Is this a bug or normalcy?

Joseph Hudson

So just a few moments ago, I went to go to the group website of one of my groups that I am moderating. And I was looking at a pending member. And I went to go confirm set up make sure their email address was a legit address. Well within doing so, I also CCB moderators as well. And whenever I did that, it also put the group footer below my message. So it looked as if I was sending it to the group. Is this normal, or is this possibly a glitch that needs to re-reported to support.

Move attachment(s) to Files?

Is there a way to move an attachment directly to Files?
Or must one download it and then upload to Files, which I believe will change the ¡®ownership¡¯ of the attachment/file if not done by the sender of the attachment.

Also I presume this won¡¯t change the amount of storage space used, but it is desirable for our group¡¯s organization of materials.

Your email address is your user ID.

The username in your account settings is not currently used for anything.?There is a rumor that it might be resurrected someday in order to permit the tagging of posts (like Facebook), but it's only a rumor.

Display Name is group-specific, and amounts to an index into the member Profiles. My guess is that your Display Name for the group is being [re]populated based on the "from" address provided by your email client. See the following thread for further discussion of Display Name:??/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/23672436#10374?

If Display Name is unpopulated, GIO defaults to an obfuscation of your email address...meaning that all the domain information is left off.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

If the name is not taken, yes. There are some caveats, of course. Subscriber's browser bookmarks and any entry in the address book in their mail client will point to the wrong place(s). So be sure to scour the GMF message archives for things like that, too.

If your group is a Premium group, you can try setting up some group aliases instead of actually changing the name. I have two set up for mine.

Hope this helps,

It's my understanding that, by using this setting, new incoming messages having attachments will not be bounced. It will not remedy Bob's issue with file/photo uploads...if that's the source of the problem you'll still have to go into your group and delete some things manually.

Change my Group's Name?

A small group I recently moved from Yahoo is in the midst of a number of changes beyond just the move from Yahoo to Groups.IO -- and now it looks like a slight name change could be a possibility.

It looks like it actually is possible to change the name of a group once you've started it, is that correct? It seems too good to be true, but I don't want to suggest to my group that it can be done if it really can't.

Bob,

Bruce Bowman wrote:

I know of no way to delete a large /non-photo/ attachment without also
deleting the message.
Edit the message (More menu) then scroll down to the bottom. For each attachment shown you can check a Delete box to remove that attachment from the message. Then you have to save the edit, with or without sending it to the group.

Regardless of which form of Save you choose, the poster of the message will receive a notice that their message has been edited.

You can see a summary of your group's usage on the Upgrade page (or Pricing page, if already upgraded). That's in the Admin group of pages.

Shal; it occurred to me earlier today that this subject might warrant
a wiki page; do you think this is necessary or does the query not
arise enough for it to be worth the effort? If you think it worthwhile
then I will have a stab at writing one.
Go for it. It possibly also merits a suggestion at beta@ - it seems to me that the UI could be a bit more informative than just a "no" symbol.

I'll think about where to link it from on the wiki home page. Seems like it may be a member question as well as moderator.

I can click on the top one - open it up and scroll to the bottom and?delete that message with the attachments

Whether to keep or discard requires "mind reading" on Gio's part. The best action is to keep a draft... one reason being that this may me one way people could be setting aside a message for a later response. And in the end, people need to manage this themselves. They should click CANCEL if they don't want to keep a draft of the response they started.
The saved drafts thing has saved my butt a number of times when I migrated away from the screen accidentally. What I don't understand...why should clicking on "view/reply online" automatically open a reply box?

When I click on that link, what I *usually* want to do is either:

a) open the associated thread (so I can see this message in context) or
b) simply "like" the post.?

Even when I do venture to reply, I end up hitting Discard first, highlight the portion of text I want to quote, then hit Reply all over again. So in addition to occasionally creating an unwanted, empty draft, having the reply box already open doesn't save me anything and actually costs me several steps.

Unfortunately, to this point I have been unable to adequately convey this concept in beta, and it appears the situation is no different here in GMF.

Attachments (including photos that appear in the Emailed Photos album)
can be deleted by editing the message and removing the attachment. Note
that others have reported that when you edit a posting the posting
member will be notified. Deleting photos from the Emailed Photos album
also constitutes an edit of the posting.

I sure wish someone knew how to fix it!
If your Settings are correct then it is worth going in turn to your Files and Photos sections. Scroll down to the bottom of the first page you land on in each case, and you will find a line or two (depending on which you look at) telling you how much storage space you have used. Add the two (or sometimes three) figures together to find out the total storage in use.

If you are using a Basic (free) group then the available total is 1GB; a Premium Group has 10GB; an Enterprise Group 1TB.

If your own total is at or very close to (or even perhaps slightly over) your limit then no further uploads can take place until you free up some space. (Note: 1 TB is almost a bottomless pit and will take a lot of filling!)

Shal; it occurred to me earlier today that this subject might warrant a wiki page; do you think this is necessary or does the query not arise enough for it to be worth the effort? If you think it worthwhile then I will have a stab at writing one.
