Andy, I think one reminder is enough :-) Me too. When Mark added the "Upcoming Event: " to the subject line for reminders, I changed GMF's repeating event to use a notification instead of a reminder. And indeed, the event currently shows No reminders set. So this would appear to be a bug, very likely related to the one reported recently by Tamara [GMF #17966].
