I created a group but when trying to start a new topic I received this message:

This group has not yet been approved. Once it has been approved, you will be able to post to it.

How long does it take to get approval?

Re: Calendar event reminders not set

All the ¡°plugged in¡± steps were done, but always good questions to ask. The reminder is still visible when I go to edit the event, the reminder just never got sent out. It¡¯s a monthly event so I guess I¡¯ll have to wait until then to see if it works for future events.?

Missing cal-summary emails anyone? #cal-summary

Since the introduction of the feature I've been receiving cal-summary emails at 07:00 each Friday (UK time) - except today when none have been received so far.

I'm not aware of any changes in this area so is anyone else missing their cal-summary emails?

Thanks
Andy

Yes, I reported the same issue to Mark (ticket 9158) in mid June. Mark responded:

Hi Andy,

I've deleted the ghost reminders and am working to fix the bug.

Thanks,
Mark
Hopefully we'll see this on the #changelog soon.

Re: Customizing Invite

Susan,

Anyway to save the custom version?
Yes. In fact you can save multiple versions to choose from.

On the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page create one or more notices of type Invite.

For awhile my custom text was saved with the invite. Now it is not so
I have to redo everytime I send invite.
On the Invite page there is now a drop-list below the text box in the Customize Message section. Select one of your saved notices, and then modify it if desired. The modifications will not be saved unless you copy/paste them back on the Member Notices tabs.

== ==

Yes Bruce, that was my intent. But of course it's only the hashtag that would vanish and the post(s) that carried that hashtag would remain in place, but just no longer flagged with the hashtag.

In my case I'd only be using one certain hashtag which would only be dedicated for use with a particular repeating post. There are about three separate announcements on our group that post monthly, but on different dates fom each other. So we would be using 3 or 4 distinct hashtags (lets say perhaps 'W', 'X', 'Y' and 'Z') sometime at the same time together and other times at different (discontinuous) times.

Shal pointed out that I could use a hashtag to search for all post(s) with a particular hashtag and manually remove the hashtag from them. I tried this out and found several (4) of one hashtag (lets say hashtag 'X' here) that I had missed from some months back. But when deleting them that way it was fairly clumsy because each 'X-flagged' post neeeded to be deleted separately and when it was deleted the search ended and another search was required to bring up the remaining 3 'X-flagged' posts again, so they had to be deleted one at a time, re-doing the same search 3 more times. (Or maybe I'm overlooking something that would have allowed the removal of all 4 hashtags 'X' in one swell foop!)

So it still seems to me that it would be useful to have such a time-limiting hashtag feature that one could select that would eliminate having to manually locate a post and delete its hashtag.

Paul M.

Andy,

I think one reminder is enough :-)

Me too.
When Mark added the "Upcoming Event: " to the subject line for reminders, I changed GMF's repeating event to use a notification instead of a reminder. And indeed, the event currently shows No reminders set.

So this would appear to be a bug, very likely related to the one reported recently by Tamara [GMF #17966].

Re: Group name change doesn't fully propagate #subgroups

Shaun,

I recently changed the name of my group from "marsdev" to "marssettlement". One of my members is reporting the following:

"The subscription replies are directing me towards the old names.
So when I reply to reach 'design' for example, there is an error message."

Of course.

Messages sent before the name change now reside in the member's email system can't be updated (by Groups.io). So the reply-to address and any links in the message footer will now be out of date.

Also out of date will be any bookmarks (favorites), address book entries, and autocompletes that are tucked away in the member's browser and/or email interface.

If you change the name of a group there can be a delay while DNS changes are propagated? There are a number of things to consider before renaming though and the details are given in the Wiki at /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group

Re: GMF Subscription

No need to do anything, Mick.? This calendar event is used instead of the Guidelines because it contains additional information.? It was set up before there even was a guidelines auto-send option and seems to work better for this group.

Re: Hashtag Editing Options

Paul,

Any created / established hashtag could be set to disappear from the
subject line of a post leavng the post behind.
Note that hashtags apply to topics, not to the individual messages within a topic. But that distinction is moot if there are no replies to the initial post.

Of course any one particualr hashtag named 'X' could only be used for
one post effectively, i.e., if two posts carried that same 'X' hashtag
at the same time and it was set to expire in 1 week, then all posts
flagged with that same hashtag would vanish simultaneously.
I think it would be more sensible if it worked the same way the existing Topic Duration option works: each hashtagged topic would lose that hashtag after the set duration from the initial post in that topic. That way the same hashtag could be used for multiple topics independently.

BTW . . . This option should certainly be for Moderator Only use.
There's already a "Use by Mods Only" hashtag option, I don't see a need for this to be forced if the proposed Hashtag Duration option is used.

Having self-ending hashtags would simplify having to remember to go
locate a post when the time came to delete its hashtag.
Even without a self-ending feature, using a specific hashtag for those posts would make it easy to quickly find the ones that need to be edited; just click on the hashtag on the Hashtag page.

Re: Calendar event reminders not set

Tamara,

I added a repeating event awhile ago with a reminder set for 1 day.
This reminder seems to work. Later I added a 1 week reminder and hit
¡°Update Event¡±. However this reminder did not ever get sent when the
event came up again.
First an "is it plugged in" question: did the reminder post in the group's Messages section? If so, ignore the rest of this reply.

Another "is it plugged in": when you clicked Update Event a pop-up should have offered you buttons for Only This Event or All Events. Did you select All Events? If not, ignore the rest of this reply.

Is the second reminder listed if you edit the event at the date/time when it was not sent? How about later occurrences? I tested this in my test group and the later occurrences seem to update correctly. I don't know if the second reminder would be sent.

I don't know if this item from a year ago is relevant:
BUGFIX: Fixed a problem with repeating event reminders that could
cause some of them to not be sent.

Possibly the problem has come back or you've found a new form of it. Either way, if the edit doesn't "stick", or if the second reminder is showing but not sent, I think that would be something to report to [email protected] as a bug.

Do you want to be able to reuse the hashtag without re-creating it??Do you

It would be a setting for all hashtags, Bruce, a setting that could be chosen for a particular hashtag (or for different hashtags) but not for others.

Any created / established hashtag could be set to disappear from the subject line of a post leavng the post behind.

But a hashtag so designated would still remain in the list of created hastags afterward so it could be used again.

Any of the hashtags when chosen could be set to end/disappear independently of any other hashtag and there could be several options, as I mentioned earlier, for them to endure, say for 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, etc. and one of those options could be used on any existing hashtag (or not) as one desired.

The selection of how long a hashtag should persist should be independent for any other used hashtag. Of course any one particualr hashtag named 'X' could only be used for one post effectively, i.e., if two posts carried that same 'X' hashtag at the same time and it was set to expire in 1 week, then all posts flagged with that same hashtag would vanish simultaneously.

Note that it is already possible to manually delete a hashtag and have it
disappear from the subject line of affected posts.
Yes Dusne, and manually deleting several particular hashtags each month is what I've been doing on my group with about three or four repeating posts that occur on a regular or periodic basis.

Having self-ending hashtags would simplify having to remember to go locate a post when the time came to delete its hashtag.

OK hope this clarifies my suggestion.
