YG outage

Edited

Mark posted an update to the problems at YG a few minutes ago.? He also mentioned that he'll refund anyone that can't transfer.?

Hi All,
?
The Yahoo Groups outage continues, preventing us from exporting group messages. For now, I have disabled the ability to create new transfer requests, and have posted a note on the Yahoo Group transfer page telling people to not upgrade their group to Premium until the outage is over.
?
I don't want people upgrading their groups and then us not being able to do the transfer.

Thanks,

Re: Merge Groups

?? You only make the export and import functions available to group admins, so the data could move only under the authority of the forum owners.

I don't see that as a security issue.... we already have export, which is the "more dangerous" function reading your response.

Adding information to a forum is the right of anyone in the forum actually, so I honestly do not follow your logic.

Even just a way to "forward" a message or topic to another group would help... In my case, I started a new group here because it was questionable if we could move the yahoo group. Then the Yahoo group got together, made me the owner, and I migrated the Yahoo group. I now want to merge the smaller, newer group to the recently migrated group.

Re: Catch-22: Can't Transfer Yahoo Group

One of the yahoogroups on which I used to be able to issue invitations no longer allows me to do so for the past couple of weeks.? And another yahoo group used to allow me to appoint other moderators, but I can't now.? As of now, that means the transfers of both those groups are dead in the water due to absentee owners.? I keep trying on yahoo, figuring if it glitched one way, perhaps it will glitch back the other way.? One did the other day, allowing me to invite and change groups.io to moderator, but within five minutes it reverted back, apparently before the changes could take place.? Frustrating.

Thanks for the feedback

For the record, our Links did transfer to the Database area.? We are just trying to determine if we have other options for relocation to a different area, what they might be, which is best and/or customization of the default categories.? All feedback is appreciated.

You might want to double-check that the image is visible to a member who receives the notification or reminder by email, and is not logged in to Groups.io (or is not using a web-based email interface).

I'm thinking that such an URL might be unavailable if one isn't logged in, because the Photos section is normally a members-only function. But I don't know if Groups.io enforces that rule at the level of the image URLs, or only on the page URLs.

Gilbert/Su -- The URLs of photos in albums are also not static, changing as photos are added to or deleted from the album.

Bottom line is that you really need to host the image somewhere else if you want to ensure the desired behavior. Again, see /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/31532132#16547
Ah yes, I now see the problem with the photos not being available to the mail client. And the lack of a stable URL makes it even worse.

I was able to insert an image into a wiki page, made the wiki publicly-viewable, and then the url became something like: /g/mygroup/wikiimage/nnnn

That did work. The image was viewable in my mail program. I don¡¯t know if the wikiimage is a static URL or not, but at this point you¡¯re right, it¡¯s just too convoluted and dicey to attempt this and it's better to simply host the image elsewhere.

Re: Customization Options? #customize #links

Ann, your links should have transferred into Databases. If database has not been activated in Settings, do so and you will see them, I believe.

For the foreseeable future, yes.

Finally what is the fee structure at this time for paid groups?
An up-front charge, and/or a yearly charge?
Premium Yearly is only mandatory for those who decide to use the Easy Group Transfer process to bring over their Yahoo Group.?For others, see?/static/pricing.?All payments are in advance...if you want the features, you pay up-front.

Re: Yahoo Transfer #transfer

Andrew,

Try to send the invite from Yahoo using as many different browsers as
possible. Also flush your cache to increase the chances of it working and
keep on trying. It seems the many issues inside Yahoo is making this
awkward. But just keep trying.

Re: Digest Header Size #featurerequest

If I understand what you're describing correctly, I think it may be the same problem with the fixed width of the digest that I brought up a few days ago?

/g/GroupManagersForum/message/23886

I contacted Mark about it, and so did someone else on the thread, but so far I've not gotten any response.

The Yahoo invitation function has been balky for a long time now. I assume you are getting the standard "an error occurred while loading the content?" If so, that's a common error ever since the NEO "downgrade."

If you're getting some other error, come back and tell us what it is.

Unfortunately, there is no way for groups.io to "break into" your group and steal the content itself, so we have to make this invitation thing work. Recommendations on what to do for "error loading content" can be found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19411. Others have recently reported that they had more luck using a PC instead of a Mac, or trying another browser.

Hopefully one of those things will help you to get an invitation sent. Once it goes through, your "pink box" status will change to "We have received your invitation and will accept it soon." Go back and check that to be sure.

Once you get the transfer agent invited and [eventually] accepted, you will also have to promote it to a Moderator. If you don't have the necessary privileges to do that your transfer will stall at that point. You might want to promote someone else in your group to Moderator now to ensure you can do it and to get in some practice. Instructions for this can be found at?.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: Yahoo Transfer #transfer

Thanks Bruce.

Yes, we are on the Premium Plan.

When I checked the link, the pink box indicated re-inviting the [email protected] to the group;

Make sure you have sent an invite to your group for the user [email protected]. We will send you an email once we've received and accepted an invite. If this message hasn't been updated within 6 hours of you sending your invite, please send another one. This notice will be updated when we have received your invite.

Charlie -- That's correct...there is no straightforward way to insert attachments or images to messages already in the message archive. The best you can do reliably is hosting the missing object in your files area and insert its URL.

Please understand that those messages have already gone out as emails, so if subscribers really need access to a missing photo or document it's best to post a new message anyway. Your situation is unusual in that the photo was deleted by accident, by the logic behind disabling such a feature remains.?

I would love to see this feature added to the calendar also. It is a common event occurrence and would be very helpful.?

There is no insert photo button, but you can insert one manually.? You need a raw image file if you want it stored in the message.? Copy/paste it into the message.? You should be able to tell if it will work by using the Preview button.? I'm not sure if a member could do this, though they should be able to.

Has anyone been able to add photos to an album via the API? #api

Eric di Domenico

I've been trying to import some photos into a group and I keep getting a permissions error when trying to upload the actual photos.

Creating and deleting albums works perfectly.

Has anyone managed to upload pictures using the API?
