. To this point no one has reported an inability to complete the integration if they follow the previously-provided instructions on a Facebook page that they actually own.? Any suggestions? Thanks!Just because something is visible online does not mean it is in the public domain. If you've gotten a page owner's written permission to cross-post their content, fine...perhaps you can ask them to lift the age and country restrictions, too. Otherwise, please give serious consideration to any legal issues that could arise. Regards, Bruce --? The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |
