Re: Downloading the member list as backup #download #members

A group member asked about how to download the member list.
?
?
However it is quite easy.?
You must have access to Admin, Members.?
The download button is right beside the filter button.?
?
It downloads on my browser (Safari) as a CSV. Then I saved it in the spot I wanted it.
(This part likely depends on your operating system and browser.)?
?
On my MacAir with Safari, it saves as a .numbers document. Not sure what it does if you have .docx. Perhaps someone can let users know.

You may or may not be crazy. :)

If you're struggling to do this, you are not crazy.

It can be done indirectly, though; by downloading the file to your device and then uploading it back into the editor.
?
Another option is to send a link to the file, the downside of that being that the recipient will have to log in to retrieve it.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

If it's already stored on the group, just use a link to it.? You'd only need to attach one that was on your computer.

Just because it has photos there is no reason that a document couldn't be on the Wiki as essentially the same presentation/layout as the PDF.? I have done this in addition to linking to a PDF.
Granted it wouldn't be formatted to print as a booklet, if I "get" what you mean.

Downloading the member list as backup #download #members

Hi all,
?
While I don't anticipate that one of my groups will go pouf due to someone (me?) deleting it, I just decided I should download the member list. If that should happen, I can rebuild it. Safely saved on my computer as a spreadsheet!
?
Just a thought!

Re: Recovering a deleted group

"Can I recover the deleted group? "
?
Bruce answered your questions about whether you can recover it (which is a no) but here's my thought...
?
Maybe you could even use the same name but add a 1 or 2 to it and let the group know to add a one or 2 to the previous name.? If they are like me, the old name will stay in their head when they want to go to it but by adding the number, they'll know that if it didn't work with the old name, it will clue them in to add the 1 or 2.
?
Hope that helps.

Sincerely,

I have never heard of anyone who was able to create a new group under the same name as the one that's been deleted. So the operational word I would use here for the period of time that the name will be frozen is "indefinitely."
?
If you think you might want to resurrect a group, the standard advice here is to rename the current group to something unintelligible prior to deleting it. Since that was not done, you're kinda out of luck.
?
Can I recover the deleted group??
Even if you had a complete backup/export, this function is not available.

How long do I and the existing members (who are wondering what happened) have to wait to re-create at least a "what the heck" page to explain the situation?
Indefinitely.
?
You cannot create a page or anything else under the old group's URL. Your best bet is to create a brand new group under a similar name and manually notify everyone about it.
?
Sorry,
Bruce

I have some questions about a deleted group and hopefully someone can advise me.

Re: Bulk tagging (and deleting) message posts with certain hash tags

Thanks again, Frances. Yes, I deleted the hashtag with the alias I had inserted, and indeed all posts now bear the hashtag alias.? Logic would seem to suggest (?) to me, that deleting the hashtag that contains the alias, would effectively "cancel" the reassignment, but it doesn't.??
?
Thanks for the assistance! My issue fully solved.

Hopefully that makes sense... I'd like to delete it (I'm a housecleaning nut, sigh), but can leave it alone as I see that once you put in the alias, that one no longer appears on the dropdown list from which members can choose...

Just retested to make sure. Yes, I can create a new hashtag to use as alias (or use an existing hashtag as alias). Then after I have made the other hashtag the alias, I can delete the old hashtag. The messages are all there with the newly assigned hashtag.

Thanks Duane and Frances, the alias option worked nicely.

I know I can click on the hashtag selection and bring up all of the posts in question, but how do I go from there, e.g. select all, etc, and do the delete/replace?? Or, does that option simply not exist? Or, do I have to do it on a 1x1 basis (ugh)?

Do you wish to change all the messages with a particular tag to the same tag?
i.e. Do you wish to change all messages with #halifax to #NovaScotia
?
If you do, first, you do it in # Hashtags. Click on Edit for the particular hashtag you want to get rid of.
?
Then just create an alias for that hashtag. (If the hashtag you want for the alias doesn't exist yet, create it. e.g. in my sample, add #NovaScotia)
?
System message appears when you make an alias - Note: Topics tagged with #halifax will be transferred to #NovaScotia.
?
Any other hashtags on individual messages are retained. Just removes the one you are creating an alias for. Then delete the old hashtag in Hashtags.

I think I understand what you want to do.? If you want to replace the hashtag on all messages that have it, you can edit the existing hashtag to make it an alias (redirect) of the one you want to use.? In most cases, this is only used to consolidate variations of a hashtag, but it should work just as well for a bulk replacement in this case.

Re: Making a PDF File Publicly Available

Thanks for your responses. Linking to a file elsewhere should work.? It is too bad there isn't a way to set permissions individually for files in the files section.

As Duane suggests, you can make your wiki publicly available. But you'd have to put it somewhere else if it is a PDF. You can put images on a wiki, but not a PDF.

In theory, you could also put a link on your homepage but perhaps a bit messier. Again, a link to the document somewhere else.

Making a PDF File Publicly Available

I've consulted the Owner's Manual but haven't found how to do what I want to do or even if it is possible.?

I moderate a neighborhood association group (premium), and I'm trying to figure out how to make a PDF file publicly available.? Our Files section is only available to members, and individual files don't have options to override that unless I've missed something.? We have text items that are publicly available as sticky wikin pages, but the PDF file I want to make available to anyone is formatted for printing as a booklet and has photos as well as text, so simply copying it into a text file for the Wiki won't work. Is there a way to make a PDF file available to the general public?? If so, how can I do it?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
