Locked out of groups.io

I am normally subscribed to groups.io with my email address brianstokes@....

When I send a message to groups.io, I get an error message from my iinet mailserver:

-------- Forwarded Message --------
Subject: Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
Date: 30 Jan 2022 06:44:59 +0800
From: Mail Delivery System <MAILER-DAEMON@...>
To: brianstokes@...

The following message to <[email protected]> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 500-'Your account is bouncing. Please visit the web site to unbounce your account., 500 Your account is bouncing. Please visit the web site to unbounce your account.'

I have tried to log into groups.io but my web browser has not stored a password. I tried to use the password reset facility but the groups.io site never sends a reset email.?

I have sent numerous messages to [email protected]?and never get a response.?

I am presently locked out of groups.io and the mailing lists I subscribe to. I had to create a new account to post this message.

Help!

Thanks

Brian

Send a message to the +owner address of a group you're subscribed to (not this address, but the previous one). Ask them to send you a "bounce probe."

Click the link in the resulting probe email and that should unbounce your account.

/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/additional-information/standard-group-email-addresses?

Thanks much, Bruce. Will do.?

Your email service provider is known to bounce messages from Groups.io, so you'll likely go back into bouncing status.? For more info, see /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/missing_emails/88719063

They can be browsed online or downloaded as PDF files.

Thanks, Duane. I am in contact with them now trying to get them to fix their system.

I am working with iiNet to get the bounce problem fixed, but I also need to re-establish access from my usual email address brianstokes@....?

My web browser did not save a password for this account so I need a password reset. I have tried to use the resent facility but groups.io is not sending a reset message, probably because of the email block. When I send an email to my list [email protected],?I get this error message:??

Brian -- I anticipated that this might be a problem. Duane, too.

Just to be clear, "email me a link" is just another way to log in. There is no password reset facility.

How do I go about getting a password reset if the system won't send a password reset message?
Have you tried doing a social media login with Facebook or Google???/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/logging-in-to-your-account?

Assuming you do eventually get logged in, you might want to set all your subscriptions to "no email."?

/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/controlling-your-email-subscription-preferences?

Although that will require you to subsequently read group messages on the web, at least you can continue to post via email, and your account won't go into bouncing anymore.

For what it's worth, others using your mail provider are experiencing similar problems. Misery loves company, I guess.

Bruce

The system doesn't email a link to me.?

No, mainly because I don't have Facebook or Google accounts.

That would be a bit of a wrench in the gears.

I'm going to keep getting up iiNet's noses until they get the thing fixed.?

iiNet are getting a fair bit of misery from me at the moment. I've been a customer for 10 years, so when I howl, they do tend to listen.?

Thanks again

I feel you, Brian. Protecting customers from spam is one thing, but failing to deliver legitimate messages is completely unacceptable.

If they would whitelist the Groups.io mail servers (currently 66.175.222.108 and 66.175.222.12), everything would be 'fixed'.? There's no relaying allowed, so mail would only be from the site.? That's not saying there's not spam posted in some groups, but it isn't common.

Now, the magic question is how do I get a password reset for brianstokes@...?

I can't get a reply from [email protected]?and the system won't send a login link/password reset.

Brian -- Your email address is your account identifier. You need to find some way to log in under that email address. At that point you can change the password.

/helpcenter/membersmanual/1/understanding-groups-io-accounts/setting-account-preferences-and-viewing-account-information?

Please note that changing your password won't keep your account from going back into Bouncing status as soon as groups.io experiences difficulty emailing you again.

If you cannot be reached at that address, then that account is inactive, as far as groups.io is concerned. Many people use "email me a link" to login every time and never bother to set a password at all.?

FWIW, I have reported the problem to the beta group ( ?).

Bruce
