Completely customized invitation email
I apologize because I'm not doing any research before writing this.
I created a group for family communication among members of my extended family a few years ago, and after trying to customize the invitation letter (as I recall, it is a "form letter" which had / has a place to insert some customized text. I had trouble wording that added text to be unconfusing to (often non-computer literate) members of my family, so gave up, and tried to create a completely customized invitation letter. That didn't work -- iirc, if someone clicked on what I intended to be the link for them to sign up, they signed up in my name, which made a confusing mess. Are there instructions anywhere on how to create a completely customized invitation letter along with a link that will properly subscribe them in their own name and email address? (I am subscribed to this list, but often don't read it for months at a time -- I'll watch it for the next week or so to see any replies, but if you reply after that time it would be helpful if you cc me so it shows up in inbox (and not filtered and sent to my groups.io folder). Thanks! |

Probably not an easy change because of the way the site works.? It uses the editor that's needed based on the content being edited.?Or maybe based on one's specific general setting? I must confess that I am still puzzled. If I write a new notice without any formatting, in plain text, when I open the notice again the formatting bar is there. I don't understand how I could have written those two notices stuck in plain text. Unless at some point I changed a general setting on GIO and that affected all following messages. Marina |

Re: Problem receiving io group mail
One of my groups also has a member being bounced by iinet.net.au. Their support has not been responsive. He is fairly tech savvy and tells me iinet has gone through several acquisitions. Shades of Y!? I've suggested switching providers. I think he is doing so.

Re: Problem receiving io group mail
Thanks for your reply Bruce.. I couldn't see how I could get headers either.
I finally rang them today (emails got me nowhere) and after going round and round for an hour trying to explain what the problem was, the "troubleshooter" typed up a report and said it had been "elevated" to another dept. His accent was so hard to understand, so I don't know just WHERE it is going. If I click on the link to view the "tasks" currently being dealt with, I get an error message. I'll probably have to ask for a supervisor who doesn't have an accent... lol. I'll wait another 24 hours and see what happens.. it is 12 days now since the problem started. Win |
Re: Formatting toolbar not showing in some member notices

Thank you, Duane, I followed your advice and wrote the two notices from scratch.
I think it would be easier to have the formatting bar always displayed. That would allow to format a plain text notice, should the need arise, without having to delete it and write it again. Best, Marina |
