If I click the link at the bottom of an email and follow a topic, is there a way to unfollow?

Susan Rubin raised a good point.? ?How can we send out notices to those with gmail addresses if they are not aware?

Groups do not bounce. Accounts do.

As I said the only one we all seem to have in common is GMF.
You have GMail in common. Only people using GMail have been experiencing this problem; and only some of them.

I got the same notice but more than 24 hours after the Google outage.

I am not sure Google is clear yet either.

Janet -- Not sure what you mean by "administrator," but this suggests to me that you really are subscribed to all of them, but have email delivery turned off. Log in, and go to /groups?as I mentioned earlier. If these same groups are all listed there, there was no error in the bounce message you forwarded.

Glad to hear that!

Some of them are totally inactive.
That doesn't really matter. One bounce in any group could throw you into Bouncing status...if it was a "hard bounce." Typically, any 500-level bounce is treated as "hard."

More details on this than you probably ever wanted to know can be found at?/helpcenter/ownersmanual/1/additional-information/groups-io-bounce-handling?

Re: Bouncing

Janet,

The account we appear to have in common is this one - GMF.
Just to save confusion on terminology, note that GMF is not an account, it is a group.

You have an account, tied to your email address, and I have an account, tied to mine. Our two accounts have one group subscription in common: GMF.

So in the discussion where we've been speaking of accounts that are bouncing, we mean the member's email address - the two have a one-to-one correspondence. Each email address is the login for exactly one account, and each account has exactly one address for group subscriptions.*

On the other hand, a group may have any number of subscribers, and an account may subscribe to any number of groups.

Shal
*(an Account can have a second, "Alias" address, but that address cannot be subscribed to any groups).

You should no longer need to.

Gmail reports it has fixed its problem, and Mark went through and unbounced all the Gmail addresses.

Janet -- Bouncing is an account status, not a subscription status. And you may be subscribed to some groups without realizing it. For example, for awhile every new account was automatically subscribed to the Updates group, but no emails were sent to them.?I don't know if this is still true.?

You can see your total list of groups you're subscribed to at?/groups?

So I used the link and cleared up the bouncing according to them. Now I just got another message - same thing, same list - and was told I am bouncing all those and to use the link to clear it.
Clearing the bouncing status at groups.io will not help if GMail still isn't accepting messages. If anyone posts another message to a group you're subscribed to, groups.io will get the same error back from GMail, and voila -- you're bouncing all over again.

Again, the same. In between I did not use any of those accounts for anything.
Your GMail account was not accepting group messages. Whether you did or didn't do something with your groups.io account has no effect on that.

This GMail problem was finally fixed about an hour ago ().

Groups is screwed up or getting hacked.
Such statements without clear evidence serve only to spread unwarranted fear and are generally unproductive. If you could share what you've actually been sent with the rest of the group (screenshots, or maybe a forward of your bounce notice), perhaps we can help you with further troubleshooting.
