hashtags and notices sent to group owners
Good morning! I have two questions. Yesterday, a member of one of my groups sent a message to the group owner email address. The group has multiple owners, but at least one of the owners never received the message (me!). I have looked at the settings, and I think everything is set correctly, and have received owner notices in the past, so I am very confused. Any ideas on what could be wrong? My second question is regarding hashtags. I have a member notice set to go out every month - and this morning it went out, at least I received the message to my personal email address, but in the activity list it says: "Thread "Message Delivery Options for a Groups.Io Group" was deleted because of an expired hashtag." I do not use hashtags because our group has no need for them, and I have no idea what all this means, because I do not remember setting one up to begin with. Can anyone advise me? Thanks! Patti |

Listing multi-day calendar events as a single item
#calendar
Hello,
I have recently set up a group for my local mountaineering club. We have a calendar of activities/ trips which the club is running/ which members may be interested in attending which is currently hosted on Google Calendars. I maintain the online version while our newsletter editor manually notes down the individual events to go in a calendar for the newsletter (there are a substantial number of members who do not own computers). I would like to find a way in which the newsletter editor can get a list of events for the next 6 months (this is an arbitrary number) automatically from our online calendar. I have had a bit of a play with the groups.io calendar with a view to transferring our calendar to groups.io, however when I ask the calendar to list events it treats every day of a multi-day activity as an individual event which will make the newsletter far longer (we typically have 3 weekends away each month and a week long trip every other month) which would increase postage and printing costs for the club (it also looks rubbish having a single event showing up 7 times). Is there some way in which I can get the calendar to allow me to list multi-day events as a single item please? Thanks in advance, Spenser Gray Oread Mountaineering Club Meet Secretary |

Re: Bounce probe question . . .
#bouncedemails
Gerald,
There may some context that I am not aware of, but IMHO "account" isAccount is correct usage for referring to the member's email address, and everything connected to it, at Groups.io. You log in using your email address, it is the ID for your account. nor is any inference that there is any problem with groups.io.No, not with the service itself, but your account at Groups.io has "bouncing" or "bounced" status - meaning that Groups.io has stopped sending group messages to you, and won't resume until you act on a bounce probe (the message we're discussing). It is the user's email inbox that is bouncing.No. It is the user's email service (inbox) that has rejected (bounced) messages from Groups.io. But it most likely is still accepting messages from other sources, and it may only be intermittently rejecting messages from Groups.io. So it is not correct to say that the user's inbox "is bouncing" or has a "status" of some kind or has a problem. At most we can say that it has bounced some message(s) from Groups.io "Your account was or is full" should be "Your email inbox was or isAgreed. "Subject" should be "Your email inbox is bouncing"Disagree, per above. "Your account at Groups.io has been set to bouncing status" might be more correct, but I don't think it is really any clearer. Re: Delayed request for moderator approval
Michael,
I got a request for moderation just now and approved it BUT thatMost likely your email service greylisted the notification. If you know how to view the full header of that notification email you can paste a copy in this tool to extract the dates/times at which it was handled by various servers on its way to you. That isn't likely to be conclusive: the symptom of greylisting is that there's a large delay at the hop from Groups.io to your service; which you might interpret as Groups.io not sending it or your service not being ready to receive it until after that delay. Another thing to check would be the Bounce History page in your Groups.io Account. If you have bounces with a reason mentioning a delay or deferral those would be instances where the message actually failed reaching you due to your email service delaying or deferring the message too much. Re: Bounce probe question . . .

Chris,
My point was based on the assumption (probably a mistake!) that theThat's what took me so many reads to figure out. In my head the word "account" was so firmly tied to Groups.io account that I didn't even notice that one bullet that implied otherwise. Note that "bouncing status" refers to Groups.io's bounce tracking mechanism (which applies the blue "bouncing" or red "bounced" status to a member's row in the Members table). It does not refer to anything happening at his/her email service. At the member's email service the cause of messages being rejected (bounced) may or may not be properly describable as a "status" - there are just too many different reasons and mechanisms in use by the various email services to say much concrete about why they did it. A full inbox or a discontinued account might be described as a status, but things like authentication issues, over-zealous spoof detection, or blacklisting have to do with the service's evaluation of messages specifically from Groups.io, they aren't a status of the member's email service account (which may be receiving messages from other sources just fine). Chris,
Assuming, that is, that there is some agreement with my view that theIt took me several reads to spot a source of confusion. The first line is sort of OK, but look at the second; it implies thatThose are one and the same thing. The one possible source of confusion I see is the line "- You account was or is full" That's a reference to your email Inbox, and is the only time "account" is used in the wrong context (that is, not the context of the Subject line: "You're Groups.io Account is Bouncing"). So it should probably be changed to say email Inbox rather than use the word account. Not only was that incorrect, but it completely freaked out one of my subscribers...who subsequently forwarded it to my group, prompting all kinds of loose talk along the lines of "why did we ever leave Yahoo," etc. I had a terrible time convincing everybody that the only difference was that groups.io actually notifies you that there is a problem (vs. silently failing to deliver group messages). ? To unbounce your account, go to the following link: /unbounce?email=yourname@...&cookie=1234567890123456789 The first line is sort of OK, but look at the second; it implies that the link will "unbounce" the account, when in fact it will restore deliveries to the account email address. Unbouncing the account has to be accomplished under the instructions in line 1. To me it seems that the word "account" has been used in 2 different contexts; in line 1 in the context of email account, whereas in line 2 the context is the subscriber's Groups.io account. Re: Does anyone know why the topics-test page isn't working
Bill, Leeni,
In retrospect I should have broken out my reply in beta as a New Topic, since it is a suggestion different from (though related to) the bulk delete feature. That would help Mark keep track of things. If you follow up with that as a request, I suggest you make it a New Topic and cite the bulk delete topic rather than reply to it. Re: Does anyone know why the topics-test page isn't working
I agree 100% with everything you say about groups.io! It might be worth posting a request to the beta list to ask if Mark could include something like the Google Groups archive viewing options in the Privacy section of group settings, although downstream I see that Shal has posted on this topic, to which I've now added the Google info. -- Bill On 3/31/2019 12:04 AM, Leeni wrote:
