mail problems after transfer from Yahoo groups
#post-transfer
#yahoo
Our group transfer just got completed earlier today.
A member now writes to say that her Yahoo email account (with which she was subscribed to the old Yahoo group and which was brought over to the new one here) suddenly stopped working for her to send email. She writes: Since the transfer, I get an error message from the Yahoo server saying that my mail address cannot be found and has been rejected every time I try to send something. I¡¯ve not had any issues with my mail in all of these years, so the timing seems way too coincidental. My worry is that anyone who writes to me at my old Yahoo address will not be able to reach me. But I did get the .io mails on my yahoo account. I just couldn¡¯t respond to them. So maybe incoming mail isn¡¯t broken, just outgoing? I've sent a test message to her Yahoo email account to see if it does in fact receive incoming email. I've also asked the group owner to remove her yahoo email subscription since she has now subscribed with a different email addy. Any ideas on what might be happening here? I'm mystified. Thanks! Su |

Easiest way to to usubscribe?
We use our group like a newsletter. Anyone can subscribe, but only moderators can post. I'd like to inform our subscribers of the easiest way to unsubscribe from our group. I know there is an "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of each message, but I'm looking for a way they can unsubscribe easily without having to use a previous message.

Missing footers
I have a member who went through the automatic unsub process and clicked the link to get back into the group.? Since then, though, she's not getting many messages and those that she is getting have no footer.? We have some not very computer savvy members, so I've added links to the photos and files in the footer since they often can't find them.?? Any thoughts on what might be happening here?? Janet

I didn't restart though I did go back and uncheck a couple of boxes and "updated" the transfer request. I also sent the above question to support but didn't get an answer.
However, I got emailed last night that the invite had been accepted, and the whole transfer was completed at about noon, Mountain time! I'm happy. :-) |

Panos,
What I don't get is how I can send/receive emails from my corporateThat's a good question. I don't have any Enterprise groups and I'm not entirely familiar with what capabilities come with the custom domain feature. It is possible that the way your service checks the incoming message it sees the custom domain as "local" or otherwise bypasses that requirement. It is also possible that Groups.io is delivering messages through the submission port of a mailserver in that domain, causing the messages to actually be from a local server, as seen by your incoming processing. A detailed examination of the message header from a message that went through that other group may provide the answer, but don't post an example in GMF - our archives are public - and it would be "noise" to most members. In reply to Yvette you wrote: If you mean going on the web page and send a message from there, i'veYou mean colleagues using the same email service? I was afraid of that. Other options: Ask your email service to publish a DMARC policy of "reject". This would be a very draconian step, and I don't really recommend it, but it would cause Groups.io to automatically re-write your From address as being @groups.io, thus avoiding the problem. Ask Groups.io to implement an account feature whereby you can elect to have your From address rewritten (as if for DMARC) despite the lack of a published policy from your email service. This has been discussed before and it would help others with a similar problem. Trouble is neither the "intended" title nor the description needs to be of novella proportions for things to start looking wrong. As a purely personal opinion I am not certain that album descriptions are as useful as explanatory text appended to individual photographs. Those without the authorisation to Edit cannot see the (full) description field, only that part of the description that creeps into the banner at the top, so at the moment it is a bit of a muddle. Photo Albums
Can anyone recall when it was that Mark announced the new format of banner at the top of each Album in Photos sections? I've had a search but couldn't find his announcement.
They ought to look very nice but the effect can be spoiled by using too long a title (for some value of "too long") and anything typed into the "description" field can also creep into the Album Title. I'm tempted to suggest a reduction in the font size used for the (actual) title to make it more tolerant of longer titles and for the contents of the "description" field to be kept out of the banner photo completely. Re: How do you get messages in your group to reply to sender?
#bug
My Group is set to reply to Group since every post is? expected to contain useful information for all the other subscribers.
But if a reply is more personal, such as a "Thanks for the info" I can click on Reply to Sender at the bottom of the message, in blue. It works fine and keeps non-useful info posts out of the Archives. I described it to the Group subscribers and a number of them thanked me, because it eliminated the process of replacing the group address with the senders address manually to achieve the same thing. |

Thanks for the thought Yvette. If you mean going on the web page and send a message from there, i've?tried that and it still doesn't arrive in my inbox (nor to other colleagues' inbox). We would need to go online every now and then and check that manually...

Hello Shal,
Many thanks for the elaborate reply. Why the error is happening is clear to me now. We set up this mailing list for a collaboration between companies so ideally I and many colleagues would like to be able to send/receive emails properly. It is far from ideal to not be able to receive emails from colleagues from our own company (defeats the purpose of the mailing list). What I don't get is how I can send/receive emails from my corporate email account to another mailing list (lists.onap.org) that is also set up in groups.io. The only difference is that the other group has its own domain (lists.onap.org). How isn't my email service rejecting these emails also? Many thanks,? Panos |
Re: Bouncing problem
#bouncedemails
Panos,
I never received that email and if I read my email delivery history onWhat your email service is saying is that they rejected the message because it is From you - your email address in their ("local") domain - yet they received it from Groups.io (a server at an IP address that doesn't belong to them ("non-local"). Do you have an idea of how to sort this out? You'll need to ask that of your email service. As matters stand they are basically saying that you may not receive your own messages back from any traditional email list. But they may have a way to "whitelist" or otherwise identify groups.io as a valid sender of messages To you that are From you. Or you could decide to just live with this limitation. You should be able to receive group messages from other group members (but maybe not from any that use your same email service, depending on how picky they are being). That would be something you'd need to check, if possible. Or you could set up a second subscription for yourself at another email service (such as gmail). You would set your primary address subscription to No Email to prevent duplicates. An Email Alias and some forwarding or cross-service mail checking would be involved. Or you could chose a more list-friendly email service. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Group messages being blocked to @cox.net addresses
Beth,
This user says that she is getting topic/message emails ... , but whenIn the category of "Is it plugged in?" questions, she should check at her service's webmail interface for any Junk or Spam folders that may be catching the logon emails, or any filters she can set to accept email from groups.io or from [email protected] (aka "whitelist" them). She should also make sure that the email address she's trying to use is exactly the same as that shown in the bottom of a footer from a group message she has received. It is amazing how many times members typo their own email address, or type the wrong address because they had previously set up a forwarding arrangement. Bouncing problem

Panagiotis Georgopoulos
Hello all,
I've created a new group and emailed my first post from the email I subscribed with.? I never received that email and if I read my email delivery history on the groups.io web portal I see a bouncing error "550 5.7.1 local domain specified from non-local IP". Do you have an idea of how to sort this out? Many thanks in advance, Panos?? |
