Re: renamed my main group, now I cant get to it, or sub-group via drop-down "Your Groups", top left #groupname

Sam,

I wonder if G.io can RESTORE my group back to original?
As you've discovered, after renaming you primary group it can take some time for the new name to propagate through the internet (specifically the DNS system) and to everyone's computers.

That delay is partly within your own computer if the OS caches the DNS entries (and it most likely does), and if your browser caches them (it may also). Your home router may also have a DNS cache, and your ISP service almost certainly does.

But once the name has reached you, you can access your primary group and change it back, if you really want to.

Having support change it back for you won't change the need for the second change to also propagate through the DNS system. But you'd have to ask support if they will do that for you.

Not seeing email about posts made to an announcement group

When I did a direct add to populate my main user group, I must have inadvertently checked "following only" under the Advanced Preferences / Message Selection.? I think that explains why most users never got email about post made by our moderator in the main user group (setup as an Announcement Group).? ?In order to correct this, is there a way to do a bulk change to Advanced Perferences / Mseeage Selection to "All Messages."? I don;t look forward to having to do this manually for 600+ accounts.

?Dave,

It seems to me that you might not be fully aware of all existing features. It might also help if you indicated what your problem is.

For example, point 3 is accomplished using a normal account (eg - "external email address") that is configured to receive individual emails. What more do you need?

If you already had the subgroup, just renaming the main group shouldn't do anything serious.? You may need to tweak a link in the Welcome message and you may want to change the Subject Tag in the Message Formatting section of the Settings page.

Probably best to report this to support with as many specifics as you can give.? I know there have been past reports of Safari not working well on the site.? Some of them have been fixed by Mark, but I think it's still contrary in places.

Just in case you're not aware of it, no one from Groups.io management monitors this group (as far as we know.)? You'd do better to make your suggestions on the group, official suggestion box of the site.? Or bump up a previous suggestion over there if it covers yours.

Wiki editing toolbar in Safari #wiki

Hi
With Safari browser, the Advanced tool bar is much more limited in Safari than in Firefox. (Safari version 12.0)
I can't set font family, font size, text colour, no preview, background colour when I click on Advanced Toolbar.
Of course, I can use Firefox but the fact that these features don't look like they exist is a problem!

I don't get it on my iphone either - ver 12.0.1

Interestingly, on my husband's iPad, he sees the full set of tools.
And on his desktop, but updated to Mojave. (I have the last version - High Sierra 10.13.6.)
And on El Capitan on our old Apple computer with the default Safari browser.

Anybody with the same experience?
Frances

renaming a group, can g.io restore to previous settings? #groupname

That would be wonderful.
We are on the verge of going to PAID, wanted a group email change, and its all screwed up now.

Thanks

Thank you so much Bruce. I experienced the DNS issue immediately, a computer REBOOT solved that.

I wonder if G.io can RESTORE my group back to original?

Man if I know that renaming my main group email would cause so many probs, never would of done that.

Re: Allow Non-Subscribers to Post Without Moderation? #moderation

Shal, thanks for your thoughts.? Maybe someday...

Toby, this is an intriguing idea, but we don't have an enterprise account or a separate domain which I believe you need for this.? I'm thinking we just need to use Google Groups for the Board list, and keep our HOA unit owners in Groups.io. ?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: renamed my main group, now I cant get to it, or sub-group via drop-down "Your Groups", top left #groupname

Just as groups must be approved when they are created, a group name change must be approved, too. There are also DNS entries that need to be updated, due to groups.io's subdomain addressing.

If by tomorrow you still can't get to the renamed group, please come back and let us know.

Bruce

Thanks

Re: Group member not a member

Hi

I changed my subscription to my test group to Plain Digest and I sent enough messages to generate a digest being sent, including two messages with a photo attached.

When I clicked on View Message or the jpeg in the footer for a message, it took me to the log in screen.?

You said: ?She is still receiving group email. When she tries to view photos from our group email link, she says the link "it takes me to only the info page and the opportunity to ¡°sign up for this group"
She needs to ignore "sign up for this group. Use the sign in form.

Re: Group member not a member

Hi Joan

What happens if the member clicks on View / Reply Online??
It should bring the person to the Log In screen.

And if you look at Admin, Members, you can see which email address is her account ID. (The email address IS the account ID.) You could confirm that this is the one she is using.

Also, here's more info about logging in. Some important info about using the Email Me a Link.
Only lasts 30 days (or less if she deletes cookies.)

Group member not a member

I wasn¡¯t sure how to word the subject. I¡¯ve received a message from a member who says she is getting the digest, but can¡¯t log in to the group. She says she has not received the removed due to spam email. I can find her listed as a member in our member directory. She says she is using the same email she used to sign up. She is still receiving group email. When she tries to view photos from our group email link, she says the link?

it takes me to only the info page and the opportunity to ¡°sign up for this group¡¯. I am getting the digest just not able to get the photos when I click on the photos link at the bottom of the e-mail. When I go to IO groups it does not show me as a member.

What is the solution to this issue? Thanks for your help

Re: Sub Groups

Ken,

Is it possible:-

? for the Group Owner to always be able to add members of the main
Group to a Sub Group?
Yes. When a group has subgroups a new page will appear under Admin that shows a list with a row of checkboxes for the subgroup memberships of each primary group member.

Or, in the subgroup's Admin pages you can use Direct Add (even in a Basic group) to control which primary group members are in this subgroup.

? to disable replies to a Sub Group?
Yes. Each subgroup will have a Settings page, with almost exactly the same controls as the primary group.

Re: Subscribers complain about not seeing their own posts via email

Thanks for the suggestions... I ended up deleting the accounts and re-adding them and it appears to have solved the problem..? Is the duplicate email box checked by default when accounts are setup?

Yes, I believe there are some groups that do that very thing.? The main group is used for announcements, then subgroups are used to discuss specific areas.
