Re: having trouble with invite message

I need to start over with my default invite message...it seems to be repetitive. Help!

Re: having trouble with invite message

You can only add to the default message, not delete any of it.

Re: Test Groups

Marcio,

Looking briefly in the group I saw what I'll call a Wordpress
integration, showing a few posts of a blog. I don't know where to look
to know how it's done so if I may ask, how it can be done?
It is an iframe element that I pasted into the Source Code view of the Description edit box. I think that iframe code was copied from somewhere on Wordpress, equivalent to Groups.io's Promote page, where they give you sample code to paste into other web pages. I'm a bit vague on this because I did it a long time ago, and a coworker of mine gave me the code (he admins the Wordpress blog).

In retrospect I'm a bit surprised that worked. I thought iframes were among the things that get stripped by the editor. But maybe not for Descriptions, or maybe not back when I did that.

Shal,
no content there is "sacred". If an experiment destroys the content, or even the whole group, no real harm done. If necessary, I'll just create ShalsTest2.
It's really good to know it. for now, I'm being just a beholder. But it's indeed nice to know that we could experiment with "no real harm done". Although this is a test group, I was a bit afraid of doing something wrong, if I ever need to test something.

If the owner/moderator has set the hashtags to Special, they can't be muted.? You might ask them why they've set them this way, if that's what has happened.

Be careful marking things as junk.? On some email services that equates to marking them as spam and could get you unsubscribed.? I don't believe it applies within some clients, such as Thunderbird, but is not a good habit to get into.

The only difference is what you call it and what you use it for; a Test Group is simply a Group set up - almost certainly with only a handful of members - with the purpose of "playing" with Groups.io's capabilities to investigate how things work and sometimes don't. A group set up for test purposes has exactly the same functionality as a "working" group. It is somewhere its members can try things without disrupting a working group, usually so that whatever is learnt / discovered can be used for the better running of a proper group.

I hope that makes sense...

Why do Mute not work. #cal-reminder #cal-notice

OH6NT

I am a subscriber on another list where meetings etc. are regularly noted in the calendar.
I'm NOT a manager of that list. I don't want those messages; I live too far away from the "HQ"
I have muted #cal-notice and #cal-reminder on that list, but the messages keep coming.
Why, and what can I do about it as a subscriber? As per now, they are considered junk in my mail client...

Re: Test Groups

Peter,

For example I didn't know about Test Groups. I still don't know what
the difference is.
The only difference is the intent of the users.

I created ShalsTest simply for my own edification. Same as you, I wanted a "playground" where I could try arbitrary things without affecting members of a "real" group.

I've accepted others into ShalsTest who share that common motive. Mostly for their convenience, but also because sometimes I learn from their experiments. As Brian said, no content there is "sacred". If an experiment destroys the content, or even the whole group, no real harm done. If necessary, I'll just create ShalsTest2.

Re: Test Groups

When I first decided to create a group on groups.io in order to get rid of a group on yahoo, I simply created a private one and experimented with the things I knew I wanted to do©¤invite members, approve messages and so on.? Eventually I will simply delete the group when it has no further use (pretty well now!).? However reading messages to this group makes me realise there is a whole lot more we can do with groups here, so I read and learn.? For example I didn't know about Test Groups.? I still don't know what the difference is.

Re: False virus detection for uploads

David,

I am trying to upload a paper to my group that I wrote on my machine.
io says it detects a virus. It absolutely DOES NOT!!
Looks like your report was heard (assuming you reported it):

"It appears there was a mistake in today's update of the anti-virus
scanner that we use, clamav. It was incorrectly marking a lot of files
as having a virus. Others have seen the same. I've disabled that
particular virus signature for now."

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the
changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new
topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

CHANGE: Groups can now have multiple active welcome messages.
Handy if you have more than one topic to present to new members, I suppose. Though I think it could be off-putting if overdone.

Comments about these are welcome:

CHANGE: Previously, members couldn't vote in polls in announcement
groups. Now the announcement setting has no effect on whether
someone can vote in a poll.
CHANGE: Changed wording/color of the button to expand/collapse quoted
message parts.
INTERNAL: Added the ability to re-write the From lines of emails from
specific domains, as we already do with DMARC, to hopefully fix a
delivery issue with samsung.com
CHANGE: Added additional text to the Repost Message item in the More
menu, describing when you can next repost the message.
BUGFIX: When paging through member search results for a query that
includes a special character (like @), the query was not properly
unescaped.
BUGFIX: Changed how we pull messages from the database during a group
export to decrease the load on the database as well as increase
reliability of the operation.
BUGFIX: For groups requiring hashtags, posting on the website didn't
display an error when you tried to post without a hashtag.
SYSADMIN: Replaced all webserver instances to fix a kernel issue.
Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Test Groups

Marcio

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Brian,
So, how do I can join to this group? I'll try it as well, even having created my own test group.

Also, I think it would be good to make refference to the Shalstest group in some of this group's Wiki page. I'm sure I'm not the only person interested on something like that and someone else may well benefit from it.

Cheers,

Re: False virus detection for uploads

About all you can do is send your information to [email protected] to see if they can figure out what happened.? I'd want to be 100% sure there really wasn't a virus inserted by a program on my computer before complaining though.? Maybe try testing the file at one of the online virus sites.

Re: False virus detection for uploads

Contact [email protected]?with a copy of the file attached, if possible [I can't remember whether those get stripped when going to the support address], or including a link to same in the message.

You should also run that file through virustotal.com to see which scanning engines are saying it has a virus.? I have no idea what scanner Groups.io uses, but you'll probably have a much better idea of which scanner might be the culprit if only one or a handful return a false positive while the rest declare the file clean.? You could then mention those results in your support e-mail message as well.

Re: Test Groups

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Bruce,
Thanks, always helpful answers :)
I guess I'll stick with the choice of creating my own test group. I thought of just creating a subgroup on my group but maybe it's not my best choice, so I'd better off creating another from scratch.
