Re: Aliases
Sharon,
I do the same thing as your member.? I have?my email address but host my mail at gmail.? Have your member put their gmail address in the alias field as I mentioned in this reply -> /g/GroupManagersForum/message/11649 This is not something that you can do for her.? She needs to login to the web site and go to her Account settings.?? Toby |
I believe the only pictures on Chat are the avatars, so it's text only.

Re: Aliases
Sharon, I need to know how aliases work ¡ª what goes in the alias field. What goes in the alias field is an alternate posting address - Groups.io will accept messages from that address as if they came from the member's subscribed address. subscription at = 334@... The simplest thing to do would be for her to change her account email address to the gmail address. Then receiving there and sending from there would work naturally. But that somewhat depends on why she has that forwarding set up in the first place:
But it is possible she has some other reason for what she is doing. In which case adding her gmail address as the alias should allow her to post from the gmail address while continuing to receive messages forwarded through her subscribed address. Aliases
I need to know how aliases work ¡ª what goes in the alias field.
I have a person who uses one address to post but mail is being rejected because messages are forwarded from her gMail address. subscription at groups.io = 334@... receives and sends from gmail = 789@890 GroupsIO reads the gmail instead of the subscribed address. Which goes in the alias box? Should she change her subscription to the other address? Sharon |

Anthony,
Users can ask to subscribe on the web site or by sending an email to?<groupname>[email protected]. To be able to subscribe someone directly without their involvement, you need the "Direct Add" feature which comes with a premium membership. Thanks Toby From the pricing page: |
Re: problem with blocked emails for mymts.net (bellmts.ca)
Harlan,
As you've determined, the problem is with the member's email service provider.? They are blocking the emails.? Sending a bounce probe will fail until the problem is resolved (analogous to "can you hear me now??"). There is a good discussion of handling bounces here ->?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Help-Mock-up#Bounce-Handling Best place to look is the member page -> Email Delivery History which will have a record of recent bounces including the error message(s) returned by the mail service provider - that's what needs to be sent to the tech support people. Thanks Toby |
Re: Reply to post sometimes results in a new topic
I'd say this one happened because the reply added the "- " in the subject line.? Any changes will start a new topic.? Some people feel like they need to 'correct' the subject line which results in a new topic.? It seems less likely to happen when replies are made on the web, but can still occur.

Reply to post sometimes results in a new topic
Dear all,
I don't know if this is a problem or if it's just that I am missing something in the way Groups.io works. In my group Biblit sometimes replies to a post are shown in the message archive as new topics, forcing me to merge them later so to have just one thread and a more consistent archive. A fresh example: A member started a topic tagged #AIUTO EN>IT Livery drivers Another members replied with a post tagged Re: [Biblit] #AIUTO - EN>IT Livery drivers, which showed in the archive as a separate topic, not inside the original thread as I would have expected. Does this have to do with replying via web vs. replying by mail? Is there a way to get around it? Thank you for your help. Marina |
problem with blocked emails for mymts.net (bellmts.ca)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI¡¯m not sure if this message should go to group help forum or group managers forum, so will start with group managers first. ? My group is comprised of about 2,030 members of which many are Canadian and use a service called mymts.net (which might actually be bellmts.ca). Most of these members are experiencing ¡®bouncing¡¯ problems. The are NOT getting the ¡®bounce probe¡¯ messages as I assume mymts.net is also blocking those bounce probes.? When they have contacted their technical support people for mymts.net that get the following message¡ªBUT since they don¡¯t have a copy of the ¡®bounced¡¯ or blocked message, they have NOTHING to send to the tech support people. ? The only indication my SSVforum members have that their messages are blocked is that all of a sudden they no longer are getting messages from [email protected]? They contact me and when I check their status I see they are in ¡®bounce mode¡¯; I send them a ¡®bounce probe¡¯, but as I indicated, they don¡¯t get it. ?
? ++++following message from mymts.net tech support++++ Can you please send a recent e-mail that would have been bounced!! Send to ? ?customerfirst.technicalsupport@...!! Thanks!! +++++end of forwarded message++++ Harlan Steinle SSV Forum ? ? ? |
Re: Editing Files
Nancy,
I also want to have a file of guild by-laws in the same area as the board of directors list so I don't think databases would be ideal.? I will definitely try to work with the Wiki page.? Thanks for the sidebar suggestion.? Still feeling my way around, and all the helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated!!! Maureen |

when she tries to subscribe to our IO list she gets a bounce message back saying "spam" - how might she fix that??The bounce message almost certainly says far more than just "spam." If Duane's suggestion doesn't work, then posting the COMPLETE rejection notice here will make it much easier to help you. Jim H |

My take on this is that the expiration time is for the active link included in the invitation email. It is good for 14 days and expires, is no longer active, after that. These can then be removed as you see fit.An Invitation and a Pending Member are two different things.? An Invited member will never become Pending, they'll just be added to the group when they accept.? As far as I can tell, an Invitation is good until you remove it (or it's accepted.)? For the situation discussed here, a Pending Member shows up for Restricted groups where joining has to be approved.? It's supposed to expire, thus disappear, after 14 days. I have never had one expire after 14 days either. We contact prospective members (via private email off-group so it shouldn't interfere with anything in groups.io) and wait for a reply from them. If we don't get a response after 3 weeks or so I just delete it - one has never "expired" on its own. It has never seemed important enough to me to report it but my experience is consistent with what Debbie observes. |
