While we're at it, please see the following GMF message regarding other impacts you may encounter as a result of changing the group name:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/8144

Re: Allow Non-Subscribers to Post Without Moderation? #moderation

Shal, thanks for your thoughts.? Maybe someday...

Toby, this is an intriguing idea, but we don't have an enterprise account or a separate domain which I believe you need for this.? I'm thinking we just need to use Google Groups for the Board list, and keep our HOA unit owners in Groups.io. ?

Thanks,
Dave

Re: renamed my main group, now I cant get to it, or sub-group via drop-down "Your Groups", top left #groupname

Just as groups must be approved when they are created, a group name change must be approved, too. There are also DNS entries that need to be updated, due to groups.io's subdomain addressing.

If by tomorrow you still can't get to the renamed group, please come back and let us know.

renamed my main group, now I cant get to it, or sub-group via drop-down "Your Groups", top left #groupname

I renamed it from "shna", to what it is now, "samhughes",? and now using the drop-down (see screenshot), I get a blank page, (see 2nd sreenshot)

Were on the verge of going to paid version, but wanted to rename the "group email", and I must of messed sumpin up.
Thanks

Re: Group member not a member

Hi

I changed my subscription to my test group to Plain Digest and I sent enough messages to generate a digest being sent, including two messages with a photo attached.

When I clicked on View Message or the jpeg in the footer for a message, it took me to the log in screen.?

You said: ?She is still receiving group email. When she tries to view photos from our group email link, she says the link "it takes me to only the info page and the opportunity to ¡°sign up for this group"
She needs to ignore "sign up for this group. Use the sign in form.

Re: Group member not a member

Hi Joan

What happens if the member clicks on View / Reply Online??
It should bring the person to the Log In screen.

And if you look at Admin, Members, you can see which email address is her account ID. (The email address IS the account ID.) You could confirm that this is the one she is using.

Also, here's more info about logging in. Some important info about using the Email Me a Link.
Only lasts 30 days (or less if she deletes cookies.)

Group member not a member

I wasn¡¯t sure how to word the subject. I¡¯ve received a message from a member who says she is getting the digest, but can¡¯t log in to the group. She says she has not received the removed due to spam email. I can find her listed as a member in our member directory. She says she is using the same email she used to sign up. She is still receiving group email. When she tries to view photos from our group email link, she says the link?

it takes me to only the info page and the opportunity to ¡°sign up for this group¡¯. I am getting the digest just not able to get the photos when I click on the photos link at the bottom of the e-mail. When I go to IO groups it does not show me as a member.

What is the solution to this issue? Thanks for your help

Re: Sub Groups

Ken,

Is it possible:-

? for the Group Owner to always be able to add members of the main
Group to a Sub Group?
Yes. When a group has subgroups a new page will appear under Admin that shows a list with a row of checkboxes for the subgroup memberships of each primary group member.

Or, in the subgroup's Admin pages you can use Direct Add (even in a Basic group) to control which primary group members are in this subgroup.

? to disable replies to a Sub Group?
Yes. Each subgroup will have a Settings page, with almost exactly the same controls as the primary group.

Shal

Re: Subscribers complain about not seeing their own posts via email

Thanks for the suggestions... I ended up deleting the accounts and re-adding them and it appears to have solved the problem..? Is the duplicate email box checked by default when accounts are setup?

Yes, I believe there are some groups that do that very thing.? The main group is used for announcements, then subgroups are used to discuss specific areas.

The way to effect this setting has recently been changed, and the result is far from intuitive.

Go to Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Hashtag Permissions and select one of the two "Posts by subscribers may only be tagged with existing hashtags" options. I believe "bounce" is the default, but I have my group set to "remove."

In groups.io, only Owners (and Moderators with proper permissions) can create/edit hashtags via the Hashtags menu item; all Subscribers can do is mute them. Ironically, though, Subscribers *can* create new hashtags simply by inserting one in an group message subject line, if you don't have this setting right.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: #hashtags restrict use of hashtags #hashtags

Go to Admin > Settings, scroll down to the Message Policies area, and set the Hashtag Permissions option to something other than "Posts can be tagged with new hashtags".

Yes I saw the 'Announcement Group' option for the main group, however is it possible for a main Group to be an 'Announcement Group' but with sub Groups specified as a normal Group with posting allowed by all members (of that sub Group)?

Yes, a group owner can always add a current member to a subgroup by using the Admin/Members tab, then clicking on Subgroups at the top.

You may disable replies to a subgroup by making it an "Announcement?only" group under settings. ?Look under Spam Control for:

? ? ? ? ? ? ?Announcement Group
? ? ? ? ? ? Only moderators are allowed to post.
Hope that helps.

Re: POLLING

Ellen -- Appended below please find a screenshot using the Chrome browser; hopefully it will still be legible when rescaled. Note the "message number" of this poll (6763). I have right-clicked on the link at upper right of this poll in GMF and selected "copy link address." The text displayed by your browser may be different.

When I subsequently paste what I copied into a message, I get the following:??/g/GroupManagersForum/message/6763?

Generally speaking, the URL or a message or poll will be /g/{groupname}/message/{message number}. [things get a little more complicated with subgroups -- best to use the right-click trick if you can] If you send that the interested person, they should be able to get there...after they have completed the login process.

Instructions on how to log in can be found at?/static/help#password?

Bruce

I'm new to this platform and I can't figure out how to set my hashtag setting so that only the owner and moderators can create hashtags. Any suggestions?

Re: Allow Non-Subscribers to Post Without Moderation? #moderation

I would suggest that groups.io may not be a good fit for what you want for incoming board email.? Mark may be reticent to allow groups to open up posting privileges to any email sender.

I setup a Google group for our board and changed the post permissions to allow anyone to post to the group. (we also use Google docs for a shared document repository for the board)
Then I setup a mail forwarding address on our domain:
board@... forward to -> <groupname>@googlegroups.com.

If you ever decide to switch from groups.io to some other site for the HOA members, the board archive is unaffected.

My 2? worth..
