Re: Change in order of how messages are presented

Beth,

Another note for my beginning members in a file/wiki somewhere.
If you have the itch to write it, we'd be happy to host some additional "beginner" pages in GMF's wiki. The "Quick-Start Guide" section is woefully underpopulated.

Re: Show original sender for posts via forwarded emails. #howto

Joe,

We have a small management group that receives outside posts from
participants and government announcements via a subscription service.
Sounds like a job for either the "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" setting or an Email Integration. The former will will accept all comers, but requires that all such posts be approved by a moderator.

With an integration moderation is optional, but a basic group can only have five of them. If I understand correctly each integration accepts messages only from a single source, established by the first message it receives.

I tried a similar setup for groups.io, but all outside posts show up
as from funnel@... and fred@... doesn't show up
anywhere.
Sounds like an issue with how you've set it up in Gmail. A manually forwarded message always takes on your own address as the from. I'm not so sure about an automatically forwarded message; that might go out preserving the original sender's address. I haven't tried using that feature. Another name for this type of forward is a "redirect", and many email services no longer support it.

About a year ago, the government delivery service made some sort of
change that screwed the subscriptions up. Now when the government
sends out any notice we get unsubscribed within seconds.
"We" who? Get unsubscribed from what? If you mean that your funnel gets unsubscribed from the delivery service it could be a reaction to the government delivery service setting a DMARC policy forbidding forwarding of their messages.

Gmail doesn't (normally) reject messages even when the sender has published "reject" as their policy, but it is possible that Google groups do. And the delivery service's response to getting a rejection notice might well be to unsubscribe the addressee.

Re: Show original sender for posts via forwarded emails. #howto

This sounds a lot like the problem I have with alias address' from my account.

My account is bryan@... but I often send emails from other@...

Groups.io will always see bryan@ no matter what the 'from' address was in the email. I am told, no fix for it. Other than to create an entire new account in my case, an option that won't work.

Show original sender for posts via forwarded emails. #howto

We have a small management group that receives outside posts from participants and government announcements via a subscription service. We are currently running on Google Groups. I cannot duplicate the mechanism we use in Google Groups under Groups.io. I am looking for a way to do this or an alternate approach. I want the outside participants and the subscription service to be able to send posts via email, but not do anything else in the group. I want group members to see who sent the posts. I want it simple.

For the Google Groups we set up an email address funnel@... that automatically forwards emails to ourgroup@.... An email post from fred@... sent to funnel@... shows in the group with fred@... and not funnel@.... This has worked fine for a few years. About a year ago, the government delivery service made some sort of change that screwed the subscriptions up. Now when the government sends out any notice we get unsubscribed within seconds. The delivery service does nto seem to know or care when it happening.

I tried a similar setup for groups.io, but all outside posts show up as from funnel@... and fred@... doesn't show up anywhere. The group is not usable without the original sender's information.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Oh boy.? I guess they are still backed up.

Thanks for the report, appreciate it.

Re: Bulk Remove

I think I have the settings set at deleting older attachments.
I will check to make sure and if not set it that way.
?
So?by deleting older attachments?when I reach 100% it doesn't really matter or make a difference to how the group will be run.
?
No, I am not selective at all in what can or would be deleted.
My group never used the message feature for anything. We are basically using the group to get what is shared from Emailing them.
?
All that is sent through the group is saved via email.? The archives aren't important to my group at all.
So to me all can be deleted without any worry for me.

Thanks, Ilene?

?
It seems to me that in your case setting your group's "Out of Space" settings
to delete old(er) attachments when the group is out of space would achieve
pretty much this same purpose with considerably less ongoing effort on your
part. It will also delete as needed... giving slightly better retention time
than if you delete something a week (or whatever) before auto delete would
have deleted it. Granted auto deletion doesn't allow for selectivity, but
when you're running out as fast as you are, you probably can't afford to be
all that selective for very long anyhow.

How do you auto remove?
That is what I want to do. I don't mind if all are auto removed. Less labor intensive then deleting them one by one.

I don't think the actual messages count against your storage total.? i.e message archives have no limit but attachments do
So as Jim H said, auto remove the most ancient attachments seems a less labor intensive way to go.

I meant to refer attachments?rather then messages.
?
I don't need to become a premium member at cost because this is a hobby?of mine and I can close the group in a heartbeat as the group is basically an email group and not a forum where the messages are important to be read. I can delete them all each month and start from using 0.
?
But right now I need to know?if and how I can delete all of the attachments without having to do them one by one.
?
These are my stats
Attachments are now at 88% after I deleted a whole bunch.
?
Photos - 0%
Files 25 KB
Database 0%
Wiki 0%
Integrations 0 out of 5
?
About brutal deletions it would be all okay to delete all. Ilene

Don't forget that deleting messages is pointless if you are running out of storage space because messages don't count towards your available total. OK deleting attachments will help, but not the messages themselves.

Graphics are likely to guzzle storage space, and you might have to consider becoming a Premium Group (at cost) to get more, especially if you are getting close to the limit in just a month.

What percentage of your space has been taken up by each of Files, Attachments and Photos? Some fairly brutal deletions might be necessary, IMHO.

Re: Bulk Remove

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have looked at the attachment section and can delete them from there but?one by one. There has to be a better way to do that.
?
Unless I am missing something, the Wiki pages do not address this?problem of free up space with attachments any different then I have been doing one by one.
?
Right now?the messages have to be deleted one by one and in a month exactly my group?hit it's quota. Now my group is treated basically as an email group and not a forum where messages can be read at the home site or even replied to there. But I would really like to delete by bulk. Ilene?

See the wiki entry on this at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Deleting%20attachments,%20files%20and%20photos

You might want to particularly look at the Attachments section. Click on the Size tab to sort by size.

Re: Topics

Joan,

You can lock the topic - use the little menu from the bottom of the message. Then re-use the topic by creating a new post. Any replies to the new message go to the new message.

I just tested it and it works.

Frances

Topics

It was my understanding that you couldn¡¯t have multiple topics all with the exact same wording. Is this correct? Or not?
I wanted to pin a topic thread to the top of our page that people who want to have extraneous chat could post to...but now we have 3 topics all with the same name...
Since ?I wrote them all , I know they are written exactly the same.?
Other than replying to the topic, is there a way to manage this?

No. You check the box(es) next to the member(s) and then drop down to the
"Actions" button. Click it to open a list of actions and select REMOVE to
remove all the checked members.

Bulk remove is if you have a list of email addresses or user names. go ahead
and click Bulk Remove - it's safe to do that - and you'll see the info it wants.

Re: Group for blind managers

Maybe. Maybe not.

A person that doesn't use a screen reader, doesn't need to know how to
skip the first 500+ words on a page, each time they approve/reject a
message.

For a person that uses a screen reader, knowing how to do so, can save
five or more minutes, per message to be approved/rejected.

A group that dealt with the issues of using a11y tools on the Groups.IO
site might be useful. Not just blind list managers, but MS suffers, for
example. (This group tends to use joysticks for data input.)

If one is going to go the hashtag route, then hashtags for the name of
the screen reader are needed. (#Jaws, #WindowEyes, #Orca, #NVDIA, etc.)
Additionally:
* #Perkins - Perkings Keyboard;
* #Joystick - Joystick used for input;
* #BrailleDisplay --- Braille Display Monitor;

Maybe hashtags for the specific virtual keyboards, and/or mouse
emulation software and/or voice input software would also be useful.

###

I can see it now. A message with hashtags #Dragon #JAWS #Blind, but no
hashtag for the specific problem.
