Reply to options

Hello all,
I did a search about this question and am still a little confused.
I have a group that is moderated. The posts have to be approved before posting to the group. We have our reply to settings as "Reply to Group and Sender." The Sender will see a Reply preview before it's been moderated, and then often respond before the reply has actually been posted. This is mostly fine but sometimes causes some rapid fire responding on messages that will actually need some moderating.
Is there any Reply To setting which prevents the preview from being sent to the original poster before it's moderated without losing the reply to options that are in the footer of the?email? I think most people in the group just respond via email and not the web interface.
Thank you,
Julie

Re: Upgrading from a Free account to the next level paid account #howto

Brooke,

An owner of my group tried to upgrade our group however an warning
popped up saying they are not a "payor"
Does this relate to your problem:

BUGFIX: If a basic group previously was a premium group with a
different person set as payor, you could not change who was the
payor or upgrade the group.

Maybe only if you had previously tested upgrading the group to Premium.

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

NEW: There is a new activity log entry type, 'Moderator changed
display name'.
In my initial test this seems to have resolved the issue I reported. See also the related changes (below) and the topic in GMF:
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/32540261

BUGFIX: In message search and member activity search, custom date
ranges didn't work correctly if the user had selected a different
date format.
Yay!
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/32701200

BUGFIX: If a basic group previously was a premium group with a
different person set as payor, you could not change who was the
payor or upgrade the group.
Interesting. Maybe the solution to Brook's problem?
/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/32127170

BUGFIX: Fix for weekly event summary emails not being sent out if the
first of the month falls on a Thursday.
LOL!

I did once tell Mark that calendars were the worst sort of "how-hard-could-it-be" trap. Still, this one seem a bit baffling. On beta he said "don't ask".

Comments about these are welcome:

INTERNAL: Work to support the app.
CHANGE: Tweaked the wording of 'Changed display name' activity log
entries to be more clear.
BUGFIX: If someone had changed their display name for a particular
subscription, and then changed their display name through their
overall profile, an activity log was generated incorrectly saying
that the modified display name had been changed, even though it had
not.
BUGFIX: Display name activity log records were generated even when the
display name wasn't changed when editing a member.
CHANGE: In the activity log Actions dropdown, change 'Moderated
message' to 'Sent message requiring approval'.
API: Renamed all instances of sub_id parameters to member_info_id. In
all cases, sub_id will still be accepted to maintain backwards
compatibility.
BUGFIX: Sending invites still worked even when the group was locked.
API: Removed API_KEY requirement for the /login endpoint.
API: Changed the /login endpoint from GET to POST.
NEW: In the sub/resub notification emails, now link to the member
pages of the people who joined.

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Renaming a group seems to not work...

Alberto,

Or when a name has been used in the past, but the group was deleted,
then it is anyway locked forever ?
As far as I know there is no timeout for used names, you have to make a request to [email protected] to have the name unlocked.

Re: Help with corrupt Passwords

Frances,

Shal, can a member use Send me a link, even though they had previously
set a password for their subscription?
Sure.

I use whichever method is more convenient in the moment. On my phone I almost always use a login link, but at desktop I'm more likely to have Password Safe paste my password in for me.

Is there at this point any way to assign the address ?[email protected]? to my group ?winrad-sdr ?whose Title has been already changed to HDSDR ?

Re: Replying From the Owner Email

Peter,

In my case at the bottom of the drop-down is /Customise From Address/
which allows you to write in any address you like.
Learn something new everyday; I'd not noticed that before.

It looks as though groups.io will accept an email when the from
address has been altered; I don't know how it determines that the
message is from a member.
Groups.io matches the exact address part of the field (the part inside the <angle brackets> if there are any). If you modify the Display Name part (to the left of the bracketed part) that wouldn't matter. I don't know about the <john+doe@...> variation, Groups.io might strip any +other part before matching to the Members list.

Re: Renaming a group seems to not work...

Alberto,

Then I tried to change the email address of the group to hdsdr
(@groups.io) but this was refused, saying that that group does not
exist...
Did you leave out any details in that description?

If you changed the name in the Group Email Address box, just below the Title box, and then scrolled down and clicked the Update Group button that should be all that's required. The only likely error at that point is if the name is already in use by another group (or was in use by a group that has now been deleted).

Is that when you saw the "does not exist" error? Or did you get that error when trying to do something else?

Also, relating to Bruce's comment about waiting for nameserver entries to update, does your group have any subgroups? If so there are two boxes for the Group Email Address, one to the left of the @ (which does not involve any nameserver updates) and one to the right of the @ (which does). From what you said I would infer that your group has no subgroups, is that correct?

Re: Help with corrupt Passwords

Peter,

Is it possible to add links, similar to those on the log in page like
/'Forgotten.....' /I wonder?
You can put a link to the login page itself in your group's description, a message, or elsewhere.

Or you can use the link that page takes you to:
/sendloginlink

Is it feasible for a search box to be added to the Directory.
It has been suggested, no word on implementation. You may wish to throw in a comment in support or a Like:

Help with corrupt Passwords

A few of our Members have experienced a problem accessing our web site.

Their Password Manager has somehow screwed up their passwords (!) and when logging in, naturally get an error message.? Is it possible to add links, similar to those on the log in page like 'Forgotten.....'? I wonder?

The Directory

Is it feasible for a search box to be added to the Directory.? It's not easy to locate a member and their details simply be scrolling down - even when its set to infinite etc.

Re: Members' Details

Mick,

On the 25 May 2019 the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) came
into effect in the EU.
As Duane mentioned, Groups.io is aware of GDPR (the question was raised well before May) and has had legal review. Groups.io did modify its privacy policy to be in conformance.
/static/privacy

Other companies, such as Yahoo, do conform by truncating members'
email addresses.
If you mean Yahoo Groups, they too send the member's full email address in the outbound From field, but they do so in the Display Name portion of the field rather than the address portion (which they re-write for DMARC).

In message bodies displayed in the group's web pages Groups.io has an option in the Privacy section of the Settings page to control whether they are masked (truncated) or not.

If you are talking about somewhere else, please explain.
