Re: wordpress and groups.io

Mark -- For completeness, I should also mention you can do the same member sync function by uploading a flat-text file containing all the email addresses and [optionally] their Display Names, by using the "File Sync" button at the top of the same page (Admin>Members). Any address that appears in the file will be added, and any current subscriber not found in the file will be removed...with no notification.

The entries must be in the same format that's used for uploading members for the Invite or Direct Add function (plain text, each address on its own line). A CSV file or an Excel spreadsheet will not work.

This feature is only available to Premium/Enterprise groups.

Bruce

Re: Yahoo Group Suddenly Comes To Life

Hi peeps,

With 2 yahoo groups that I own, that we had moved to groups.io, I had to make about 10 attempts, over a period of several months, in order to change the settings -- I was starting to think it wouldn't be possible to do at all --

-- changed to "new member needs approval", so if someone tries to join the yahoo group, we say no, join the groups.io group
-- put at the head of the group description, "hey we've moved to groups.io, here's the link"

We still get occasional attempts to join --
in the past several weeks we've gotten a handful of spam attempts --
and very odd:? we'll get an email from yahoo, "there is a pending member", but you go look and there is no pending person wanting to join.

?

...
Lo| I've never heard of a member being
| unsubscribed for marking a message
| from another member as spam???

So, you never read messages posted at
GMF group, because it's a very common
occurence.

As it was said, there's no such thing
as "message from another member", all
messages are from Groups.io on behalf
of a member. So, some email providers
can decide these messages are spam.
The problem is with the Mail Service.

The best thing the member should do is
change to another email provider and
rejoin your group.

If you go to Admin>Members and click on the "Service Sync" button at the top of the page you can sync your group membership with that of an external service. Unfortunately, the only one currently supported is Slack.
?
Hope this helps,

You could have someone that does programming take a look at the GIO API to see if they could come up with something to connect to your program, /api? If you have a paid group, it could even Direct Add them, so minimize required emails.

You can post a #suggestion on the .? Similar suggestions have been made in the past though.

Any of those things can already be included in the group description and would be found using the search box on the publicly listed groups directory page.? A search for California found 409 groups, even Massachusetts found 90 listed.? I see no reason to duplicate the functionality.

Good evening,

Can anyone? help we are using paid membership pro

When we was using mailman we used a plugin witch when a member sign up to our organisation they automatically was signed up to our announce mailing list

Is there any way we could do this with groups.io

I know the member would have to reply to the email but ?they have to do that anyway

Just to make the system ??automated

Mark.

?

?

????????????????????????????????????????????

?

How about adding more search functionality like Zip Code? City?

How about making groups locally discoverable?

I am not sure what data groups.io communities could be asked to share which would make it possible to search and find them. A zip code? A city name??Folks could then visit groups.io and search by zip code and see who in the city or neighborhood had a group they could ask to join or simply join. ?Right new seekers can search by Most Popular, Most?Active, Newest and By Name.

Thoughts??Comments? What do others think?
How can this idea be proposed to the groups.io team of designers and developers?

Ta ta for now

Thank you, Chris -- I'm so used to starting any sort of edit with a "right click"
that I totally whiffed on simply left-clicking the thumbs to access editing controls.
Got it now!

As Bruce said this is a common problem.

A small semantic point; no message is "from another member". All messages are from Groups.io on behalf of a member. As a result Groups.io sends out a phenomenal number of emails and some Mail Service Providers can suddenly decide to get twitchy about it.

Fortunately you are mistaken, at least partly. Go to the photo in question (in whatever album* it is in) and click on the thumbnail. Owners (and Moderators with the relevant permission) and the photo's originator can edit the name and add a description. Where appropriate the ownership of he photo can also be reassigned.

* If the photo was sent as an attachment and is thus in the Emailed Photos album then the details cannot be edited.

Retitling photos

Pardon another stupid question, but they're the only kind I ask, and I expect the answer is simple.
Is there no way to retitle a photo that's already been uploaded to a group's Photos section?
It's easy enough to do with Files, but I think I'm correct in concluding that it can't be done with photos, eh?

This is very common. See?/helpcenter/faq/1/group-member-faq/q-i-got-a-message-that-i?and?

Is there a way to change this on my group settings? (I've xxx'd out the member's name and the message name)
No.

This is to notify you that xxxxx@... has been unsubscribed from your group [email protected] because message? xxxxxx?was marked as spam. Note that this may have been done by their email service provider, not by the individual member personally. They've been given a link that lets them quickly resubscribe, in case this was an error.

There have been some changes to Wiki page links recently but I've not heard of any issues following that.? If you go to Admin > Settings and then scroll to the bottom and look at the Wiki controls you will see the Sticky Wiki Page option. From there you can select which Wiki page link you want at the top of your messages page or select (none) if you don't want anything there. Don't forget to use the blue Update Group button to save any changes you make.

There's no option to add members back in from the Past Members list.? The only option for each member is to click the History link which shows all actions for that member from the Activity Log.

If/when it happens again, check the Past Members list to see if you can add them back from there.? That list is only on Premium or Enterprise groups, but you must have one of those since you were able to Direct Add him.
