Have you read this wiki: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam? Feel free to copy it into your own wiki section, and draw your members' attention to it. It may well be that your members are contributing to the problem.

Becoming a "paid for" group will not help at all.

messages not being sent or received in my group this morning.

I've just sent several messages to one of my groups, including a couple of special notices. They didn't arrive, and there's no record of them in either the group activity log or my own activity. Any ideas?

only owner/moderators allowed to send attachments #howto

Is there a way to set a group so that only owner or moderators can send attachments?
I'd like to be able to send occasional attachments, but I don't want all members to have the same permission.
I have set my group to "moderate attachments", but this is a bit of a nuisance because I have to approve my own attachments.

Thank you for your help.

Re: New to Groups.io #question

We had a links page on Yahoogroups.?
We now have a wiki on Groups.io
Works well.?
There are help pages in using the wiki if you are new to them.?

members being removed

I have had several members being removed because of spam. This is becoming a big problem because many of them get upset and are not coming back.

Not sure what to do about this. Might have to go back to yahoo or pay here.

Any advice?

Anita

There's no setting for it, but the site limits it to 5 hashtags.? You might suggest this on the beta group, "the official suggestion box" for Groups.io.

A possible work-around.? You could set all of the hashtags to Moderated, so that messages using them would have to be approved.? Probably not feasible on a group that requires hashtags and creates more work for moderators though.

We also seeing frequent use of hashtags without any subject. Is is possible to require a subject?
Unfortunately, no.? I don't get a lot of these posts, but they do show up now and then.

Re: Strange "Delivery Failure¡± email notices

I sent a message to one of my groups and strangely received 2 "Delivery Failure¡± email notices
Perhaps these notices were from mail2world.com, not comcast.

Those messages were auto-forwarded to mail2world.com, some members of the .io group have set up forwarding. Probably you can see these members' email addresses in the header or footer included in the Delivery Failure notices. Unsub or ban them.

New to Groups.io #question

Hi I am new to Groups.io and have just had my Yahoo group transferred.? My question is will there be a 'Links' page similar to that in Yahoo added to group options any time soon?
We are a Charity Knitting/craft group and have a lot of Links to websites for patterns etc.
We also use the Databases to track our donations each month e.g. who is supporting a collection, when they send their donation etc.
Having Links mixed in with our Interactive Databases is a total mess and going to cause a lot of our elderly not so computer savvie members a lot of anguish.
If this option will not be available does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can put our current Links to get them out of the Database page?? TIA

Jan,

1.? How do you moderate one person all there posts?? Is that override moderates?

Yes. The "Override" options for a member's Posting Privileges override the group setting for just that one member.

2.? I ha e a member of sub group that cannot add files.? How do I allow a non moderate to add files to subgroup

In the Settings page for the subgroup (each subgroup has its own), in the Features section at the bottom, you need to set the Permissions option for Files to Subscribers can view and upload. Don't forget the Update Group button at the bottom of the page before you leave the page.

Ellen,

1. Can you email to individuals/several people using ?

You, a moderator of the group, can checkmark members in the Members list and use the Send Message item in the Actions menu to send to just those members. You can use the Member Notices feature in the Settings page of your group to create and maintain a set of stock messages to select from when you send.

You, a member of the group, can click the Email button on an individual member's Directory entry, if the Directory is available to the group members (that's a group option) and if the member in question has made their profile available in the directory (that's a subscription option). In this case you won't see the other member's email address unless they reply to you, but yours will be in the From field of the message you send to them.

And, as Frances mentioned you, a member, can make a Private reply to a member's post. Same rule as above, you don't see their address unless they reply to you, but your address is in the From field of the message you send. Same thing if the group's Reply To is set to Sender instead of to Group.

And of course, you can use your email service to send messages to anyone whose address you have. If you subscribe to individual messages you'll receive other member's addresses in the From field of messages they post to the group

2. If you receive an email in your personal email and you want to email to the distribution list?are you able to do so.?If you can how will this be done?

If you mean an email that didn't come from the group, you'd have to use your email interface to forward that message to the group's posting address. How you do that depends on your email interface.

Ro,

A member, unlike a moderator, can only delete their own messages. And no, there is no setting for you to prevent that. You can prevent them from editing their own messages with the Disable Editing Posts checkbox, in the Message Policies section of your group's Settings page.

Strange "Delivery Failure¡± email notices

I sent a message to one of my groups and strangely received 2 "Delivery Failure¡± email notices from my Email Provider <Postmaster@...>

| Message delivery failed to the following address <snipped>@mail2world.com Reason: Mailbox deactivated
These "Delivery Failure" emails included the full message text including footer that was successfully received by other members of my Groups.io group

Both were for < @mail2world.com> email addresses that were members of my YahooGroups, but seem not to have been moved over to Groups.io
I can not find any record of those email addresses or those message failures anywhere on my Groups.io group

The Moderator Activity log does not show any "Support added < @mail2world.com>¡± entries as it does for the addresses that were moved.

What happened?
Where would this be logged?

Re: TWO QUESTIONS #howto

Hello Frances, Bruce, etc. ¨C Thanx for that reply.

So while we ARE able to email to individuals using group.io, we cannot however send email to several people at once using group.io?

Or can we?? And if we are able to then we can select 'privete' to do so? Or how???

Just wanting some further clarification on that second (multiple) option.

Thanks for the help.. This is my first go around with Group.io and I am sure the group will have some question so I want to be able to answer a few questions.

It is easy to reply privately (off list) to just one person.?
If you are replying through your email, reply by clicking on reply to sender in the footer.?
(I believe that doesn't work if you are set to plain text. Recent discussion about this.)

I do it through the home page. I click on reply and type and then click on Private (bottom right corner) instead of the green Reply to Group.

Question 2 -?
2. If you receive an email in your personal email and you want to email to the group.io distribution list?are you able to do so.?If you can how will this be done?
That's easy! Just start an email. The only tricky part is that you have to use the email address you are using as a member.
Except you can set an email alias that allows you to use another email address instead. Set that up on your group site - go to your name in the top right corner. In Account, scroll down and click to open Advanced Settings for Email Aliases. This is useful if you wanted to email to a group from your work computer. Your group email address is on the homepage of your group.?
