This error suggest that the mail server on the recipient's end is temporarily down. There is nothing you (or groups.io) can do to fix it.

bounced emails

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

We moved our group from yahoogroups to groups.io on July 4th.

?

I have now have about 45 emails that are bounced that were working fine on yahoo groups.?

The members can send a message to the group, but they do not receive messages from others or a copy of their own message when they post.

Most of the problem emails are @triad.rr.com?? the others seem to be @abusinessname

?

A few may be old unused emails and they have a second email in the group and I am going to try and remove those once I verify they no longer use that email

?

When I go to the members account and look at email delivery history this is what I see:

Re: moderator permissions

When you select Moderator for someone's role, on the list of permissions the box for Edit Archives will allow them to delete posts (among other things.)

moderator permissions

I am not seeing a way to allow moderators to delete messages. Can this be done?

You can edit the section marked Customized Message on the Invite page.? The boiler plate before/after the custom message is not editable.

I guess I can assume, this particular message is not editable by the owner of the group.

I can answer this one. I sent an invitation to another of my email addresses today. This is what I got:

Re: Are private replies present in archive?

Jed,

When someone sends a private reply to a message, is there any way to
make that reply visible on the message thread on the website (only for
the sender and receiver, of course)?
I don't believe so. I think "private" might be better described as "offlist" or "direct". Nor is it logged anywhere.

As a sender, if you want to keep a copy you need to use the BCC Me checkbox.

Are private replies present in archive?

Apologies if this has been addressed before, I searched but could not find an answer on this forum or the beta forum.? When someone sends a private reply to a message, is there any way to make that reply visible on the message thread on the website (only for the sender and receiver, of course)?? One of our moderators created a hashtag with the option "Reply to sender".? She has gotten email replies, but those replies are not visible on the website, neither when looking at the topic, nor the hashtag.? I've gone back and noticed the same thing for private replies to messages I've sent out, that they do not seem to be present anywhere in the archive.? Not a huge deal, but was just wondering if I missed anything. Thanks.

Re: How does chat work?

When I first started our group Chat was activated, but I turned it off so our members could get used to the new group interface first. Before I turned it off one member tried to use it, and I only found that out by accident several days later while exploring our group functions. Back in the day when I used to use Y chat I had a few favorite chat rooms, and I could see how many people were in them before joining in. These rooms appeared to be open 24 hours a day with some level of activity, mainly because there were so many people that liked these rooms. I haven't used chat in a couple decades now, and I think it might not be as popular as it used to be, because there are other, more interactive ways for people to get together. I think if I was going to use chat in our group now, I would first tell the group in advance through a post, that on a certain day, at a certain time of the day, a chat room would be open to talk about anything or something specific they might want to chat about. Chatting fell out of favor for me after a while, for the same reason I don't text with people today. I like to actually talk to people, not type to them in real time.

Re: yahoo

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Shal thanks. I will think if I want to use gmail. I don't care for it really. I have it set up on my yahoo account where my gmail goes there also. If it will stop the letters going into spam I might give it a try.
I have always liked my yahoo email the best. That could be changing.

Re: How does chat work?

I have asked 2 people only joined the chat and did not respond

It is perfectly possible that the 3rd responded to the chat notification rather than the chat itself I had not considered that

I am not looking for notifications. I just wanted to make sure it was possible to view the chat easily from the site and since I had not considered a response to the notification I thought something was wrong!

If you received an email from someone it's because that person posted an email. That person did not respond using the chat function.

I see that two additional members have joined but have no idea if they have responded as I didn't receive an email and cannot view the chat in its entirety. I see absolutely nothing to click on to open up the chat.
If you actually succeeded in creating a chat, it should be listed among the open chats in your group. It is also entirely possible to join a chat and not post to it...and people often do that, just to see what's going on.

Is the chat feature ready yet? If so would you consider putting a more obvious button so that one could view responses? Will all responses go to my email? Is email the only way to read the chat?
Chat activity does not generate any emails. One must log into groups.io to initiate one, post to it, and return to monitor it online periodically.?

You seem to be expecting to receive notifications like Facebook. Personally, I would not want groups.io to send me an email every time someone posts to the chat. But if that's the expected behavior, it is already available using normal group posts in conjunction with the "mute" and "follow" functions.

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

GMF is a user-to-user group, no one in GMF works for Groups.io. The official "suggestion box" is the beta group:

But I would suggest waiting a bit to see if anyone here replies with more knowledge of chat in Groups.io. The official Help page has nothing about Chat yet, so a member here has started some notes in our Wiki. I don't think it answers your questions, but it is a start.

How does chat work?

I have recently started a group at Groupsio
?
I have a writing group and thought it would be a good idea to start a chat so that members could get to know one other. Only nothing about the chat feature is intuitive and in my opinion it looks unfinished. Is it a viable feature at this time?

Re: Reply-To: in messages

David,

They do say you learn something new every day, so you have. :-)
Indeed. And I'm sharing the knowledge:

(click "Show message history" if the result table is initially hidden)

I have been using this for years in Yahoo, and it is extremely useful
for saving the admin from having to forward lots of replies to someone
else.

Remember this is an announcement group, as that may make a difference.
An interesting thing is that I didn't find this behavior in the Y!Groups equivalent of an Announcement Group - one with the Who can post? row in the Access Settings table set to Moderators Only.

But I did find that behavior, and more, in Discussion groups. Refer to the table in the cited message. Very surprising.

In the original Yahoo Groups, the sender's e-mail address was in the
From: header and there was no Reply-To: header.
From some old messages tucked away in my email folders I can confirm that for groups with their Reply To set to Sender. The groups in question allowed member posting.

I didn't find any examples of Reply-To being present (pre-DMARC) in those groups, but I don't think that's meaningful - yours isn't a use case that would be particularly likely in a Freecycle-style group (the only ones I was in that were set Reply To Sender).
