Re: Multiple addresses for members?
Chris,
You cannot, as moderator, but they can set an Email Alias in their Account settings. Tell them to go to their Account page and open up the Advanced Settings For Email Aliases section on that page. The Email Alias address will not show up with its own entry in your Members list, nor will it receive any notices or email from the group. But if the member uses an Email Alias address to post to the group that message will be handled as a message from that member (same as if they sent from their subscription address). Invitation questions
I sent an invitation to a new free email address of mine. This is the Invitation message it received:
| Subject: Invitation to join the <groupname>@groups.io email group Shouldn't this be "<groupname>.groups.io"? (and again in the message body)? Message body: | Hello <emailaddress>@outlook.com, | | You have been invited by <me> to join the Groups.io group <groupname>@groups.io. | | The following message was included by <me>: | | <my custom message> | | If you have questions about this invitation, send them to <groupname>[email protected]. | | To accept the invitation, please reply to this email, or you may accept the invitation on the website. | | If you are not interested, or if <emailaddress>@outlook.com is not your email address, please ignore this email. | | Cheers, | The Groups.io Team "accept the invitation" was a clickable link to the <groupname>.groups.io website which make sense, however at the bottom of the Invitation there were 3 confusing and unexplained 'buttons': "Thank you for the invite." , "Thank you for the invitation." , and "Can you please add me?" What are these 3 unexplained 'buttons', what is the difference between them, and where do they go? |
Multiple addresses for members?
I have several group members who use >1 email address, and the one they signed up with is not the default their email uses to send. Is there any mechanism by which I can associate multiple email addresses with their membership? Chris R. ====== Not to be taken literally, internally, or seriously. Twitter: |
Re: bouncing
I hope this replies to the group. It was confusing h ow to do that.
I wanted to just say I had to unsub them and then sub them again. It seemed it was att and a server called hughes. You are right if you are bouncing then you are not getting the letter and the link on how to unbounce. Anita? |
Re: Is there a manual method of Migrating Messages from Yahoo Groups
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYes, I'm sure. I received the 'Your Group has been Transferred" email and it said right there that none of the messages were transferred.? And, yes, I can still log in to our group and see/search/view all the old messages. They are there and accessible to me anyways. ? Thanks so much for your excellent suggestions. Yes...you can start a new transfer to retrieve those areas that were left behind, but you will first have to delete the existing one.?
Assuming your transfer is actually done, click the red "Delete Completed Transfer" button at the bottom of the page. Upon confirmation, you can try again. Be sure to check ONLY the Transfer Messages checkbox this second time around. |

Not sure what happens if there are several short lines used. The same thing as happens with descriptive text added for individual photos within an album. Any "return" inserted by the originator is ignored and what started on a different line is added to the line above so that it is displayed as line of text until the management software decides that it needs to insert a return of its own because it has filled up the designated width available. That doesn't read all that cleanly but I think the meaning is clear enough. I hope... Chris |

I just wanted to know if something is going on that is making them bounce like this. It is hard to explain to this older members how to unbounce themselves. To clear bouncing status with groups.io, subscribers can click on a link in either a bounce probe, or in the banner that shows up when they log on. Be advised that this does nothing to resolve the underlying problem. Bouncing can have many origins, including a full mailbox, mail servers that occasionally act up, or providers that throttle back on message delivery. There is a great deal of information on this in the system help at /static/help#bouncing....but in my experience sharing it with your subscribers will only confuse them further. As for what's actually going on with your subscribers at the moment, open their member record[s], click the Email Delivery History button, and tell us what you find. If they are all from cox.net, that seems to be a persistent problem with that provider right now. Regards, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

Re: bouncing
Yes, Mike, I had to unbounce myself from every groups io I amin yesterday, strange but guess it happens. It was simple. Re: Photo Albums
I got a reply from Mark yesterday and the available text area has been expanded.? Through some testing, it appears that about 800-1000 characters (5 lines) can be made visible, depending on the size of the monitor, so one of mine still doesn't fit.? My group is plain text, so not sure if it would be the same for groups that allow html.? I suggested that he limit the amount of text that can be entered, but that may be down the road, if at all.

Re: bouncing
I noticed yesterday that a lot of pacbell, att, bellsouth, and sbcglobal addresses were bouncing, all with some variation of the "550 5.2.1 <email address>... Addressee unknown, relay=[66.175.222.12]"? Today they seem to be starting to get through.? There are still a few cox addresses that intermittently bounce.? Hopefully it will all sort itself out.

Seems like there would be some type of communication between groups.io and the bigger carriers like Cox so we wouldn¡¯t suffer through this, but obviously it must not be that simple. That communication is unlikely if Mark is not made fully aware of the problem. A quick search on this group points to Cox misbehaving rather a lot since about March; I suggest that an email be sent to [email protected] ensure that he is fully aware of the scale of the problem so that he can (hopefully) take it up with Cox. In the meantime there is perhaps a way of reducing the incidence of bounces, and that is for those affected to check their Inboxes to make sure that they are not "full". That is not the Inbox of any email client that they may be using, but the Inbox that Cox supplies. Depending on individual settings members' Cox inboxes may not be being deleted automatically (if an email client is used) or members may not be clearing out old emails from time to time. I am not going to suggest that the foregoing is a cure - all but it is definitely worth doing regardless. Chris |
