Re: Speaking of Wiki

Hi Bill and Marie,

A wiki is?a website that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users. A wiki is a Web site that allows users to add and update content on the site using their own Web browser. This is made possible by Wiki software that runs on the Web server. Wikis end up being created mainly by a collaborative effort of the site visitors

The most common is Wikipedia which says that the purpose is to benefit readers by acting as an encyclopedia.

There is a wiki function for each group. For Group Managers Forum, it is a series of help pages.
In my personal Group, I used it with my sisters to plan a cruise and excursions in our ports of call.

Check out the GMF wiki -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki

Have you actually tried zooming out? Or is your text already as small as
you can make it?

Your first screen shot looks like the ending drag handle is misplaced or
something. That seems like a bug to report to [email protected], if you
haven't already. Beta isn't for bugs.

The bit with the editing tool buttons is a little less clear-cut, but Su
has reported it as a bug so we'll see what happens.

Please keep in mind the hashtag work-around that we discussed several months ago:?

-- In group Settings, under Message Policies, check the box for Hashtags Required.
-- Set Hashtag Permissions to "Posts by subscribers can only be tagged with existing hashtags, otherwise the message is bounced."
-- Create ONE hashtag for the group and set its Topic Duration to one hour, and
-- Train everyone who is allowed to post to apply the hashtag every time.*

I believe?others have written asking?about that feature as well.
They have...but it seems Mark is disinclined to provide that functionality (i.e.: "the system wasn't really designed for that type of usage").

Good luck,

*Hmmm...another option I just thought of would be to set up an email integration for the group. You could then set the #email hashtag to delete the topic after one hour and just retrain everybody to post to the integration address.

Re: Asking for help (was Re: [GMF] Prevent including whole previousmessage?)

Ales,

Like i say i was asking if i can connect Sendiio autoresponder in
Funnels Freaks and how to create squeeze page in Funnels Freaks
Neither of those seem to have to do with Groups.io.

I think you still need to find the right place to ask, this isn't it.

It¡¯s frustrating cuz I didn¡¯t get a vote on choosing IOG and there¡¯s BASIC functionality that¡¯s lacking (doesn¡¯t matter which I use, safari or chrome) that needs to be fixed instead of effin around with crap like a FEED. Ditto on editing of wiki pages. Just basic stuff that NEEDS to be fixed. ?Sometimes I think folks who write code need to have a user permanently attached to their shoulder to when necessary slap em upside the head and say WTF u doin?

Re: Prevent including whole previous message?

Su,

I am wondering whether there is a setting to prevent the whole
previous post (or string of posts) being included in replies.
As Duane said, nothing automatic; just member training.

Or moderation. You may notice that messages here on GMF sometimes have at the bottom a note: [excess quote trimmed by moderator]
That's what that's all about.

For people replying via the group's web site the opposite problem occurs: no quote is included unless the member selects what to quote before clicking Reply, or uses the formatting button to insert the entire message as a quote.

It's especially bad for people receiving digests I think?
There are a couple places with automatic mitigations, and Digest is one place. The system attempts to recognize and trim off bottom-quotes rather than have them clutter the Digest.

Reading on the web site is another. If the system detects a bottom-quote in a message then it displays a little blue ... button instead of the quote. Click the button to show/hide the quote.

Alas, those of us reading individual emails have to just soldier through. Fortunately, bottom quotes are usually easy enough to skip in an email interface: next message.

Re: repeated bounces

Jan,

why are my IO accounts continually bouncing???
When logged in to Groups.io click on your name (upper right corner) and select Account from the menu.

In the list on the left click Recent Bounces.

The Reason column will tell you what your email service said when it rejected delivery of messages from your groups. If you need help understanding what it means, please post it here and we'll see if anyone in GMF can interpret it.

See also:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/dealing-with-bouncing
/static/help#bouncing

Others using your email service have reported (in beta) having issues with messages being rejected, but not in the last six months or so that I recall.

Re: Prevent including whole previous message?

There's currently nothing that can do this automatically, though it is on the TODO list -

As part of the Guidelines I have set up for several of my groups, I have one that says, "When replying to a message, don't include any more of the original message than is required to identify what you are responding to and no more than one previous message at most.? In most cases, no previous messages are needed because the reply will go into the thread in the order received.? Those of you using 'smart devices' will need to learn how to delete extraneous information.? There are still some of us that don't have unlimited, high speed internet access, so please be considerate."? We also have a Wiki page that explains Trimming Message Clutter.

Prevent including whole previous message?

I am wondering whether there is a setting to prevent the whole previous post (or string of posts) being included in replies.

What is happening is that some people's email clients are adding on reply after reply and eventually each message that is sent to the group is a huge concatenation of all that. It's especially bad for people receiving digests I think?

Can these be cut off or is it up to each person to reply in a "nice" way?

Thanks,
Su

Re: Problems editing Wiki or Messages on Mobil Devices

Gerald,

Maybe Mark could be coerced into doing an auto-wrap
instead of a truncate on the toolbars.
I'd be happy if he could be coerced into using the available width better. That might mean making individual decisions about which buttons to include, rather than lopping off a large batch of them at once.

Gerald Boutin

Sorry, I can't help you with iOS editing. I barely know enough about Androids to be able to fumble together a two line text message in an emergency.

We've already gone over the limitations of the narrow toolbar on narrow screen devices. Maybe Mark could be coerced into doing an auto-wrap instead of a truncate on the toolbars.

Re: Custom footer for individual conversation threads #question

Samuel G,

Background: I am facilitating conversation among a closed group of
individuals; however all the conversation will take place within 7-8
threads.

Or are there other options I haven't yet visualized?
One of the other options is to subdivide the conversations by subgroup.
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Why-use-a-Subgroup
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Subgroups

Each subgroup will have its own address and home page, and could have its own footer and its own subject tag in email and sticky note or pinned message(s) on the web.

Yes; probably lots of them.

However, if the options you are looking for are not available in the Settings pages, then they are... not available.

Re: 550 Rejected by header based Anti-Spoofing policy

Samuel M,

If I understand correctly, then, we would be able to avoid these
bounce messages by simply setting her account not to send her a copy
of her own mails. Is there such a setting (i.e.: do not send me my
own mails)?
No.

Since it is only her own posts going back to her that are bouncing it sounds like what she needs is the Gmail-style From re-writing.

That's not something that there is a user control for, Mark is trying to handle it on a domain-wide basis so that all users of such a domain get the benefit once the domain is identified.

I think that still leaves her with two options.

1) Go through her email service's procedure to set a "bypass" for that spoof blocking. That has the advantage that she'll receive her own messages with her email address intact in the From field (but that's a rather slim advantage).

2) Contact [email protected] and ask to have her accounts handled in the fashion of Gmail users: re-write the From field for one's own messages only. This has the minor disadvantage that she would see her own messages as being From: user@... but would have the likely advantage of benefiting every user of domain1 and domain2. It is also simpler for her to achieve (one email message versus whatever rigamarole).

I'm not sure if these bounces are dangerous in the long run.
Not really dangerous, but they may be inconvenient. Particularly if they are keeping her account in Bouncing status: that would block her from participation in the group until she un-bounces each time.
