So I noticed that Ashley does not have the ¡°P¡± emblem that says can post (see below).? What do I need to do to allow her to post and email?

Check this - in Settings, scroll down to Message Policies.
Make sure Allow Non Subscribers to Post

Posts by non-subscribers will be moderated, instead of rejected.

This allows that specific post to be delivered to your group members. It doesn't make them a group member.

Re: Possibility to merge two email addresses?

Your last suggestion nails it. It has a hashtag (post from Facebook) that is moderated!

Thanks for wading through my blather. I'll share this info with the other moderators of my group!

Thanks Shal!

I actually did have that selected.? This is contact is actually a member of the group so I¡¯m not sure why we can¡¯t receive her messages.

Emails from New Members

I am trying to add members to the group forum.? Once I approve their their invitation I am changing their moderation to "Override: not moderated".? I am still unable to receive emails from outside parties.? Is there another step I am missing?

Thank you for letting us know how the problem was resolved.? Many times there's no closure of a topic because once it's fixed, the original poster is happy and forgets to let us know what was found.? Glad all is well now and it should prevent others from running into the same situation.

I tried the widescreen when first opening up FF, then went to the group, and then did a reply.?

No joy.?

I did a little more experimenting.? It seems that once you have the buttons at the bottom - Messages, New Topic, More - you won't see the entire toolbar.? On an Android tablet, portrait, buttons, no bar.? Same tablet, landscape, no buttons, all is well.? Looks like it's all because your screen is too narrow, assuming your screenshot is landscape.

Re: Possibility to merge two email addresses?

Chromatest,

Why is requesting permission to post from an email address that is not mentioned anywhere in the headers?

Because a message from G* (the alias) is treated as being from B* (the subscription address).

But.... what's changed?? I've been posting to the list right along and nothing has changed on my end.. Why all of a sudden am I getting moderation messages on myself?

That I don't know. Things to check:
  • It could be that B*'s Posting Privileges require moderation in that group.
  • It could be that B*'s Posting Privileges in that group defer to the Group Moderation Setting, and it requires Moderation.
  • It could be that B*'s address is not subscribed to the group, but the group allows non-subscriber posts.
  • It could be that the message is a reply to a topic that requires moderation.
  • It could be that the message has a #hashtag in its Subject that requires moderation.
A take-away from that list is that ownership of the group has nothing to do with whether message posts are moderated.

Re: Possibility to merge two email addresses?

Chromatest J. Pantsmaker

Okay, now this is really weird.

As I was logged into groups.io with one of the group owner accounts, I posted the message.? This was using the groups.io web interface, not by sending email.

I *STILL* got a moderation email requesting me to approve it, which I finally did.

Any ideas?

Re: Possibility to merge two email addresses?

I'm revisiting this because I'm getting some strange behavior. I have three primary email addresses, each from a different domain, all three able to be sent "FROM" from the same gmail login.

Earlier today, I replied to a message on a group that I own and I got a bounce/moderation message for that. The moderation message was for one of my addresses, but NOT from the one that I posted as. I deleted that message and tried a couple more times, making sure I was posting from the correct account. I was. Finally, I tried again and BCC'd a totally unrelated email address so I could look at the headers. The address in the moderation message was nowhere in the headers.

More info: The group is owned by chromatest@B* _and_ chromatest@C* The gmail account I'm logged into and sending email from is chromatest@G* which is a groups.io alias of chromatest@B* The account that I'm trying to post FROM is chromatest@C*

So, I'm sending an email (a reply to a post) from an email address which is a groups.io group owner using a gmail account which is a groups.io alias of another group owner account. The moderation message is requesting permission to post as chromatest@B*, which is a group owner and shouldn't be moderated. The members list shows it as owner and not NuM.

So... does anybody understand what I'm saying here? Any idea how to fix it?

Why is groups.io requesting permission to post from an email address that is not mentioned anywhere in the headers?

Oh.. I just had an idea. The two email addresses in the header is the @C* and the @G*. The @G* is a groups.io alias to @B*, so maybe that's where it's getting it.

But.... what's changed? I've been posting to the list right along and nothing has changed on my end.. Why all of a sudden am I getting moderation messages on myself?

You should be IN the folder after you click on it.? Look at the 'breadcrumb' information at the top of the page to see exactly where you are - groupname/Files/xxx/foldername.? I just tried moving some directories around using a test group and all worked well.

Hi Kevin and Anita.

Kevin - do you know if there is there such a link to Yahoo groups? I've spent hours trying to hack my way in using yahoo Help, but no success.

My access has been blocked since before Christmas when I tried to change my email address - and I own the Group!

Shal is waiting to work on this for me, (I'm still very busy at the moment, Shal), but I just found your posting.

Strangely, I can still post messages, but only if I reply if I reply to a member's posting, and I can't contact a pink at yahoo without paying them money - and then it may be that I cannot restore my account anyway - ie it's terminal.

I can't enter or open any section of the group.

Re: Email delivery advanced preferences #subscription #suggestion

Frances,

?
I am puzzled why someone can select both Special Notices only and Advanced Preferences. ... But shouldn't that not be a possibility?
?
The Email Delivery choices only control group posts that are sent to your subscription address.
?
The Message Selection choices affect that, but also control the message filtering in your /topics home page, and hopefully one day filtered options for viewing messages in individual groups' web pages. Perhaps the text box in that section should mention the web utility these preferences have. Excluding Max Attachment Size, which is only for email. *sigh*
?
?
I seem to have a couple of people (young adept web users) who have selected both these options.
?
They may have just been testing things, or they may actually be taking advantage of the /topics home page to follow multiple groups.
?
And secondly, I wish that Advanced Preferences was more integrated with Email Delivery radio buttons.?
Could it be moved up, before Signature, right after Email Delivery?
?
As I recall, the original reaction (in beta) to the Message Selection options (and Replies) was that they would be intimidating to ordinary users. So not only were they segregated into their own section, Advanced Preferences, but that section was made a drop-open that is closed by default.
?
I could see an argument for moving Max Attachment Size out of Advanced Preferences and up in the Email Delivery section. It really seems to belong there, even if some may think it too "advanced" for novice users.
?
I don't really have a strong feeling about moving (the rest of) Advanced Preferences up ahead of Signature. There is some logic to that, though both those sections apply to posts in both email and web.
?
?
I am asking here to test the waters and get suggestions before I post on Beta.
?
I think Mark would thank you for that.

Email delivery advanced preferences #subscription #suggestion

Hi

I am puzzled why someone can select both Special Notices only and Advanced Preferences.
There is a note saying Please note: If you have selected Special Notices Only, the below preferences will not override that.
But shouldn't that not be a possibility? I seem to have a couple of people (young adept web users) who have selected both these options.

And secondly, I wish that Advanced Preferences was more integrated with Email Delivery radio buttons.?
Could it be moved up, before Signature, right after Email Delivery?
