Re: Group not showing up in my groups list?
Merle, When I logged into , all of my groups except this one show up. This most likely means that your membership in that group (and owner role) were given to "you" under a different email address. You'll need to log out, then log in under that other email address to verify this. If when logged in under that other address you do see that other group, and can access it as an owner, you can either keep things this way (two separate logins under two separate email addresses) or you can merge this other account into your preferred account (address) by changing this other one's email address to match the preferred one. ? ?Shal? -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
dd,
?That would mean that you don't have the moderator privilege to Invite and add members.?
?The bad news is that likely means that you also do not have the privilege to Add, remove, and change moderator privileges?, and lacking that you won't be able to complete your part of Step 3. But just to be sure, go to the Moderators tab of the group's Manage Members page and click on any moderator's row (green crown), for example your own. If an Edit Membership box comes up you're in luck. You have the privilege to change privileges, and can give yourself the privilege to invite members. Otherwise, unless you can solicit the help of an owner of the group, or a moderator with the needed privileges, you are pretty much out of luck as far as the easy Yahoo Group transfer is concerned. Your option is to use Invite or Direct Add (premium groups only) to bring the Manage Members list of the Y!Group into the Groups.io group you created for Step 0. If the Y!Group has more than 1000 members there are ways around that, refer to on Yahoo Groups. Group not showing up in my groups list?
A friend created a new group and invited me to it. I accepted the invite and can get into the group. However, she then made me an owner, but I cannot access the admin settings in the group, even though I can get to the member landing page of it. When I logged into groups.io, all of my groups except this one show up. Can anyone give me a clue as to what is going on? Thanks.

Re: Best policy for group ownership change

This discussion seemed closest to what's troubling me at the moment.
I am owner on two main groups; I'll call them A and B.? I want to stop participating in A and gave it another Owner over a year ago.?
When I ask to Unsubscribe, after it asks me to Confirm, I get back a message saying ... "500 Because you are the only owner of this group, you cannot leave it." I'm NOT the only owner of Main-A but there are two subgroups I had created (neither of which flew) where I show as sole owner.? So, I'm thinking that I can't leave Main without cleaning up those two subgroups -- deleting them seems the cleanest.? There's Help on Deleting Groups.? Can SubGroups be deleted the same way, without impacting the Main group?? I want to be sure I'd be leaving Main-A intact and functioning under its other Owner and assume this would have no impact on Main-B where I am the sole Owner. Beth |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am not able to invite [email protected] because Yahoo

Re: SEARCH Key Words
Gene,
?Currently that search gives no results. Searching for "n scale" (excluding the quotes in the ?search box) turns up twenty-seven groups apparently related to model trains. Adding California to it, as in "n scale California" gives three. ?Shal? -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: SEARCH Key Words
Simply what I would like to happen is if someone searches for a word, say "n scale atlanta", they would find our group and all other like groups in Atlanta. On Thu, Jul 26, 2018 at 2:24 PM, Shal Farley <shals2nd@...> wrote:

Re: SEARCH Key Words
Gene,
?I may be missing what you mean by "keywords". I think the search is just a text search of the listed groups' Descriptions. I think it is deficient in some ways, it seems to do only whole-word matches (no partials - searching for "key" won't match "keyword"). It defaults to a match of all of the words in the text box, but you can use OR to make it find "keyword OR keywords"). I think it has the same basic features as the message search: Shal ? -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Non subscriber's messages moderated instead of rejected (bug?)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHmm¡ the problem seems to be gone. Now the system behaves like expected. I think what happened was I changed the settings and then immediately start sending messages, but it seems like it needs some time for the setting to ¡°take.¡± That might still be a bug, but it is not going to give me or my group any problem at this time. ? ? Re: Let med get out of here...
Michael, ?
? How do I delete my group DSH, so I can get out of here? Scroll down to the very bottom of that group's Settings page, then click the red Delete Group button on the lower right. ?Do this for each group you created (unless you've promoted someone else to own it).? Also, unsubscribe yourself from any other groups you may have joined (such as this one).
Click on your name on the upper right of any Groups.io page to drop-down the menu and select the Account item. Click the red Delete My Account button on the lower right. That should pretty much do it. If you've logged in to Groups.io with more than one email address then you'd need to do the above for each email address. Let med get out of here...
Hi
I was looking for an alternative to FB for a little group for four anglers. This "groups.io" doesn't seem to fit my needs for at group, and now I want to delete my account... which is not as easy as it is to get in here.... How do I delete my group DSH, so I can get out of here? Regards Michael |
Re: SEARCH Key Words
Gene, How do I make my group easy to find using a "keyword" type search? ?Use the keywords in the ?group's Description. For the search box in Groups.io's directory I don't think there's anything else to do. For web search engines like Google there are likely some best practices; such as using the keywords correctly in context in the text of the description. Google tends to down-rank keywords that are in lists of keywords or when HTML tricks have been used to hide the keywords from human view (small font, white-on-white, etc.). Dan, One more wrinkle to all of this.? I believe the ".IO" domain refers to "British Indian Ocean Territory".? ? ?That's correct. ? So, I assume that Mark, or at least this service, is not based in the USA ?That's incorrect. Mark resides in California, the servers are rented from , a company headquartered in Philidelphia. Groups.io also rents cloud storage from Amazon. The registrar does not restrict its customers to just British citizens/organizations. ?

One more wrinkle to all of this.? I believe the ".IO" domain refers to "British Indian Ocean Territory".? ?So, I assume that Mark, or at least this service, is not based in the USA and that Groups.IO is designed for global use (maybe targeted to the US, but global nonetheless.? So, one has to consider that the "rules" or established principles?in other countries may not align with those in the USA.? So, I guess what I'm saying is that what our Supreme Court has or will say is only one voice in a global community of many voices.
However, I do agree with the comments that it is really up to Mark.? If his decision goes against the principles of some group owners they can certainly choose to move to a different service.? ?For example, I have chosen not to do business with some companies whose political stance is contrary to mine and who have brought those views to their business practices.? But that's just me. Dan [mod note: Groups.io is U.S. based and is intended for global use.] |
Re: long term viability
As someone who has had to evaluate product technical architectures for potential acquisition, groups.io gets a high rating from me. (Disclaimer: in my job, I would never make this statement without spending weeks or months reading code, talking to engineers, reviewing error logs, etc. I have had no such access-- nor would I want it. That was work!)
In terms of the product itself, I have no fears. I have also been impressed with the development process-- the way fixes and upgrades are evaluated and rolled out, security issues are addressed, etc. All this is to the good. I must admit, I mutter a prayer for Mark Fletcher's health and safety on occasion. As far as I can see, groups.io is a one man operation, which explains a lot of its efficiency, attention to detail, and maybe some of its quirks. But single person products may not survive for long after that one person is run over by a truck or steps into an open manhole. For me, groups.io's quality far overrides this concern, but if I were doing an evaluation, I would have to point out this vulnerability. Best, Marv |
