I have followed all of the steps to transfer a group from Yahoo to Io, but have not had the invitation accepted yet. I sent to invitation back around the July 4 Holiday and again yesterday. I understand it can take 2-3 days, but this seems to be taking a bit longer than that. I'd just like to get a status update if possible.
Thank you Karen |
Re: graphics files
Dang, I guess I should have researched this before I joined. I¡¯m looking for a platform to substitute for Yahoo. I need to communicate with my music group but we also need an archive for images, and video and music files. I¡¯m guessing with the memory constraints, this is not the place! If you have a suitable suggestion, I¡¯d love to hear it. ?Yahoo and Google Groups both seem to be subpar.?
?
Thanks,

Member notices
Hi! So I am finally getting around to updating the group functions for our new groups.io group, and the member notices section is causing me a problem. With Yahoo groups, I had three files that went out to people when they first joined the group. I do not see that option with groups.io. Am I missing something, or is that ability gone? Thanks for any help! Patti |

Groups.io has its own Privacy Policy and Mark has taken / is taking specialised advice about what is necessary to keep Groups.io in compliance with the requirements of the GDPR, and AFAIK renewals every other year don't feature. I'm far from certain that it is in any way reasonable for your committee to more or less mandate that Groups.io finds a technical solution to a problem that it itself has generated, particularly so given that there is no clear legal requirement behind your request. I have found what I think is your group's website, and I notice that there is no sign of a "Privacy Policy" statement anywhere on it! What I did notice is that there are several photographs of people who I assume to be some of your members; did each and every one of them give you permission in writing to use their image(s) on your website, and how long does that permission remain valid? Feature request GDPR compliance
#membership
All,
Apologies if this has already been discussed or indeed this is the incorrect place for new feature requests. But I managed a groups io list where the committee have decided that in order to comply with GDRP every member must re-subscribe every 2 years. After the issues getting people to subscribe in the first place I can see this being a nightmare! My idea of a feature request is to have an extra field with a date that the acceptance with GDRP was declared for each member. Then have a function where the list sends a URL to each member and by clicking on this the field is updated. Then have a feature where members people with out of date acceptances can be emailed to remind them to do so. (Allow for specific text to be entered). Finally a feature to remove all members with out of date acceptances from the list. Apologies if this has already been raised or indeed it's the incorrect place. The list was created December 2016 so time left! Thanks, Chris |

The messages don't use any of the available storage.? The list of the items that do is at /static/pricing#what-is-counted-towards-the-storage-limits-for-my-group.? Attachments aren't copied.? Mark recently introduced a 100,000 message limit for transfers to free groups.? For more than than, you'd have to upgrade to a Premium group for a year, but could downgrade after that.

Limit to number of messages transferred from Yahoo Groups?
I have a Yahoo group going since 2007, probably about 30,000 messages, most of them without attachments.? Is it feasible for the groups.io folks to transfer these to a new groups.io group?? Any sense of how much storage space that would require, for example greater than one GB?

Re: Not getting calendar reminders
Shawn,
It is showing up in the calendar at the correct time, there is simplyI'm out of ideas. Note that I am having the exact same problem in 2 different groups. If you want to try for three you can set one up identically in my test group, maybe that way we can spot what's different. Re: graphics files
Claire,
Can I add .tif and .png files? Is there someplace that has guidelinesI'm not aware of any restrictions on the types of files that can be uploaded to the group's Photos or Files sections. In Photos .png files definitely work, but .tif is a very flexible format so while the file will likely upload, it may not be viewable without downloading. Re: bounced emails
Jim Higgins
Sandra,
The Spectrum tech: 1) Is lying thru his/her teeth or 2) Was too lazy to check to see if the problem really exists. or 3) Checked for a block ONLY on [email protected] rather than everything from Groups.io. The tech I called confirmed a system wide issue. The issue is with Spectrum, not with Groups.io. In short, Spectrum is being stupid. Jim H Received from Sandra Pickens-Gmail at 7/17/2018 11:10 PM UTC: So I just spent an hour on the phone with spectrum (triad.rr.com) who tells me they are not blocking <mailto:[email protected]>[email protected]. Re: bounced emails
Sandra,
?It is technically true that they are not blocking , they're delaying messages instead (greylisting, as mentioned to Jim).? Perhaps more pertinently, while the Sender (envelope-from) is Groups.io, the From address (header-from) of those messages are (for the most part) that of the posting member. That may be a factor, it has been known to cause some Microsoft-based services to outright reject messages from Groups.io (especially when the message is being returned to the member who posted it).
?You have to do what's in the best interests of your group, of course. I would recommend giving the situation a few more days to see if Mark can resolve it. I'd probably also be telling the affected members that perhaps they would enjoy using a more reliable email service. I know that may sound snarky or glib, but it is based in personal experience. Years ago I had this same problem (greylisting) with Verizon as my email service delaying messages from Yahoo Groups. Sometimes the delay would be long enough that Y!Groups would count the message as bounced and I'd never get it. As a mod for several groups I found this intolerable and switched email services. Ultimately I fired Verizon as my ISP as well, giving my business to a competitor with faster speeds, lower prices, and (at that time) no shenanigans with my inbound email. Re: bounced emails
Jim, They told me Groups.io needed to call them and request removal of the block/delay and I sent the number to do that to Mark via the "Support" email address. ?Good, I hope that helps. ? That business of delaying and creating a big backlog that's finally accepted doesn't make much sense to me, but that's what RR/Spectrum are doing. ?It is a (dubious in my opinion) anti-spam technique called greylisting. The theory is that spambots won't retry.? It may be fine when you're service is receiving scattershot spam from all over the place. But if you can identify a bulk sender, such as a mailing list service, it makes no sense to me to increase the workload on your servers and theirs, and decrease the satisfaction of your mutual customers, by continuing to defer their messages. Either block the service outright or pass it. I think it's a case of Google and Yahoogroups are "too big to block" and Groups.io isn't... yet. ?Indeed. I suppose Groups.io does not yet represent enough traffic into their service to be concerned about the extra load. And if it means a few hundred users decide to switch to one of their competitors, eh, no big deal. ? ?Shal? -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Re: bounced emails
Jim Higgins
I was probably the first to contact Groups.io support because a pending subscription notice wasn't received at home. It was several days old when I found it via the web.

Not sure where most of the problem is, but @sc.rr.com is affected and the RR/Spectrum tech I spoke with suggested it was system-wide. It would probably be good for folks to call RR/Spectrum (877) 566-4892 if for no other reason than to get their attention about doing something stupid. If "too much mail" is causing them a problem they need to upgrade their servers. They told me Groups.io needed to call them and request removal of the block/delay and I sent the number to do that to Mark via the "Support" email address. Meanwhile, we should be getting the mail in question, but it's probably going to come in in big batches because they're delaying the mail by telling Groups.io to try again later, then finally accepting the backlog later. That business of delaying and creating a big backlog that's finally accepted doesn't make much sense to me, but that's what RR/Spectrum are doing. I think it's a case of Google and Yahoogroups are "too big to block" and Groups.io isn't... yet.
