Blue bounce symbol
Bob Cook
One of my members is complaining about not getting emails. His provider is Cox.?
I looked and he had a blue B symbol, but the only error message I could find was a general message that it was a system error which I believe just means the message was delivered and I assume Cox rejected it.? Note, other Cox.net users are not bouncing.? How can I get a more detailed error report giving the rejection code? How can I resolve this? Any help/ideas appreciated.? Thanks, Bob |

Barry,
I've seen referenced here in the GMF a "beta group" but I'm not clear It has unrestricted membership and public archives, much like GMF. The real question behind the above is how we make platform suggestionsBeta is the official "suggestion box" for proposing & discussing improvements to Groups.io as a service. Re: Is there a way to find out if someone is already subscribed to a different group
To answer davew,
I know much more about her than most group owners do about applicants prior to they are included in this group.? We vet members thoroughly because of the sensitivity of personal info that is discussed. Yes, I could call her by phone rather than correspond by email My question had nothing to do with invasion of privacy, it was simply wanting to know if there was any way to define whether she was a member of any other group without even know what group. You really shouldn't jump to conclusions without asking for enough info to make a judgement. Shal, thank you for answering.? You can lock or delete this topic if you wish before it gets out of hand. -- Bob |

Are owners/Moderators notified when someone resubscribes
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWe had a member that was unsubscribed due to the SPAM filter and was rather upset over it. If a member uses the link sent to re -subscribe will owners/moderators be notified so that we can put them on moderation or will they be given the same privileges that they had before the SPAM filter unsubscribed them? ? Thanks, Ken ? 2Ch 7:14 ¡°If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their
sin, and will heal their land.¡± ? |

This is a small thing but, as a new groups.io manager, just something I haven't yet come across. ?I've seen referenced here in the GMF a "beta group" but I'm not clear whether group owners have access to that (or should/shouldn't have access) or where it is? Did see a "public beta" group but with fewer than 70 members so I'm guessing that's not it. The real question behind the above is how we make platform suggestions if those are wanted/valued? ?Maybe just here on the GMF and Shal or Bruce decide whether to send on to Mark? |

Am I missing something in the screenshots?? ?I do not see where the posterid number is obtained.? Even looking at my own profile on the groups I moderate (and where I know I have "grand poobah" permissions) I am somehow not seeing posterid (and I checked the URL when in the profile, too).

Duane, Back in the dark ages (late '14, early '15) of , anyone could do that very thing.? When you clicked on someone's User Name (not Display Name) it would take you to their site profile page and showed all groups they were a member of.
Right, I'd forgotten about that.
But even so that was (I believe) a voluntary thing: a user would create a User Name specifically to allow other users to see their (account) profile and group memberships.
I'm sure there's some discussion about that on beta@ that got it changed. As I recall, some group moderators were very much against allowing their group members to participate in that kind of "social network" function (there's that overreach thing again).

Re: strange messages sent to old YG group

davew,
?
Email spoofing (pretendinh it was you who sent it) / SPAM and SCAM trojan phishing is rife. ?
Who said anything about spoofing? The messages I've received from QQ users are not spoofed. A bit misguided, maybe spammy (advertising), but not misleading.
?
?
My own domain has been scanned and I'm getting hostage/ extortion emails. Luckily I can 'dispose' of these. ?
Yeah, I've received some of those, as have my coworkers. Those are spoofed to be "From" oneself. The claims about my online behavior are crazy enough to clue me in that the sender has no actual knowledge of anything other than my email address. I guess they're hoping they'll scare some people into paying them.
?
?
Every one [of these emails] should be sent (with full headers exposed) to the FTC care of ''. ?
Too late now (for the one's I've received), but another good place to report actual spam / abuse is but they don't take messages that have been forwarded (as in messages to a group or group+owner), only those that arrive directly to your email.

Re: Is there a way to find out if someone is already subscribed to a different group
Davew, Actually Shal I'd say it would be an offense! I think it would rise to that level only if one could identify which other group(s). I think Bob meant "one or more other groups" without identifying specific groups. However, even that would be a (much more minor) privacy leak. The question at hand revolved around whether the applicant could have already set up a Groups.io account (and password). The answer to that is "yes, without regard to having joined any other groups". I'm horrified by 'some' of the invasive demands 'some' group owners make for features. In the case at hand I (the mod) think you've construed way to much into Bob's question. As a general statement I concur that some of the suggestions I've read in strike me as attempts at overreach / micromanagement by the group owners. (They do not respond by the way- this is simply a 'collector' address). Trashing and bouncing at the mail system IS the most effective control. Re: Is there a way to find out if someone is already subscribed to a different group
Bob, But she insists that she "went and got a login and password and when she tried to get into the group" She may have. and said she was "taken back to the form she had already filled out" I'm not sure what form she means, perhaps her Subscription form for your group (if she became a Pending member)? Is there a way to verify if she was already in another group or can anyone just go and set up a login and password for ? One can set up a Groups.io account without being in the join flow for any groups. Just going to the site's home page and using the Sign Up link will accomplish that. I don't think you (a group admin) can find out whether someone is a member of other groups. That would be a kind of privacy bug if you could.
